RB2 definitely does, but the Tenkaichi series touched more on minor details. BT uses more accurate beam shapes while RB takes a different style with many wavy beams and sparkles. With RB they forgot simple things like Vegito does not have lightning in either base or Ssj, Majin Vegeta's lightning should be blue like a normal Ssj2, not red.

It doesnt matter if you can push it. It is more awkward then just moving the right stick. Plus L2 was used for way too much. Charging ki, using blast 1s, using blast 2s, using your ultimate and dashing. That is like half of what you do a single button is needed for. Now all of those things are spread out and dont need to be controlled by a single button.
Exactly. Glad to see you agree with me that L2 was used for too much. That is why on RB they spread it out. You only need X to dash now. You just push the right stick to use a super. So you dont need to use the ki charge button for a whole bunch of actions now.
The main problem I had with the controls was that the A(X) button was used for dragon dashing rather than it being charge+dash. That removed the neutral dash. My biggest problem with the RBs(other than the changed/removed mechanics from BT3)is all the broken hit-boxes and that recoil is never guaranteed. It drives me crazy when I land the first 1-3 hits but the opponent can just punch through that or using a super while I'm punching him. Makes my brain want to explode.
The customization on this game is better than RB2 and it actually has the story line portion, which is what makes a DBZ game so great. But RB2 had more characters, more locations, and better graphics in my opinion.
+Cj Kalandek you know what I look forward to when I get RB2? the fact that I can create my own story mode since they have quotes for characters if you pair them up in a match. as for the graphics, that's entirely your opinion, personally I think the stages look awesome, but the characters... ehhhh some look like play-doh which I dont like, if you dont dislike it then thats fine with me :)
@fr0zenknight And if you start a battle with a certain transformation like at super saiyan 2 you can go super saiyan 3, normal, or super saiyan. With the press of a button. You can customize all super attacks for each transformation individually or you can make them all the same with copy and paste. This means you can make the transformation even MORE significant by giving the super saiyan form all kinds of special abilities the normal form doesn't have. The transformations ROCK!!
In my opinion I think playing online should be rewarding and worthwhile. Example like Tekken (I think), if you play online you should get points/in-game money to customize your character of some sort, e.g. Clothing, colouration of the hair, maybe some accessories etc.... That way when you play online you can see the type of person you are fighting and look at how cool there customization of the character is. Make it worthwhile, and maybe something extra in Tournament mode
These maps are much larger than they were in the previous Tenkaichi series and are probably the largest in any fighting game. The only levels that needed to be bigger are the cave and tournament stages.
I didn't mention RB1. BT3 follows the manga's style of lighting almost to the letter. RB2 does have a much better lightning aura than RB1, but BT3 pulses much more frequently and is more chaotic and again resembles the manga more. UT and BT3 do lightning better than RB1/2. RB1/2 overall makes the lighting much more realistic rather than how BT3/UT make it jagged and stylized like the manga.
Those sets still apply to the demo. I think the demo has Ssj1 Goku, UT Gohan, Kid Buu and Dabura, no? Ssj1 can get to his aerial combo by pressing Y (/\) after a Smash: High. UT Gohan can get to his by pressing A (X) after a Smash: High. Both Kid Buu and Dabura share the same set, and they can get to theirs by pressing Y (/\) after a Smash: High.
I prefer BT3's attacks because they stay close to the source material, but take liberties to make the attack more distinguishable. RB adds too many sparkles and wispy effects and overdoes everything to the point of it just being an incoherent mess of effects(some attacks excluded). I have looked at both versions and prefer BT3's look. RB2's animation is presented better though.
"five hundred times in a row" Are you talking about an aerial combo--where the screen turns a certain color, the enemy attacks rapidly and afterwards sends you flying?
"Street Fighter and Tekken both have characters that can do all of those except freezing time, but even then there's only one character in this game that can do that." I was saying that Tekken and Street Fighter don't have characters who can freeze time, but there are characters who can do all the other things that guy said. i.e swaying, counters, teleporting, etc. and as far as i can remember, only Guldo could freeze time in DBZ anyway.
Its balanced because you can boost up certain stats exceptionally by sacrificing other stats. For example, I've boosted a character's attack by almost 2x, but at the cost of lowering my super damage by more than half and throws slightly. I don't mind that at all. Of course the good ones cost more, there's no negatives. Attack+3 is worth 3 and Attack+3/Super-2 is worth 1. Ultimate Body is worth 5, limiting use of other items to make an overpowered custom. I see nothing wrong with that.
I did say 2x melee damage didn't I? That's makes Vegito go from a basic 5-hit combo of ~2050 to ~5000. That's quite a sizable increase. I would have mentioned BT2 but I ran out of room. BT2 you could easily make a God by equipping 5 Kiss of #18s, Halo and, if the character had the free slots, full ki at the start of each battle. Other items were unnecessary at this point. RB1's was problematic because you could equip both armors and random vanishing with room to still put more buffs.
@wiiner11 Actually, BT3 is for both the Wii and PS2. As for the character roster, it actually makes a little sense that there would be fewer characters in RB than in BT3. After all, the GT stories aren't in RB and neither are the DB ones so why put in the characters from those two? Second, this time they put only characters that can actually do something, unlike Hercule, Videl, Roshi, Babidi, etc., who are only there for show in the anime or to be part of the plot and nothing else.
Wait a minute this game is approaching 10 years old! Dammit I feel old again. This game is one of my favorites of the series. I do find this the better of the Raging Blast games. Raging Blast 2 took out so many game modes. I also swear it is way buggeir. The graphics are a downgrade. It lacks the anime style aesthetic of this game. RB2 also wattered down the item customization. Which in this game are the best in the series. It does not match the Budokai Tenkaichi series however. It felt like it was too streamlined. If it didn't have that regression then this would surpass even those games. I really like the improvements to transformations, auras the story mode and super and ultimate attacks. There are more to them and they can be customized. Rather than have multiple versions of the same character you can just choose which one you want. If only it didn't simplify things so much it would be my favorite Dragon Ball game.
In that number you have this though: Goku, Goku, Goku, SSj Goku, SSj Goku. What should only be a total of two turns into five. Plus seeing as how you can make an Early, Mid and End Goku by equipping the right moves onto Goku in RB, you could say RB has that many Gokus too.
This is Dragon Ball. The option for an overpowered character has been present for quite a few dbz games and it worked. Omega2040 goes into detail as to why limiting customization hurts the game. If you are serious player you arent going to play matches with custom characters anyway =/. If you want balance, that is what a no item fight is for. If there is an option like this then there should be an option to build an overpowered character. It makes the game more entertaining.
@Omega2040 well apart from ur final general score which contradicted almost everything said in the review, the review was pretty good. One of the best I've seen for this game.
@wiiner11 More characters, yes. More moves, havent counted up in the air. Not sure what power ups are, but if you mean items then no. More stages yes, though the ones on RB are bigger. Finally game modes RB has more by far.
@Heatseaker19 I understand what you mean. But honestly, that is a justifiable score without prejudice. But he gave it an 8.5 as a DBZ game. Because, if you aren't a fan, the meat of the game (all the fan service and significance of certain moves, plus the content to unlock) will mean very little to you at all. So the game would be very boring. But for a DBZ fan this game is an 8.5. So for you. It's an 8.5 if you agree with the video. It's a really good game. i recommend buying it.
Yes they did. Bad hitboxes affect outcomes of fights since you'll be able to stop flanking opponents with smashes or supers. Its a nuisance having to guess if you'll get hit behind the opponent by an attack that completely misses, or attacking them with an attack they can block/deflect from behind. Stock attacks have been slowly fixed throughout the games.
Until it gets clogged in a wall and you have to play in first person. That and the camera loved to sit right behind you character so you were your own blindspot and wouldn't correct itself when you started attacking. It also didn't track Super Dashes at all.
@iJoke2bChaotic Agreed on the story thing. On top of that the graphics in the second one are too...shiny. This game is actually the closest I've seen to the anime. And as a personal preference, I love how this game as SSJ3 Vegeta, and a What-if Story settling the debate between Vegito and Gogeta.
They are separate characters. And people like to call it BT4, but it has changed enough to be its own series I would say. Though clearly built off of the BT series.
"how many times are we going to have to finish the same old fucking story?" I can understand this, but I'd really like them to make one really impressive story mode for the 3d fighters. And going back to the game modes topic, they could have had both a story and Galaxy Mode. Really all Galaxies were just custom battles with some requirements thrown in. Of course, that OVA might've taken up much of the space of the disk.
It's really irksome that Ultimate Gohan and Dabura were left out. It really hurts the story. I also wouldn't have minded if Super Janenba and Cooler were added. There are 4 corner slots missing from the roster, so these 4 would complete the roster IMO.
I know what the manga lightning looks like and BT3 fits it almost to the letter. RB2 and UT got the style back to an extent, but the lightning doesn't fluctuate fast enough, or have enough present at a single time BT3's faster pulsing does have a purpose. Its always visible while RB2's isn't always present. I was done arguing which was better since graphical preference is opinion, not fact.
@MultiCaliban it really depends on the connections of the people playing, but for the most part, its a pretty stable game. (at least on the xbox360) sometimes theres a slight lag though, but it doesnt happen often
@jcurls90 Android saga covers when Dr.Gero shows up and releases 17 and 18, Cell saga is when Cell first shows up and absorbs the androids thus begins the Cell games
You can switch your supers and the graphics are technically better in RB2. It also has online if you care for that. However, BT3 has a story, more game modes, better DBZ atmosphere, more characters/stages and better gameplay overall.
Not sure why it would be a big memory issue. I can only imagine most of those modes were just superficial. I.E. Battle Trials were just strings of fights with different opponents for each one. Arcade is the same with its matches. There isn't a much different scoring system that would suck up a large amount of space. Taking it back to the Tenkaichi series, they had a huge roster with tons of gameplay mechanics and modes, and those were ps2/Wii games. Really RB2 should have had more modes.
Its not really about time constraints. They could've copy-pasted those modes into RB2. Compared to traditional fighters, FPS's and many other online games games, Raging Blast doesn't have near enough mechanics or graphical usage to cause any lag.
RB2 Graphics. RB2 fight system (raging soul and assault chases) RB2 Characters. RB Story (with a few more since there are more characters) RB2 Stages. RB Extras. RB Voices. Make all this into RB3 and it'll be GOLD.
Similar to what I said in the previous comment, 'too much going on' isn't really the case. If you've played FPSs, there are tons of things going on like explosions, firing bullets, knifing, all of this happening with a possibility of up to 100+ players(MAG) doing things like this with little to no lag. One of the reasons why BL(and BT3 too) lagged wasn't because of the data usage, but just that the online wasn't made well. Lol, look at Burter. He's the fastest in RB and it doesn't lag much.
Galaxy mode was decent, but for a main mode was unacceptable. It should have been no more than a secondary mode with a story/adventure mode holding the game together.
BT3's customization was the most balanced out of all the DBZ games. If you wanted to boost a stat up cheaply, you had to lose other stats. There is nothing wrong with that system. RB2 uses the same system, only simpler since the negatives are separate. You must be high if you think Super Explosive waves are more vibrant in RB2. The Super Spirit bomb looks more accurate and interesting with its high-contrast blue outer and white inner sections in BT3 compared to RB2's white mess of effects.
@fr0zenknight Dude not only can you become super saiyan extremely easily at any time during the fight even right after it starts, you can skip super saiyan and go to supersaiyan 2 or 3. You can also power down and then pick another transformation. It's so much easier than BT3. However, characters who can't transform back in the show like Frieza and Cell, can't switch back and must go up one transformation at a time. Or you can start the battle with anyone of their transformation. It's AMAZING!
It doesn't make it fair. If you manually dodged or were completely out of the way there is no reason for it to hit you. If you vanish with your back to your opponent you'll spawn with your back to the opponent[same in some cases in BT3]. In those cases however, thanks to the awkward hitboxes, multivanishing out of a super is clunky at best. BT3's hitboxes are better in these cases and the system better allows for multivanishing.
I really can't see how Raging Blast can be considered "better". It has shinier graphics, a shitload of Story fights, more sounds and online mode. These three things makes it better than BT3. The characters models look true to the anime. The special effects doesn't vissualy (sorry for my english, I'm swedish) look so awesome. Auras look weak and small. The only ones that got better is SSJ2/SSJ3 and Broly LSSJ auras.
RB2 is a lot more fun to play. It isnt broken in the slightest. Plus it added important characters that were missing from the first one like Cooler and Mystic Gohan.
You can't change your ultimate for any character unless it's Goku. And Goku only, normal form. You have to get these items, A Bit Of Sprit for the average large Spirit Bomb that Goku used on Frieza. Or you can use Everyone's Spirit for the Super Spirit Bomb, you buy it from the shop once you beat the Buu Saga, or atleast after you fight Kid Buu. But yeah, you pick up those 2 items. Don't worry, they aren't expensive. Then you equip one or the other. of your choice. They both look awesome.XD
I really wish the budokai tenkaichi games were on xbox 360, I used to play them on ps2 and they were really good watching this made me buy this game and it is very good, Thanks.
Perfectly sober thank you. Of course terrible hit boxes take away from it. They shouldn't be worse than BT3's or even RB1's. RB2's customization is a simplified version of BT3's, aside from the super swapping. I personally prefer how the effects look in BT3. They were much more vibrant, high contrast gradients, resembled the anime/manga look with added lightning/effects to make them more unique. RB2's looked too wispy, sparkly, and they blurred out most of the detail form the effects in RB1.
if the controls were better , than anyone would be able to pick up the controller and learn the controls instantly. These controls are contrived. It's like shifting gears in your car by honking the horn. It's like playing halo with only one analog stick and your fire buttons on the face of the controller instead of the trigger.
Great review man, best and truest review I have seen of the game. One thing though? Please tell me this plays better than BT3, in the melee's and the beams?
Yeh, but I like how she became in GT. Though she would've been better off without the flying-ability. Same thing goes for Videl. Those girls should've stayed... well ground fighters. Would've suited them better IMO.

RB1/2 overall makes the lighting much more realistic rather than how BT3/UT make it jagged and stylized like the manga.
the funny thing is .... NO DLC NO UPDATE NEEDED NO CASH GRAB THIS GAME IS PERFECT ! 😃
"Street Fighter and Tekken both have characters that can do all of those except freezing time, but even then there's only one character in this game that can do that."
I was saying that Tekken and Street Fighter don't have characters who can freeze time, but there are characters who can do all the other things that guy said. i.e swaying, counters, teleporting, etc. and as far as i can remember, only Guldo could freeze time in DBZ anyway.
@narutopins Just press Y/Triangle and it will select random computer opponents. You don't need a second controller.
Yes, and the controls respond better in this one. However, if you're coming from 2, then the gameplay might feel like an downgrade.
This vid was made on my B-DAY, Thanks Omega!
If anyone’s wondering if getting this game or the second one then I recommend this one! There’s simply more content!
@wiiner11
Actually, BT3 is for both the Wii and PS2.
Q77 Spartan same bro
In that number you have this though:
Goku, Goku, Goku, SSj Goku, SSj Goku.
@wiiner11
More characters, yes.
Damn best Dragon Ball game ever ! I miss this game so much !
Until it gets clogged in a wall and you have to play in first person. That and the camera loved to sit right behind you character so you were your own blindspot and wouldn't correct itself when you started attacking. It also didn't track Super Dashes at all.
Battle of Z is supposed to be a mix between ragin blast 2, ultimate tenchachi, tenchaichi 3, and tenchaichi tag team. Plus, with some new stuff.
Go to versus. I think the second player has to press start at the character select screen too, but that might not be necessary.
I'm happy that it is tedious because in the other DBZ games you were able to finish a complete game run through in under 3 hours.
@CCMKBProductions It's a what-if scenario. It cost 20 stars too.
@DSXentertainment What are you talking about? You can play tournament on single player offline! That's how you unlock most of the moves!
It's really irksome that Ultimate Gohan and Dabura were left out. It really hurts the story. I also wouldn't have minded if Super Janenba and Cooler were added. There are 4 corner slots missing from the roster, so these 4 would complete the roster IMO.
Should have had a what if Yamcha got a transformation
I'm so sick of transformations so I'm glad they didn't.
"someone vanished out of the way" and "It would kind of make sense that they would dodge it altogether since they did dodge it."
I don't understand why so many things were cut from Tenchaichi 3, Maps and Ape characters, it doesn't seem to make sense.
Its a what if. However it is debatable canon since we never saw Vegeta fight after those 10 years went by.
@MultiCaliban it really depends on the connections of the people playing, but for the most part, its a pretty stable game. (at least on the xbox360)
sometimes theres a slight lag though, but it doesnt happen often
Is customization, with the proper item you can add lightning effect on any character.
@aaris013 because the stars can unlock songs, costumes, and batttles in the game
Still the dbz game I've played the most up to this day, never got why people dislike it, sorry to say but it' far superior to Budokai Tenkaichi 3
Dude...you deserve some kind of reward. You are THE BEST reviewer...EVER.
I really wish the budokai tenkaichi games were on xbox 360, I used to play them on ps2 and they were really good watching this made me buy this game and it is very good,
Thanks.
Get RB1 if you want tons of modes and a good story. Get RB2 if you want a gameplay system with some variety.
if the controls were better , than anyone would be able to pick up the controller and learn the controls instantly. These controls are contrived. It's like shifting gears in your car by honking the horn. It's like playing halo with only one analog stick and your fire buttons on the face of the controller instead of the trigger.
@Charge183IF RB3 is Ultimate Tenkachi. (Well in Japan it is, its called Ultimate Blast.)
