  • Hello friends! This video is one that I'm so excited about because it describes a therapy that can be incredibly beneficial to many people - Myofunctional Therapy (MFT)! In this video, I explain what MFT is and the 4 main goals of this unique therapy.
The headaches, jaw pain, neck pain, jaw popping, jaw clicking, locked jaw, ear pain, etc that you may be experiencing (or have experienced) are likely related to airway issues and the way you breathe (mouth vs. nose). As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions or comments.

This channel is all about TMJ disorders - what they are, how they manifest, what to do about them and how they relate to other issues that may be going unnoticed in the body such as tongue tie, sleep apnea, ADHD, and more! I will also be posting about being a dentist and a working mommy to two wonderful children. Thank you and I hope you enjoy my videos!

I love your videos. I have a narrow and arched palate and I’ve also ground my teeth my entire life, and one side of my jaw pops and clicks and sometimes gets stuck. I also had my deviated septum fixed a couple years ago. Now I can breathe and corrected my tongue posture, but have since noticed my jaw and teeth shifting, to the point where I’m going to need braces (again). It’s wild to think/know this is all related. It’s exhausting trying to address it all in the correct order! Thank you for outlining the steps at the end!

New to this whole Myofuntional Therapy world. My 7 yo was just diagnosed with a posterior tongue tie and we had our first Appointment last week. Just be glad we live in a time with more awareness of these problems. When I was growing up, there was almost none among dentists. And when you catch these problems early in a child, they are relatively easy to fix. It's much harder when people get older and bones, joints, and habits tend to harden.

Wonderful video again Priya!! Thank you! It would be great if you could do a video on palate expansion, which sometimes is also needed to comfortably place the tongue on palate, and as you mention, the palate is the floor of the nose, so by expanding it, nose breathing will become better also. I received the microtens unit just yesterday by the way 😊 I will read the instructions well and give it a try this week. thank you so much!

Your videos have helped more than the crazy $ I've spent on dentists and specialists over the years. However I went to this video from your 2 parter on the tongue, because I'm scared that just putting my tongue on the roof will cause more pain. There wasn't any guidance on that, just to see an ENS and a therapist. (no benefits so thats not happening anytime soon) So still scared to start forcing my tongue to the roof...
but still super grateful for your vids. I feel like the 6 and 6 is helpful thus far. ❤❤

Hi Dr. Mistry, you should know about the work of Clayton Chan and Gneuromuscular Dentistry. Thank you for this video, I wasn't aware of Myofunctional Therapy and just by shifting my tongue into the position you spoke of, I all of a sudden can breathe really well out of my nose as long as I keep the tongue there. I have teeth crowding, not as bad as you showed in the video but it led to bruxism then after several decades led to TMD. I have an orthotic and am in the process of gneuromuscular orthodontics then will need several crowns to get a gneuromuscular occlusion to take the stress off my neck and shoulders and even back. Without the crowns I don't have a way of getting a proper occlusion outside of the orthodic which I do not want to wear long-term. Thank you for helping me with this video, God Bless you.

Basically just ear fullness and ear pain but now I’ve been experiencing fascial spasms for the past week. Mostly spasms and tingling from my jaw all the way to my cheeks. Is it possible that my jaw has been overworked due to the exercises? Will it recover on its own with time?

    Hi Dr Priya.
Can I ask since using a flat plain splint at night my symptoms have become so bad I can't function from severe Dizziness, brain fog, vision and hearing issues and pain jaw and neck.
What is the best splint to ask for from a dentist as here in Australia very hard to find dentist who knows how to treat TMJ.
I have been in neurological ward hospital because no one knows how to treat my debilitating symptoms.
Should I stop wearing my flat plain splint all together.
