This song describes Peter Murphy the main singer of Bauhaus’s mundane life where he grew up in Northampton in England. He was a book binder for years and he wanted to get out of that monotonous life in there and he did become a legend. Grandfather of goth, we salute you!!
MB Firstly, I've loved this song since the 80s. But, when you actually look at the lyrics, they're about a baker's-dozen long... lol What you're feeling is ALL Peter Murphy's voice, with the perfect nuances of David's bass and Daniel's guitar-effects
When my Mum died, nobody called me. When David Bowie died, everybody called me. The next evening, after the news, my daughter said get dressed, we are going out..and her Dad, my ex husband, a man I’ve barely spoken to in 20 years, except about the kids..arrived and picked us up and took us to a special screening of The Man Who Fell To Earth, and played Bowie all the way into the theatre and back, but we didn’t exchange a word. Anyone who knows me just simply knows that as boring, uninteresting and plain as I am, I exist on the Plane of Bowie. Best friend I ever had.
@Touchdown Bundy There is no definitive proof that Bowie had intercourse with Lori Mattix. All we have heard is her word, which hasn’t been too consistent.
@Touchdown Bundy Where’s your proof? All I know is that Bowie refused to partake in a kissing scene in Labirynth because of the age gap between him and Jennifer Connolly.
It's hard to believe I've been on earth this long not knowing about this song and video. It's really a musical and cinematic masterpiece of epic proportion..

Bauhaus/ Pete Murphy were superb and heavily influenced by Bowie like many artists in the late 70s/ early 80s. I like the idea of this video to the song as I love both artists but theres no real connection.
JOHN PAUL Jones : No real connection? Research what Peter Murphy has to say about Bowie. If you listen to the lyrics it actually fits very well with the film paired with this song here.
Shedonista Shamanatrix Shedonista, I know Murphy was significantly influenced by Bowie (which is obvious anyway) and yes I think the video compliments well. Very beautiful video and song, the comment section perfectly illustrates what I loathe about the world. Actually my preferred way to see this film. This look of this film is extraordinary, thanks to cinematographer Tony Richmond. The dialogue and other aspects of the film are lackluster as compared to the cinematography. Visuals of Bowie by Richmond with great music played over. Gold.
