- Do you love train journeys? So do we! This our first time trying out Thailand’s first class sleeper train and from the start we were super impressed! After 9 months of living In Chiang Mai, we are officially on the move again where we take a 13 hour journey to Bangkok!
We pretty much got very little to no sleep BUT we were so impressed with the quiet and peaceful journey, we highly recommend taking the overnight train instead of the day trip!

I took the same trip in Feb 2012. Chiang Mai overnight first class train to Bangkok and then we went on from there to Hua Hin for a week. It was an amazing trip and I'd do it all again in a heart beat.
The longest journey I have done is a flight from Dubai to Melbourne, which from memory was about 14 hours. I was in economy. It was very uncomfortable. I think having your own cabin is definitely worth it, and a better way from Chiang Mai to Bangkok than driving. As for Bangkok... wow that is a big city with all sorts of exciting options. I love to travel with train too. Last time i took the train from Chiang Mai to Bangkok was November 2018. I took the second class because the first class was full booking. It wasn't private like the first class but i can make a friendship with other traveler. Second Class can transform seat to bed like first class (It's look like "sleepbox hotel"). And lucky to me that i'm a "easy to sleep" person, I sleep since Lampang and wake up again when arrived at Bangkok.

You two are too cute ❤️ We took a train from Bangkok to Surat Thani a few months ago and 1) it wasn't nearly as nice as this 2) it was a 11 hour train ride that turned into 16 hours and 3) the sleeper trains weren't an option at that time 😩 But this video made us want to try one out soon! Wow. Remember those days. I travelled the same route several times by a train in 2010, 2011, 2012. Yeah, 1.class was a nice experience. I travelled by 1.class, 2.class and even 3.class.
Travelling by train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai is very awsome.

I made it from Bangkok to Chiang mai twenty years ago in a more simple train, all the people together with guards. It was nice too!!

I rode on a lower class (not sure which) sleeper-train from the Kanchanaburi area down to Surat Thani I think. No aircon. Super noisy. But wow did I sleep like a baby. There was a window next to my bunk which allowed a breeze to come in. Something about the noise and the rocking of the train. Best sleep I had that whole trip. Depends on the person I guess.

Right before Covid hit I spent a month traveling across Europe mostly by train and yes it does take a little longer than flying but if you have the time it is well worth it. Train travel is so much more relaxing than flying. The seats are much larger and more comfortable and Just being able to get up and stretch any time you want is a joy in itself.
Still cant believe he bought those!😂🙈train travel is so much fun! This was our first one so hopefully we get to do this way more in the future too!🤗

Tried first class once, but found second class better for sleeping because the beds go along the carriage instead of across. Seemed the motion that direction was more conducive to sleeping.

@@ShevandDev ahhhhh! we could only book the old train, kinda nervous now, the new one was all booked up. Going to be hilarious with kids. - Loads of people say the AC is freezing on the old ones, do you happen know if you can alter the temp on the old trains??
Hua Lamphong station will have to close in late of December 2021, I will use the the 1st class to Chiang mai too.

oooh wifi onboard a definete plus even if its low speed , gives you time to send out some emails with pics from the trip
just checked (budget) airline prices and there not that far a part with the night train 1st class tickets
the flight only lasts an hour , theres probably less bagage you can take with you though
if youre on a time limit (like a 10 day / 2 week total holliday) it would give you 24 hours extra for activities other than traveling to and from , so in that case taking the plane might be better
allso checked the flights from there to hongkong china (want to visit shenzhen ) and there shorter duration from chiang mai than flying out of hongkong (not cheaper though)

It may be the last car in Chiangmai, but it reverses in Bangkok, which is preferable to me

You can purchase the tickets online or you can book on the day you arrive or a few days before but we highly recommend booking in advance as the first class cabins sell out quite quickly🤗

Unfortunately they did not, we brought our own just incase 🤗

How tall are you both? My boyfriend had to sleep diagonally with his feet on his luggage on the last sleeper train we did from London to Edinburgh. He won't forgive me for 2 in 2 trips 😅
I (Shev) am quite small haha around 160cm and Dev is around 180cm, We both laughed out loud reading this! Haha Dev feels you boyfriends pain! He just makes it through doors and bumps into walls in small hotel rooms! haha😂😂He will have to stick his feet out through the door on this train 😅

I wonder how much it cost for 1 person on 1st class instead of 2 person. Hopefully, for 1 person I don't have to pay for 2 person. Oh is there wifi on the train?
It is around 1500 baht for one person 🤗although you might have to share the cabin with someone, otherwise you might have to pay for 2 people if you want the private cabin 🙈

In the future, if you travel and transport by train. You are travel and transport higher than the present time because in Thailand have plan and extend railways from 1 track to 2 tracks. Time for Chiangmai 11 to 16 hours change to 6 hours (estimate) to 10 hours and in the future you can travel to northernmost province on North Regional in Thailand (Chiangrai Province by Train after educate railway feasibility since 1887 on King Chulalongkorn (Rama V on Chakri Dynasty and 1959 on King Bhumipol Adunyadej on Rama IX on Chakri Dynasty). 2 tracks to Chiangmai I will be think that start for construct on 2025-2027 and finish on 2030-2034 (Depend on annual government statement of expenditure). Royal Thailand Cabinet support State Railway of Thailand by annual government statement of expenditure. 1 to 2 tracks on North Regional in Thailand in the present will be construct to Nakornsawan or Paknampho is the first for north regional in Thailand (260 kilometers from Bangkok) and it is 1 phases for Thailand Railway project for increase railway efficiency. Nakornsawan to Denchai Junction (In the future this junction connect to Chiangrai Province) and terminal to Chiangmai. 1 st Phase for extend from 1 track to 2 tracks are start rapidly after 2007 A.D. cover every regional in Thailand (North, Northeast, Central, East, West and South).
1st Phase under followings and success for open some part.
North Line Bangkok Railway Station (Hualumpong) to Nakornsawan station
Northeast Line Bangkok to Nakornratchasima and Khonkaen station (Khonkaen Province)
South Line (Pass Central, West and South Region) Bangkok to Nakornprathom and extend to Chumpon station (Chumpon Province).
2st Phase and new line (2023-2034).
North Line from Nakornsawan to Denchai Junction and Denchai Junction to Chaingmai and Chiang Khong Station (In Chiangrai Terminal Railway Station and this line prepare construct and open on 2026).
South Line extend Chumpon to Hatyai, Songkhla and Padangbesar international border passage (Thai and Malaysia).
Northeast Line (Ban Phai Railway Junction to Nakorn Phanom station (3rd Thai Laos Friendship Bridge) in Nakorn Phanom Province where locate Nearest Thai and Laos international border passage) and Extend from Khonkaen station to Nongkhai Station and you can travel and connect to Vientiane Laos capital.

Really good experience before Hua lamphong will have to close in late od December 2021 and they will move to Bangsua grand station. So sad and I will use it before it's no more service from Hua lamphong. 😭
Ah yes that is the last stop and it was really convenient for us! Bang sua is also a really nice station 😍
