    It’s encouraging that someone as youthful as Aidan has the knowledge to present the Parker 51 as not only a fine writing implement but as a historical artifact as well.

      Thanks! I got into the pens because I wanted to preserve history, and I am very fortunate to be able to do so!

    What a fantastic presentation!! Reliving nostalgic moments from the past.Takes me back over 50 years to a classroom in Poland. Imagine living behind the Iron Curtain, it was harder because we were exposed to the marvels of the " free" world i.e. big American cars and the white picket fences courtesy of Dr Kildare,Bewitched or Ed the talking horse and of course, my favourite one, Bonanza. A girl in our class owned a 51 and was very proud of it to the distress of many a less fortunate real mortal who had to make do with a local version or a Chinese copy which would leak incessantly. BTW, in those days we were not flooded by Chinese products, as is the case with the world today. What a strange and sad state of affairs, i don't know whether the country that used to be the envy of the world produces very much today.

      One absolute is that everything changes. Changes are accelerating. Being the envy of the world is not where I believe we should be. China may make a lot, but that does not make them a great country. Stay safe & healthy.

    Great work guys...very enjoyable viewing. Just one fact correction. The 51 was produced in 1939 which was george parkers 51 year in pens. It was tested in south america for the next 2 years and as you ❤correctly stated was released in 1941 but couldnt be supplied to many because of the lucite being requi e ed for the war effort.

    Thanks for such an interesting and excellent video. I love using my vintage Parker 51s. I still have the one my father gave me when I went to college. He had it fully restored before he gave it to me. It's older than I am and I still use it! It writes like a dream.

    Those art deco bottles are incredible.

      They're not art deco, they're art moderne from the 1940s.

    Great video. I’m a young restorer much like Aiden. I’ve restored a handful of early duofolds. Haven’t restored any later parker’s. Most of my restoration are Waterman’s. Have restored about 150 at this point. I’d love to collaborate with Aiden to share some knowledge on restoration. Take care Chris and Aiden.

    Having bought quite a few Vintage Parkers in the last few months, not even once did I show keenness on 51. On the contrary, I always wondered why it is such a sought after pen.. May be I haven’t been impressed by the hooded nib and an odd combination of gold filled cap and chrome band/ring. Also, all the models which have been on sale here in India have had Aerometric converters which didn’t feel special/unique.
    This video finally convinced me to get one !

    Fun pen history, thank you! Parker 51, more than just a pen, across the generations 🙂

    • @aidanchao6544
      @aidanchao6544 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, truly. I was at a pen club and saw an 83 year old enjoying the same pens I did. The hobby, in that room, transcended 3 generations!

    Parker Quink microfilm black ink is still available, if you are willing to hunt. I paid less than what a new bottle of Parker Quink black costs, for a 4 ounce bottle. (Yes, I got lucky.)
    I have several Parker pens, with a selection of their filling systems. Button filler through the early 1950s student grade lever filler Parkette.
    Thanks to you showcasing Aiden, I have a Parker 51 waiting at the post office right now. Thanks both to you, Chris, and Aiden!
    I also agree that vintage pens make a gold nibbed pen more available. There's plenty out there that are poopooed by some because they're not a piston or cartridge converter filler that are great pens, for much less than most modern pens.

    When you talk about PARKER 51, do you consider the ball point version as well?
    In few words, how you evaluate the ball point version of the 51?

    • @chrisrap52
      @chrisrap52  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have many pencils, don't think I have a ball point. Parker refills are great so I expect the 51 BP to be a good writer.

    Shame you do not make use of your vintage bottles, I would fill one up with viable ink🤔

      I enjoy them in the "as found" condition. I have used some that have ink. Wrote well.

      @@chrisrap52have you ever made a video on using different vintage inks? It seems very little done on TH-cam and it's an interesting thing to see. Noodler's seems infatuated on trying to revive the look of some of the old inks.
