That brake fluid bottle tool is honestly good for everyone, not just dyna riders. I’m gonna make that even for my handle bar reservoir

Actually, all this I’ve been taught as a youngster of about 10 years by my grandpa… and that was back in the early seventies! However, today they are as useful as back then… !

Anyone who uses the old Sonicare "Essence" toothbrush heads can salvage two rare-earth magnets from each one. Tape one to the end of your coat hanger to recover that lost bolt. The tape prevents the magnet from transferring to larger parts (with more iron). You can also put a magnet in a plastic bag to attract chips from drilling. The bag makes it easy to separate them from the magnet for disposal.
Great tips and tricks Doc, when I was an apprentice, learned a lot from the guys who had been doing it for decades. They already had the bugs worked out. Necessity is the Doc of invention!

Those are great tips Doc. I am fairly new to Harley-Davidson brand motorcycles ( 2.5 years) slowly learning to maintain my bike. Any tip for knowing when the primary oil is serviced to the right level? The picture in my owners manual and service manual is a bit deceiving. I would also think that hose on the cap would make servicing any of the fluids a tad less messy. Years ago as a jet mechanic in the service. We used a dab of clear or whatever color was handy of RTV on our fingers to hold a nut in place as we threaded the bolt to it.

a dab of valve grinding compound on screwdriver and allen bits keeps screws from rounding out so easily.

Instead of sticky tack stuff just magnetize the tool. Wrap some wire around it and touch it to battery for few seconds and tool will be magnetized. Tool will stay magnetized for quite a while before you have to magnetize again.

Hi Doc as always good tips. I always save the tops from the 90W gear oil qt bottle it’s faster. This is one that I’ll ask if it’s a good idea. I put a magnet on my oil filter to hold any metal that maybe in the motor.
Thank you! Have you ever done a 5 min block of instruction on internal/external CIRCLIP REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION? Ex. brake/clutch lever pin circlips and primary.🙂
I use the oil filter drain funnel on my lawn tractor. Keeps the oil off the frame
Doc you could also use your sticky insulation stuff to get the drop screw
Or steal a fridge magnet and glue it to a wire. Thanks for your videos they are always interesting even if not for my model bike lots of good info
Dave, that sticky insulation stuff is called refrigeration tape. In automotive applications it's used on a/c evaporators as both a sealer/insulator. Especially useful on the expansion valve capillary tube contact(sensing) point. Been awhile, but we used to buy it in 25' rolls, EVERCO brand. Lots of uses.
Make sure you use rubber that is compatible with brake fluid or you could contaminate the brake fluid

These are some great tips and tricks that I have never thought of. I especially like the o-ring trick on the swivel joint. Thanks for sharing!
To make a hex head bolt stick in a socket, put a piece of paper towel over the head. If it's loose, double the towel. Leaves no goo behind, either.
Instead of the strip caulk, you can use a small piece of paper to wedge in between a socket and a bolt, or an allen/hex and a cap screw. (and it wont gunk up your tool!)

Doc that is fine if a guy has that stuff. Electric tape works well for the Swivel in a pinch . Long Trans funnel works great for the Break fluid . I keep a lot of magnets on my tool box most of my allen head are magnetic and screwdrivers . tape a small magnet on a wire hanger or Bailing wire makes a long reach grabber .

Great tips, especially on the swivel. Instead of using tar to hold a screw I'll lightly wrap some electrical tape around the screw or bolt head, works every time and if you use a non spark plug socket 5/8" wrap the electrical tape around then tuck it in the socket, keeps the plug from falling out.

Instead of tar. Rub you wrench on a magnet and it will magnetize your wrench to hold on bolts.

first one.. I use a magnet on shaft to hold stuff..2 nd one... tip on brak fluid.. cool thanks ,I been using a funnel but hard to see when full.. others.. again I use magnets.. for like $2 you can get a roll of little ones smaller than a dime.. they work get on tools, as note hangers,holding little nuts and bolts, I use'em constantly...stay in the wind!

A 15/16 deep socket is what I used.
I love your tips and videos. I know to some extent, you are promoting Harley products and your dealer's service, but I have not found anything you've said to be untrue or unhelpful. As for this video, I would hope that most people would have figured out these methods, or other methods, to accomplish the tasks you describe. If they haven't, they probably won't be successful at anything anyway. Thanks anyway.

Its a schrater valve
Doc, speaking of valve stems. Can we buy the upgrade to the "L" CVO valve stem when we replace a tire?
Those L valves are usually tpms valves. So u have to buy the tpms valve. If ur bike doesnt have tpms its kinda pointless to spend all that money for them.
You can also buy angled (90°, 60°, 45°) valve stem extenders. Single or packs. Brass or chrome.

Instead of wasting time with drilling holes for a valve stem, just fill a syringe 💉 with brake fluid and fill the master cylinder that way 🤔
100ml syringe with tubing on Amazon for $5. Works like a charm, plus you can use it to reverse bleed the lines. Hasn’t let me down so far after using it on numerous bikes.
Careful! Fill VERY slowly. Brake fluid cavitaties easily and loves to develop micro-bubbles.
Tom Morrisey Exactly. I would fill slowly and then let it sit for about 15 minutes or more with the syringe hanging from handlebar above the caliper with some string. Patience is key when it comes to brakes.

from being in an automotive parts dept. for 33 years, the 1st tip you used is called dum dum.
And the dum dum can be used for the last tip instead of Duct tape and grease.

Great tech tip let's potentially drop a little "tar" ball down into the engine area and have a hot mess later... Common sense tip: Just use a magnetic screw driver or rub the end on a magnet to hold the screw.
