It is really great to see a Canadian Aircraft being so well marketed in the World. Thank you Viking. :)
Since they brought back the Otter, I have been enthusiastically watching Viking's progress as a true leader in quality and innovation. Well done!
What the otter is back?
My Father helped in the design of the original "Water bomber" Canadair CL-215 in the late 1960's. He always like to talk about his work on it.
You probably work with Ray Hebert , my uncle.
I AM AN ITALIAN FOREST DOCTOR, FIGHT AGAINST YEARS OF FORESTRY FIRE AND I HAVE TO SAY THAT WITHOUT THIS AIRCRAFT, MANY EVENTS WOULD HAVE CAUSED CATASTROPHIC CONSEQUENCES. GREETINGS FROM SARDINIA.
Esatto anche in Liguria ci salva tutte le estati!
In questo video si vede spesso il Canadair con la striscia tricolore
@Fernando Zayden I'd like to try that; what's your girlfriend's name?
Flew a CL 215 out of Olbia in 1998.
But this 515 is not the CL 215, you are picking boards for flowers.
In reality, everyone would need a 515.
But with 4 motors and not with 2 as we see in the video.
This aircraft saves our lifes in Greece, and all over the world.Thank you Vikingair!!!!!!!
I was a structures engineer who worked on the original Canadair CL215 in 1967. My job was to stress the fuselage body frames to withstand the stresses caused during water pick ups and landing. Canadair had a group of engineers working in a large room on the ground floor where aircraft were built. The design job was very interesting and enjoyable and the prototype was being built just next to our room . No sooner would a design drawing be signed ,in my case I signed for stress ,and the builders immediately took the drawing and went on to make the prototype. At my age of 94 I’m delighted to see the CL215 so wonderfully developed to the 515.😊
Saw the 415 in up-close action down in Corsica, many a time. Sometimes, they came so close to the road that her engine propwash actually shook my car! They were skimming the forest fire at no more than maybe 10-15 meters of altitude, on the right side of the road which was engulfed in flames and smoke. That was a sight to see, and I can't be thankful enough for the bravery of our fire fighters and the ruggedness of the Canadair.
If a machine deserves to be honored as a Hero, that's a Canadair!
Cool Aeroplane, I worked on the "Ducks" (CL-215 with Radial Engines) back in the early 90's when Conair had a base in Edmonton, Alberta. Highly underrated!
The only bomber designed to save lives.
Be-200 amd shinmaywa Us-2: •_•
Sometimes, wars kill and sometimes, they're saving lives.
Everyone say it, Canadian are nice 😂
the JUMBO 747 is incredible!!
Absolutely every town around the world should have at least a few of these available to help wherever needed.
My uncle Bob Balneaves and his son, Ronnie both worked in Canadair in fuselage construction including the CL 215 STOL water bomber fleet....
Those that down vote must be Americans. I love every video I think series. These planes are the one Ambassadeur world wide for this Canadian designed and made in 🇨🇦
I really like that the capacity to operate at night. Thus increasing productivity. Synthetic vision should increase both safety and productivity.
And I like the new marketing name of "Canadair 515" as the CL415 is known as the Canadair in Europe. (And as the "Superscooper" in the US)
Yep, fire doesn't sleep. A very welcome advancement for sure.
Love the update to a truly great aircraft!! Keep up the good work!!
Adapting these to coast guard aircraft during the off season is a great idea. Using them as maritime patrol craft, feels like the Catalina is coming back.
If you google the price of this aircraft, it's currently listed as 37 million dollars and it hauls 1600 gallons. The current price of the Air Tractor Fire Boss is 3 million dollars, ready to go and they haul 800 gallons each. The latest research by the US forest service does in fact say that a flying boat is the most efficient machine in regards to water delivered per hour on a fire, but one Canadair 515 cannot out work 4 or 5 Fire Bosses, also 5 Air Tractors would be less expensive to acquire than one 515 with lots of money left over for fuel and parts
You forgot an important factor: precision an accuracy.
@@alexandrevaliquette1941 As a commercial pilot, I’m pretty sure there wouldn’t be much difference in precision drops between the two aircraft types, in fact the Fire Boss can probably operate from smaller bodies of water putting it closer to the fires
@@Agwings1960 I did not know about the Fire Boss (Air Tractor). Tech spec are impressive. I guess it all depend of your specific situation and all theses different models/style can make sense.
I'm just an internet troll with very limited knowledge of the aviation world.
We had four Conair air tractors practicing doing scoops out of the lake we live on, then lining up on my farm for a simulated drop. Warm and fuzzy, that's how it made me feel.
It takes some large brass balls to drop into the canyons and put water on target. RESPECT!
I have been on scene. Where this aircraft had been deployed. I will say. The pilots need to be insane. Dropping from the edge of a mountain scooping water and as soon taking off while turning on the wing. Literally emergency turn. 90degree Horizon on the roof. And my god. What a pleasant sound and sight.
So true. They are carbon fiber now!!!
firefight pilots have the most deadly ratio of aerial activities.
I had the great luck to visit once the 415 line in Dorval.. impressive!. Canada is the best of the best for utility aiplanes. Great chance That Viking took away the plans and tools to continue the adventure. My finger tells me this summer that it might be the idea of the century ..for those who will be soon ordering new fire fighters aircarfts.. Bravo Ving Bravo Canada..
Muy bueno este video y excito en los planes del CL-515 Saludos desde Chile
Nice to see that Viking has taken the bomber to the next level
Brilliant work.
This looks like an ideal fit for Aussie particularly with the multi role (SAR, Maritime security) added to the mix, our lack of freshwater lake access is a downside but being an island surrounded by water may offset that a bit. We should have a fleet of these managed by the federal govt but leased back to the states on an as needs basis......🤷🏼♂️
Yes..very suitble for forst fire burning and more importn maritime cosguard... So sad malaysia buy this plne..but early gnration..
@@Semogahappy8541 they bought 2 515 to replace the older ones, but also the older ones were the coast guard version, the only country to do so.
There is a company in Italy who operate 5 units plus the 17 owned by the Italian government.
Their own 5 are leased to countrys, provided with crew.
As a Greek, I know all too well the devastation of forest fires. We may be a small country but we have a large fleet of Canadairs that are also used to help other countries. When they come to fight the fire I know the angels have arrived.
We have 12 cl215 and 7 cl415
Thank you Canadair.💙
It,s amazing how many Canadire planes Greese operates for such a small country.
Many other countries in the EU have large amount of these planes too.
The United States has only 4.
If only there was a fleet of these helping in Australia.
Yes. I've been pushing this to my friend in the antipodes. Considering that Viking is already servicing all the DHC rigs in Oz, and Indonesia already has a set of the bombers, I'd think it would be the next logical step for Oz, after the spate of brush fires in the recent past. Invest now....Talk to a Canadian friend ASAP.
These planes are amazing. Design specifically for the fire fighting mission in the 6Os. They just keep improving and making them better.
They are already a legend along with the Beaver and the Otter
I don't understand how countries aren't buying this up, I see around the world and they all single drop and have to land to get more water...this plane is the most perfect for It's role ever...
A lot of people don't know that Leland Snow originally designed the AT802 as a water bomber. He adapted it for crop dusting, as farmers wanted the larger version. So the 802 is another specifically designed water bomber. Yes it was not originally a scooper. Also the one gentleman in the video said the 415 was the benchmark for 50 years @3:00. The 415 didn't enter production until 2003. That math doesn't work is you ask me.
Many countries need aircraft like these.
Awesome video. I'll take a dozen of them
In France, everyone knows the word Canadair. 😎
En France, tout le monde connaît le mot Canadair. 😎
Nice to see a push on this aircraft. I was associated with the 215, 215T, and 415 programs for over 25 years and it struggled for every bit of success it earned. It should have done better.
The 415 is greatly appreciated in Croatia , saved many property's and probably lives . It's a great plane
Why? It's the best..
Having watched Viking Aircraft grow into more and more marques of the famous DH series, I cannot BUT believe that the Company could well be soon able to redevelop BOTH the Buffalo and Caribou airframes that have excelled for decades in their multi-purpose tactical support, survelliance and SAR roles. And PERHAPS a new Beaver??
Your wishes are coming true Robbie... New build DHC-5 Buffalo NG is in the works.🍁🍻
@@rpm1796 As is an all electric Beaver...
How about a Buffalo with PWC 150's 5000hp on each wing.
@allangibson2408 check out Harbour Air.
I thing USA should buy alot of CL-415 to firefight the huge fires of summer .Now they use only super takers and alot of hellicopters,,the CL-415 could do a great job.
The U.S. can only buy American 🙄
good news: 7 CL-515 has ordered to indonesia
When people ask me the difference between Canada and the US... i just say the bombers we build drop water....
Canada did fight in WW2, a matter of pride to most.
Don't get snippy about the US military; they've protected you for 75 years.
But they can also drop retardant, they have the ability to mix it onboard after scooping water.
This family of aircrafts has saved many greek forests. I HOPE THAT EU MAKES A BULK ORDER SO THAT 515 PRODUCTION CAN BE STARTED.
We hope too!
This is awesome. Go Get em!
As A Canadian I am so proud of this Aircraft, but where is the scaled up 4 engine 10 000 hp Canadair 1515 that doesn't lose the turn around time or maneuverability but delivers 3x(or more) the amount of water. Retaining the high power to weight ratio is an absolute.
Perhaps an updated version of the Dash 7??
@@robertdonnelly434 Actually i think they have that. But the 415 is a seaplane that loads from water local to the fire, which gives it a faster turn around. A dash would have to find the nearest airport with facilities and tanker trucks set up. The beauty of the 415 is that you just need a lake or or .... the ocean.
Actually you need to stay on the smaller side. There have been bigger and faster aircraft converted but they all run into the same problem: you need to go low and slow to do an effective drop. Just try that in a 747 conversion! You go first!
@@stancunningham3711 Martin Mars?
@@stancunningham3711 um hate to break it to you but th-cam.com/video/qXYYi2R94Es/w-d-xo.html
It is a rugged and versatile airplane, to be sure. I believe I recall seeing, from the ‘215 days, that it can even be configured as 27 passenger regional turboprop. I would imagine that, perhaps, the ‘515 could be configured for this role making it a STOL amphibian. Such a version would be interesting to me.
An incredible aircraft with wide versatility 😃👌👌👏👏👏👏❤️
Water Bombing is still the most effective and cheapest way to fight forest fighting.Amphibians and Helicopters are the best for this Beriev has a Jet Amphibian Water Bomber AlsoJapan has one also. The USA needs to buy lots of these since they quit building them.
Impresionante!!!! Y en Argentina?
An Awesome well equipped aircraft.
Its a bit unrelated but, a long time ago, I got the lego 4209 and I always called it a canadair
Comparing scoopers with land based air tankers is just bad business. It’s like comparing a Shovel with a Polaski. They are both used to fight fire but with completely different tactics and strategies. Using scoopers and land based tankers together, one to slow spread and reduce intensity and the other to provide long term containment is really where they show there true firefighting worth. The 414, 515 would also be amazing at delivering para-cargo to wildfires and other natural disasters. It would be a fantastic jump ship for smoke jumpers or SAR Techs.
No the land based super tankers and this do the exact same job they spray the perimeter to keep the fire from spreading while people on the ground dig fire lines to contain it permanently as well as providing quick response in case a fire jumps a line you can’t permanently contain a forest fire by dropping retardant it doesn’t matter what aircraft it dropping it because the retardant doesn’t last long enough the only way to “put out” a forest fire is to remove the fuel from the surrounding area so the fire can’t spread and let it burn itself out or in extreme cases wait for winter rain
@@jameson1239 you have no idea, your response is so far off the mark it’s not worth talking about.
One of my nephew's is a fire boss in Saskatchewan 👍🔥
In Croatia, we made up a new word for water bombers. When a croat say kanader, well, you know what it means
Thanks to Canada for those airplane.
Malaysia's MMEA have two of these firefighting aerial aircrafts in South East Asia region.
The only country in the region with such aerial firefighting capability.
In Greece, Canadair MEANS water bomber
A Nice plane.
large cargo door should be standard for sea rescue. sell them to coast guard to serve a dual role. also demonstrate how effective having 20 aircraft on a large fire . not just 6. quickly drown the fire and save lives and property then prepare for the next one. thanks for listening.
What i want to know is how you managed to change the climate so you could sell more aircraft, haha?
It is a brilliant aircraft and cudos to the crews who fly them taking themselves into dangerous situations every other pilot is told to stay away from.
The fact that these aircraft can fly in close proximity to one another is a testament to their design and the skill of the pilots.
If you want to see what the airplane cab do look the Greek Canadairs which operate now on the fires!
Q: For the surveillance aircraft mode, why not the opening bubble side windows like the PBY?
Our country needs them very urgently. 😥🤲🏼
We need the government to be purchasing dozens of these, not fighter jets.
Soon 3 new for Morocco in 2022 ??.
Their helicopter comparison is out to lunch... any water source that the 415 can fill out of a type 1 can fill at a rate 2x as fast especially one so close as to allow up to 150 drops per day with the skimmer! That doesn't take into consideration that a bucket ship can generally find water much closer... A CH-47 will have almost 3x the capacity... I don't understand the "limited Autonomy" of the helicopter? thats backwards! Don't get me wrong the 415 is a great ship... but don't forget its just another tool in the kit...
Depends on the area if it's flat , or hilly the plane has an advantage , in Croatia they can refill in minutes when fighting fires near the sea . In mountain areas the heli would be my go to because of the smaller lakes etc . Both are just tools in the bucket
Excelente avión.
There's a huge market out there for Viking products. Bombardier screwed up big time.
Everything The Bomber touches, dies.
That is since the bombardier family left
@@mesh1248 The family still owns the recreational vehicles side, snowmobiles, motorcycles, personal watercraft, all that stuff. Planes and trains were a separate companies.
@@Chuck59ish yup and thats why i own some of those products 👍
7 for Indonesia :)
I dont see why some adaptations couldn't be made for a super tanker that would allow them the refuel with water in air. If they can do it with fuel there has to be a way to modify a tanker to re arm the larger water bombers.
Can Canadair 515 use a Garmin multi-function display?
the canadair did well here in Morocco.
Damn that made me hot... now I need one 515, just shut up and take my money
yes thank you
And air tractor 805 fireboss 160 drops per day
Yes, I felt the fireboss was noticeably missing from Viking's marketing department graphs. I'd like to see side by side comparisons of water delivery and running costs of two air tractors vs one 515. Not knocking the 515 at all, just some of those claims ring a little hollow without factoring in the boss.
Has Canadair looked at the possibility of retrofitting more powerful engines, such as the Alison T56 family of engines?
The CL-415 has plenty of power. 5000hp in total. I flew them for 2 years. All the crashes have been from inept flying skills, not lack of power.
10 for Greece
firerescue 1997 we need them ASAP, we paid the cost of wildfires dearly in 2018 with 99 people.
I ve heard that the convert from 215 to 515 costs A LOT per unit!
5:53 damn thats cool
The UK should have a Sqn of these with the RAF not just for firefighting in the UK like in Dorset and The New Forest but to help others forest fires are a danger to ALL that live on this planet.
nice video ty
Has this "VIKING" society the backbone to keep up with the production of such an aircraft?? which experience have they in building aircrafts?
Only $50,000,000 a piece! Plus extras...
How much these days? Almost 2023?
Where is the SuperLike Button???
best ever aircraft
wow... only 400 horsepower engines.. that's amazing.. somebody read the script wrong.. that should be 4,000 horsepower engines.
as far as i know canadairs are no longer in production.
Any country that has encountered forest fires should invest in them planes, but that's not the case.
do not complicate almost perfect aircraft, you just have to produce 415 and you will earn a big money
Cape Town - are you watching?
Canada needs 1000 of these toys mass produced. ASAP or built couple Giga-factories in Canada
cant wait to see them in action, allthough when in action is mostly in bad situations...

Did you watched the video?
Why is the USA not using it..?
How many fires were started by humans?
Habrá video del 43 grupo este verano? Gracias!!
GREECE 1 8 Canadairs?WOow
I would say that the loads per day for a helicopter (tanker or bucket) are way off. As with a 415 it all based on water location and distance from the fire, and fuel location and distance from the fire. I have had more than 200 tank loads per day on a fire with the fuel and water locations with a short distance to the fire where the bombers are in need of an airport for fuel and in the case of retardant aircraft their retardant load.
If only other companies builds them other than Vikings and Canadair. Including more firefighting helicopters
Closely resembles the great PBY Catalina from WW2.
Canadair water bombers are amazing aircraft and probably the most important and effective tools for fighting wildfires. It is summer 2024 and Canada is burning in several provinces once again, as are many states of our southern neighbour. Note, that Canada has been recently called out and embarrassed by NATO for failing to meet its' defense spending commitment of 2 percent of GDP. The Department of Defense of the Federal Government needs to issue an immediate contract to build an addition 200 of these aircraft under the defense budget. The Canadian military is already actively involved in the fight against wildfires and wildfires are a domestic threat to Canada and to several of our NATO foreign allies. The aircraft would remain under the ownership of the Department of Defense and would be dispersed across Canada based on need, to be operated by the military, or by private contractors. When Canada's need is low, aircraft can be utilized to support the needs of our allies. Provide support of a Canadian company, creating Canadian Jobs, adding to Canada's GDP, protecting valuable Canadian resources, saving Canadian's lives and greatly minimizing the horrors of wildfires. This is DEFENSE...this is doable.
It can drop 6000 litres or 6 tonnes at a time.
The Ericson can drop 9000 litres or 9 tonnes at a time with pinpoint accuracy without the need for a long lake, Just the farm dam will do the job.
Can fire retardant be added to the water picked up from a lake?
Yes as a matter fact fire retardant is always added they just don’t mention it in this video
Con los incendios actuales en Chile (enero y febrero 2023) no sé que esperan el gobierno o las empresas forestales para comprar al menos un par de estos modelos, déjense de adquirir un par de f-15 o eurofighter, los combates a futuro son por el cambio climático.
