The Staatskapelle Dresden has been founded in 1548 by Kurfürst Moritz of Saxony. It is one of the world's oldest orchestras. The precursor ensemble was Die Kurfürstlich-Sächsische und Königlich-Polnische Kapelle (The Saxony Elector and Royal Polish Band). The orchestra is the musical body of the Sächsische Staatsoper (Saxon State Opera). Venue of the orchestra is the Semperoper opera house.

i will never forget you, maestro sinopoli. too young.
Maestro! You‘ve given so much to the world. You left us much too early. - Thanks.
R I P !
Grandissimo Sinopoli, grande regia con immagini stupende, scomparso troppo presto
Grandissimo Sinopoli! Perfetto connubio orchestra tedesca e direttore italiano.
such beauty...such genius...so inspiting and unique! just breaks my hart to know that wagner wrote it under such hardship and unapreciation... he still went ahead a gave us this unbelievable music!!!!
Grande, grandissimo, immortale Sinopoli!
Excellent performance of Guiseppe Sinopoli. The work of Richard Wagner, "Rienzi, the last tribune", shows us the young protagonist who rises up against the tyranny of a fraction of nobles and manages to create a strong, just and honest state. He is acclaimed by the people and the defeated nobles whom he forgives, they also swear allegiance to him, obtaining also the support of the church. However, those same nobles conspire against him and finally, the people, deceived again by their tricks, turn against Rienzi whom the church also withdraws its support. Finally, Rienzi perishes under the ruins of the capitol burned down by his vilely deceived people.
Grande Sinopoli
Toni was simply born 10 -15 years to early
With his high notes and the lyrical spinto voice he would have made a world star singing in the revivals of the Bel canto Operas of Donizetti and Rossini
I worked with him many times and even in the 80’s his high notes where precise and strong
RIP Toni you will always be in my ears and heart
one if not the best version on you tube.bravo and thanks

Great performance
Genio... scomparso davvero troppo presto....!
RIP Giuseppe Sinopoli (born #otd in 1946) 🌹
Zseniális. Top10
Menuda interpretación! Soberbia, Sinipoli que injustamente olvidado está!
Richard Wagner hit the music scene like an avalanche!
This sounds almost frivolous compared to a typical Wagner music, but one can already hear echoes of the Flying Dutchman in this, IMO.
I cry every time i hear this.
Sergio Aleksandrovich, me too.
i smile
Quisiera saber el año de esta grabación... Magnífico!
1548+450=? 🙂

One thing I can't understand. Wagner clearly prescribes two extremely important instruments in the score - serpent and ophiclade. Nowhere does it say contrabassoon and bass tuba. Both instruments are still produced today and there are good performers for them. Why do the conductors miss this fact and not try to reproduce the original instrumentation of this ingenious composer ?!
Because contrabassoons and bass tubas are adequate replacements for serpents and ophiclades. It's not at all _required_ to reproduce the exact conditions of the 1830s and 1840s to achieve the intended effect of a musical composition. That attitude is ultimately unhelpful in the service of music.

The conductor is being “so-so” here.
He rushes when it shouldn’t, too slow when it needs to be hurry up !
he should not be faster than 65km/h!
That's why Wagner is so dangerous. That's really music for an Dictator
