    Straight to the point no flashy intros no reguritated specs that can be easily read on a product page. Simple clear demonstration. New sub from me.

      @@RussellPlatten before you go though, I got a cordless bootleg Dremel, not to say it's a fake dremel but, it's not the same brand but, it looks just like it, what attachments do you think I should have I'll be working mainly on woods and metals, stones not really and maybe eventually carbon but, plastic materials and woods for sure.

    • @RussellPlatten
      @RussellPlatten  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Sir-Kay I would get all of the basics first. Sanding drums of different sizes, a cheap set of router bits and a cheap set of tungsten carbide rotary files. There are links in the video description to give you an idea of what to look for. I think a flex-shaft is very useful too. My advice would be to think carefully about what project you want to start off with and just buy what you need for that. You can always add to your bits and attachments as and when needed. Good luck with your new hobby! :-)

    This was possibly one of the most informative videos I've watched on TH-cam. It was exactly what i needed to know about the plunge tool as im just just starting out with making all manner of things and wanted to make a personlised cutting board for my brother as a Christmas present and wondered if this would be suitable to router out some lettering using a 3d printed as a guide as a guide.

    • @RussellPlatten

      It is certainly capable of that, but it is difficult to get an acceptable result working freehand without lots of practice Shane. :-)

    This is such a well done review! You took the time to make long cuts and actually assembled a product from the demonstration, all the while giving an honest review of the product. It's a great "hobbiest" or hobby level tool, but don't expect industrial level results. I'm paraphrasing, but that's basically the sentiment. Thank you, sir, for such a well thought out production. This tool will be perfect for the application I had in mind, I'll purchase one soon.

Very informative and for me, who is not a woodworker (yet at least, haha) it is very nice with a down to Earth approach to tool reviews and just simply showing and explaining in an easy way the possibilities and obstacles a certain tool may bring. Thank you! (Also, totally off topic, but your accent and voice are very easy on the ears as well).

    I love this tool! I have used it for over a year and it has never disappointed me. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxfPgcZ5_Cl0HDUKkMJAKde11YKQZVgMoR As long as you remember it is a battery tool and not intended to do continuous heavy work (I have a corded tools for that), it will give you great service for quickie jobs. I get long use out of the batteries and just watch my charge levels, and have yet to use an entire charge on one project. I would also highly recommend the keyless chuck which I also find very useful. Today I cut nine heavy wires on a piece of concrete wire mesh which is used for a garden trellis with a cut-off disk and then used a grindstone to smooth the edges. I tried first to use one of my heavy-duty 20v lithium grinders/cut-off tools and it was just too hard to control the tool on the wires and get good close edges, so I switched to the Dremel and had no problem. It was so much easier to control to get nice flush cuts.

    For only $25 on Amazon it's a steal. Highly recommend.

    According to the included instructions, the depth stop nuts allow for setting two depth stop positions. The setting procedure is like this: with the router off (obviously), back off both depth stop nuts, loosen the locking hand grip, lower the router until the bit just touches the workpiece, lock the hand grip, screw the the depth stop until it touches the base, this is the 0 point. Unscrew the depth stop for the desired first depth of cut (1 turn = 1.5 mm), then gently tighten the upper depth stop nut. This is the first setting. Unscrew the depth stop more, making sure the upper nut turns with it, until you reach the desired second depth of cut, then gently tighten the lower nut. This is the second setting. To change between the settings, just press the unlocking button to the side of the depth stop, and slide it up or down as far as the setting nuts allow. The feature can be handy, although I suppose it's quite possibly to disturb the setting by inadvertently turning the adjusting nuts. Perhaps it would be nice to have an additional locknut for each of the adjusting nuts.

    Great demo Russell. Plain speaking and to the point, just what I like. Next time, lower the volume on that 3x, jeez, had headphones on and nearly jumped through the ceiling!

      Best regards from the UK Dieter. I have had a look on the Dremel website and the 300 is not on the list of compatible models. So I am not sure if ir will fit. www.dremel.com/gb/en/p/dremel-plunge-router-attachment-335-v225 :-)

    Glad I watched this. I'm planning on routing some custom guitar pickup cavities and I think my normal router is a bit too powerful for small delicate cuts, so this seems to be just the trick for it. Cheers from New Mexico USA and keep well.

    This is the first favorible video for this plunge base that I have found. Many of the Amazon reviewers were less than thrilled, as well. The nature of the complaints is that it is almost all plastic, wobbly and inprecise. Inability to maintain constant depth was a common complaint. I believe I could even see the posts wobbling as you plunged it. One reviewer said "Even too sloppy for hobby work" the Dremel bits are just steel and can burn up in hardwood so you may need to invest in a set of 1/8" shank carbide bits. Stew Mac and Veritas make some really nice metal plunge bases for Dremel and other rotary tools that have the 3/4-12 thread on the front but they are much more expensive. I was hoping to get by for cheap but the consensus is that this base is not worth the money.

      It is a cheap router base Jeffrey. I would never expect a precision accessory for the money I paid when I bought it. The post was loose on mine and after I finished the review I saw it and tightened it. It is possible to produce acceptable results with ease for very little outlay and for beginners it is a much better option then spending three times as much for a dedicated router and bits. :-)

    very good tutorial, best i've seen so far on the Dremel. The other one that I had seen is from a Dutch chap? as soon as I had read the subtitles I had missed the demonstration :) I will purchase one now. Thank you
