Filipino Reactor. Keeping it real and natural.
I am Nephi Acaling. I am native to Bacolod City but currently living outside the Philippines due to job assignment. I’ve lived in different countries like Singapore, Japan and United States due to job assignments. I was in the US when I started this channel thus the confusion to some where I am truly based.
At a time, I was a band vocalist performing every Friday and Saturday night at a local bar chain but recently decided to quit from my band to focus on my TH-cam Channel and my full-time job as an engineer.
I was a member of the Filipino Voice Symphony where I was taught by professional chorale singers (e.g. former soprano from UP Madrigal Singers). Our choral group actually bagged the Gold Medal in the International A cappella Championships held in Singapore in 2011.
I was the Glee Club president and was a trainer for various singing competitions when I was in the university - all these were humbling experiences for me.
WHAT IS THE GOAL?
My mission is to promote music among different regions and try to make people from different countries relate to each other through music and singing. I have always believed that even small gestures in understanding similarities and differences towards others may actually lead to greater awareness about countries and their people.
In this modern world full of things that divide humanity, it is but perfect to put efforts in re-uniting and building bridges among all of us.
I have come to a point of trying to find a greater purpose in life, something beyond just being happy for a moment. Happiness in life is more meaningful if we choose to be useful, be honorable, be compassionate, and make a difference.

Gua tinggal di perantauan daerah kota Jambi. Di lokasi itu rata-rata perantauan yang di isi mayoritas suku batak.
Asyiknya tiap malam di kedai tuak sebelah rumah selalu ada orang-orang batak yang kumpul menikmati malam dan persaudaraan setelah siang bergelut dengan panas dan beratnya pekerjaan.
Gua selalu minta izin gabung sama abang-abang dan bapak-bapak di kedai menikmati suara gitar dan organ tunggal dan alunan suara serak tinggi khas batak di sana.
Tapi saya sedih tidak bisa ikut nyanyi karena gak tau bahasanya tapi memang THE BEST lah suara orang batak rata-rata gua berasa di kedai sedang dengar live penyanyi aslinya lo.

I'm an indonesian but not bataknese. Same with you nephi, I amazed with them. Most of my friends from north sumatera able to sing and they can create harmony spontaneously even they have not practiced before.
bener banget .. keluarga aq separoh batak ... kl lagi ngumpul" .... ada aja yg buka nyanyian .. maka nda nunggu pake lama .. langsung masuk suara 2,3,4 hahaha ... tanpa ba bi bu .. bisa langsung masuk aja tuh not ... spt sdh ter'program tuh telinga ketika denger suatu nada .. maka yg denger tau kapasitas suaranya lsg masuk aja n pas n enak pula ..
They sang just for release their stressed after work the whole day..step in the nearest shop for drinks called tuak..like sake in japanese..
Sing a song in north sumatera usually for release stress and tired work for whole day... And sometime we just sit in there, drink and take a part in song, and sometime you don't know who is sing or them...
But, yeah (inilah budaya yang selalu ada pada kami, batak)...

Bukan karunia , emang disana pergaulannya begitu , ngumpul" nyanyi tiap malam tanpa sadar mereka itu sudah latih teknik sejajar berjalan di langkah professional yg ngelatih teknik nyanyi mereka terus"an , bahkan bocil"nya aja ngumpul" nyanyi jg , makanya orang Batak daerah itu bnyk yg nyanyinya bagus"

You have no idea. When we have a Christmas celebration or New Year Eve all family usually gather together sitting in a circle praying and singing. We naturally just do the task to sing harmony. Everybody knows to sing soprano, bass, alto, or tenor.
There is jokes about Bataknese, if they are alone, they play guitar. If there are two person, they play chess, when there are three person or more, they sing a long. That's what we called Batak, everyone can sing. Proud to be Batak

Hi bro Nephi, I noticed that you reacted to many of Batak songs. Appreciate that so much. As Bataknese that lived in Batak community and neighborhood, singing is a daily activity after day work.
Itu minuman tuak bro, (air nira) bahan dasar gula merah fermentasi dari pohon nira/ aren atau kelapa, org stmpt minum untuk menghangatkan badan. Bila minum terlalu banyak bisa mabuk krn mengandung alkohol dari fermentasi .
Mungkin kalo judika lg mudik dikampung halaman suara dia tergolong biasa2 aja kali ya kalo lg nyanyi bareng warga sana 🤣🤣🤣

So for us people in north sumatera, especially “batak” ethnic, singing with harmonization is a common thing in our daily. And this also happens for ambon ethnic in maluku. They even have some kind of statue which is written “ambon city of music”

North Sumatra is a big Province, the famous place is Toba Lake with Samosir Island In the middle of Lake..,locals they have Tor Tor dance...very famous tradisional dance. They are singing...n dancing.

Traditional cafe in Batak village, called LAPO. It is common to for Batak tribr, to gather in a Lapo, drink traditional drink, Tuak, playing guitar and sing. We have lot of beautiful song, that we can sing, without reading the lyrics, as we already familiar with those song. If you hear their voice in more detail, they sang the song with complete composition of Sopran, alto, bass and tenor
