Hey! I just wanted to let you know that you are the one which has helped me design and build a Kodiak 100 home cockpit! Thank you for all of your videos!!! I'll be making a video this winter
Excellent job, as always. Having a proper rotary encoder makes sim flying SO much more immersive. The Propwashsim ones are fantastic and a great value - dual encoders are hard to find when you are only buying one or two.
Thank you Peter! The videos don't do it justice to how much I struggle with all of this though 🙃 I have a handful of failed attempts for every working part on the sim.
In your Fritzing Schematic you show a switch. This is neither listed in the BOM or mentioned in the presentation. I assume it is a momentary (Tactile) switch but what is its function.
While you couuuuullllllddddd use Air Manager I'd recommend against it. I feel the coding process would be such a hassle and time sink it wouldn't be worth it (at least to me) I use an LCD that has a driver using only 4 wires, where Air Manager (to my knowlege) supports only the LCD without the driver (16 wires) siminnovations.com/wiki/index.php?title=Hw_chr_display_add What makes Air Manager preferable to you?
@@CaptainBobSim I'm already using Air Manager for my Cessna Switch panel, and I really don't want to have two apps running in the back ground, if I don't have to, and I already paid for Air Manager. I used Air Manager because at the time it just seemed easier to setup for the panel then learning to do Arduino Scripts which I suppose I could do, I just didn't want to spend a lot of time doing it. I'm not totally apposed to getting MobiFlight if it makes sense, but it would all depends on how easy it would be to convert everything over.
@@tomreppert5697 Gotcha, I definitely feel it's much cleaner to have one app running than two! In my experience, Air Manager is best for things that are premade (switch panel, or common instruments). It really shines when you want to display instruments on a screen. MobiFlight is increasingly popular because it easily allows you to connect things in more customizable ways. It should be decently easy to convert over if you want to. I also think you would be fine running both at the time as MobiFlight (at least in my experience) isn't a very taxing software.
@@CaptainBobSim Yes that’s one of the other reasons I went with Air Manager, I did a DYI knobster and bought a touch screen, so that I could have a radio, transponder, and maybe a GPS later on, but never got the touch screen to work. The plan was to use PilotsEdge to train for ATC radio calls. When I saw your radio panel I thought that would be a good solution. I looked at some of your TH-cam post last night on MobiFlight and the one one the switch panel, and think I may give it a shot. Thanks for all the help.
Great video…I’m curious how you managed to get the single encode to move from field to field. I’ve managed to get them all displayed but can’t figure out how to get a single encoder to do that.
I set the encoder as an "index" using a MobiFlight variable then used a precondition to only run the row if the index is = 1. I also made a tick for each row that only shows when the index is at that row. I followed that logic for the rest of the rows. The video showing how I did everything will be posted relatively soon (just a lot of editing). The .mcc file I made is in the GitHub.
Hey Captain! I'm planning on making a solution like Knobster, but instead of setting the conditional variables (altitude, heading, course etc) in mobiflight with switches I was thinking if there's any way to set them externally on a webapp or something in js, python, I used TouchPortal a bit, very cool add on for it and was thinking of doing something similar so we can use a single knob for all the adjustments to be made in the aircraft, thanks in advance :)
Hi mate! Haven’t spoke for a while but wow well done! Great to see the channel grow and this radio panel looks awesome! Please do keep it up, if you’re going to FS Expo next year (I think I saw you on the website), it’ll be great to meet you there!
Thank you! And yes, I'll make a configuration video. Just need to find a time my siblings won't barge in screaming Frozen 2, and a way to precariously mount my phone cameras.
Hi Bob, I Have a few Arduino UNO’s, can i use one of them instead of a Mega at this project? It has enough GND connection’s?It would fit in the Mounting Plate? Also, If I don’t want to use a Dual Encoder I can use a regular encoder and switch between fine and rough using the encoder button? Last thing, Regular encoder require 5V or GND only? Your Projects and Help for the community is absolutely amazing!!! You are my favorite Aviation TH-camr. Thanks! Sorry for the tons of questions🥲
Hello! You can twist/connect multiple wires together to create more grounds "it all goes to the same place" You can use an UNO or MEGA, they both will fit You'd have to change the code for that but can do it! Regular encoders only require ground. I hope you have a blast with your build!
Can an arduino mega handle more than one task? It seems as though every instrument, every mod uses a separate Arduino. If possible, is there a chance we can use 1 Arduino for more than 1 task? example, altimeter, airspeed and artificial horizon?
Yeah! Arduinos can handle up to 65 input/output pins. You'll just always see me using my prototype arduino in the videos so you aren't staring at a monstrous wiring loom while trying to learn the wiring.
Out of the park again. Makes me wonder where you will be in 20 years from now. Oh! looking forward to parts list and asb. instructions for HDG IND. Still a secret.
Thank you, Gerald! I too wonder where I'll be in 20 years - hopefully, something more interesting than tax advising. I hope to get it out soon! I finally have access to my college dorm studio after winter break.
So, can we finally listen to some FM stations when this thing is multifunctional?? :):):) ... I know different frequency ranges...(blabla bla bla bla bla bla bla) B738 ADF could point the needle to the nearest radio tower, the last navigation hope........
I don't think you could hook it up to FM Directly using MobiFlight but I bet you could hook it up so that when you turn the dial it sends a keyboard command to another software that might be able to tune into your favorite music 🎶
Capt I m really proud of you. A man with generous heart that is not stingy to share his knowledge to community . Keep up with great job.

I couldn't agree more!
I like the propwashsim ones. I do wish they had a single common pin instead of them being split up.
Awesome video Trevor cant wait to get my 3D printer going again and have a go at building this stack
Have fun with Ian! Cheers!

It's an optional switch for either power or whatever you want! (ie pause)
Thanks so much for your reply
Love this design, thinking of getting the build kit, but wondering if it’s possible to incorporate this with air manager rather then mobi flight
While you couuuuullllllddddd use Air Manager I'd recommend against it.
