Would love to see an update of this vid for 2024. I bet you've learned a lot more on this since this was first posted. Either way THANK YOU for this and many other great tutorials on your channel.
You r just aweso....i was litterly noob in tNice tutorials...u explained it very simply...thanks i will surely go for next parts of tNice tutorials video.. thanks
I'm new to Davinci Resolve, but already in love with it after two days. This 3D mapping seems like something I could use to bump map space nebulas for a music video I'd like to make.
Well as an architect, i can tell you that one you have this 3D map, you can easily slice it to have topography map and have useful informations of any site you want, so it's reaaaaally useful !
Epic tutorial! If possible I would like to see a merge of this one with your other more recent video "Travel Map in DaVinci Resolve". Basically, a flying camera over this map, while tracking an animated line on the ground. This would be ideal for trail runners or hikers to show case their runs/hikes. Thanks!
It's been long since I've been so happy that a recommended video is actually cool and useful. I thought about doing something like this but had absolutely no clue where to even start. I always thought DaVinci is extremely hard to use (well, it still may well be), so I ditched my idea very quickly. Judging by the video, I could achieve this in an hour with some careful works as a beginner, thanks a lot for the idea and the great editing (bringing the camera transparency down is an awesome touch, many forget that!). Thanks, keep up the awesome work!
clicked on. Very detailed and to the point, thank you so much for tNice tutorials! I subscribed and I look forward to watcNice tutorialng and learning more about
UAU !!! This is super next level !!! You are the man !!! All your videos are very helpful and useful. I have been learning a lot !!! Thank you very much Jay !!!
I like the tracking capability you demoed. I'll have to play with this one and send a link to a finished product. Thank you and keep up the great work!
Damn. Nice job. I realy couldn't find a proper tutorial explaining everytNice tutorialng you needed clearly but then i found tNice tutorials treasure of a video.
Excellent video. A use case you didn't mention: Unreal games need background terrain requiring heightmaps and 3D. That's what brought me to your video. Check it out.
Not sure if it helps, but the downloadable Google Earth, not chrome one, allows a 4800x2500 resolution clean image download. Great vid, I just wish there was higher detail on the height maps...Google earth has amazing detail even on the 3D stuff...if only one could turn it to a 3D model...maybe if one could auto orbit a section and photo scan that with another program...
In Chrome an extension is no longer needed for a full-page screenshot, just press F12, then Ctrl+Shift+P, then type "screen" and pick the "Capture full-size screenshot". You might not want to cover Maps copyright notice in the bottom-right in your videos as that's against the Maps data usage policy.
Very cool! Lots of possiblities for this to make accurate real world 3D maps, or to make your own fantasy world 3D maps using custom created grayscale images for the elevations. Could make giant faces on Mars... Recreate Stone Henge or the pryamids in 3D...
Great work. The displacement3D node is exactly what I need to work with my depthmattes as I don't have Studio with camera tracker yet. There are many other sites that provide 3D data like mattes from LIDAR data up to 35cm/pixel and others that output a textured 3D model with proper height scaling directly for 3D printing purposes... You may just want to read a few of the many tutorials on how to make a 3D printed topography map and find what website works for video best and makes the data gathering easier.
I wonder if this would be cool for 3D travel tracking e.g. riding, running, driving etc? It might be a little overkill since there seems like there are other ways to do it but this is easily the highest resolution I've seen for this style
This is dope! I'm working on a travel video of mine and I would combine this tutorial with your "Draw a path on a map" tutorial in your channel to draw the route on a 3D map. Another thing I will do is maybe show how the direction of light changes a landscape and why the time your at a location matters (I'm teaching landscape photography). I think I have to get a more powerful workstation 😅
Looks pretty cool, but the hardest part is to match satellite imagery and elevation model. There are other sources of data, actually. For example, medium resolution images from Sentinel 2 satellite (and there are plenty of TH-cam guides how to download it) and AW3D30 (also freely available) digital elevation model that has visibly better detail level than SRTM. However, with no experience with GIS systems, it will take some time to figure out how to crop both sources of information to the same geographic boundary.

See my top-level comment for a simple way to get the the maps to line up perfectly.
@, referring to a specific comment on TH-cam is almost impossible since it arranges it in its own way for everyone. So, I can't find yours. Personally, I know how to do that using GIS tools (say, GDAL/OGR library, QGIS, gvSIG, GlobalMapper).
Hey JayAre, is it possible to create a fire/flame, rain, and lightning effects in Fusion? If so, could you make a tutorial about it? Your videos are so educational, you are the #1 Davinci Resolve Teacher in TH-cam! Thanks

One of the most impressive demonstrations I've seen in a long time. Only wish I'd encountered it 18 months ago. Very well done and thanks for sharing.
Best soft soft tutorial for beginners on TH-cam! I'm an absolute beginner and all the other tutorials I've found on TH-cam have been so

It's insanely interesting and very useful. Used it to show the location of the site with a nice demonstration of the terrain.
This guy knows so much about resolve I suspect him as a major developer of the software
Well as an architect, i can tell you that one you have this 3D map, you can easily slice it to have topography map and have useful informations of any site you want, so it's reaaaaally useful !
Great one. Cool look, interesting hacks, and funny too.

I don't even need to make a 3d map yet but these are so educational. Thank you.
will be a fantastic journey!
This is so great Jay ! So helpful...
I'll never use this myself but that's some damn sci-fi-dream-stuff right there! Very impressive!

I thought live 3d mapping can be done only in blender but davinci amazed me ❤❤
I feel 10x more confident in soft soft, thanks!
Very cool. Take it to the next level as an effect like the holographic map from Avatar.
Cool stuff Jay!
Cool. I didn't know you can do this with the Davinci Resolve.

Gonna use this for a geology video. Thanks!
to! Can’t wait to buy it, and getting startet!
Impressive work. I'm just began learning Davinci.
I have the perfect use for this. Thank you! I’m one week into DaVinci though, so I’m still slow at it.
Amazing video bro. Could you make a video around the best Reaktor effects? Keep up the great work

Great idea and a great video. I've definitely got a use for this. Thanks.
Many thanks! This is the answer to problems I’d been having for so long. Really neat tutorial as well.
Very cool Jay! Complicated but cool. I'm doing flying films and it could be a great way of showing the area of the action.
This is simply awesome and you make it so simple.
good job! i bet you are great at making s! good luck
Bro, you're a great teacher and explainer! Thank you for tNice tutorials tutorial!

When you showed that sky-island like tracked model i was like "WOOOOOOOW"
Good tutorial, although i'll never use it with my toaster xD
that was so use full! !
Blakk Bee Mac version seems to have so better support for certain midi devices. And not using the ASIO drivers has a lot to do with
We used to do this for placing mats on Bryce & poser objects many moons ago. All fun

DUDE, I got so frustrated 'cause of that problem, thanks a lot!
Wow, you hit it out of the park... Now I am just left looking for a way to use it.
Where did you get the brains to think of doing this? Totally genius!
Lol. Random stuff happens when you fall asleep to a TH-cam playlist full of space documentaries.
YES! I LOVE YOU!
Excellent content... subd!!
