We drove 6 hours to get directly under the total solar eclipse that was over the US about 4 years ago (I don't recall the specific year). It was impressive. The breeze died down and the birds quit chirping during the period of maximum darkness. Another 6 hours to get home but unquestionably worth the effort. Thank you for the information. My family own a resort in central Utah. We noticed a lot of people booking lodging for October 14. After some research we found out we are right in the path of the 2023 eclipse. Your information is really helpful as we try to make that day memorable for people staying with us.
Glad it helped! I’ll be the Eclipse Expert for Capitol Reef National Park doing a lot of education and eclipse programming. Look into projection viewing. I am hoping to slap together a quick video on it, but my wife and I are thru-hiking the Continental Divide Trail right now, so video work has less than a 1% chance of happening.
Albuquerque will be having it's Annual Balloon Festival during this eclipse. This should make for quite a spectacle with all the colorful balloons rising while the Sun/Moon show takes place with the city at complete totality relative to this event. See you there!
The light changes character near annularity, but it never gets that dark. What I’ve heard fun stories of is the partial eclipse in-progress over the ocean at sunset. It looks like giant glowing horns sinking into the sea!

They will be sparse when the time is nigh.
100% agree about solar filters and eclipse glasses! National Parks will be harder to navigate than cities because they aren’t design for high traffic. Best approach is to arrive at your site for the day early, pack a picnic and relax for the afternoon while the traffic clears a bit. Leaving the next day always makes a huge difference, too.
Thanks for the feedback, Jackie. I'll turn the gain up on the microphone on future recordings. Quite a few up-coming videos have already been recorded so you'll notice the difference intermittently.
@@TotalityTown another technique to make sure that you don’t end up clipping the audio is to just record at your normal level and then in post processing “normalize“ the audio. This makes it as loud as it possibly can be without clipping the signal

Please explain why the shadow of the total eclipse is only 70 miles wide when the moon is 1/4 the size of earth, according to the laws of physics a shadow can never decrease in size.
Sorry for the delayed reply. Life's been crazy recently. The size of a shadow is related to the distances involved. The Moon's orbit around Earth is elliptical so sometimes they are closer to each other than at other times. If you look at the angles and the distances, the math works out; everything balances out such that the Moon's shadow can reach all the way to Earth's surface. I say "can" because there are times when the Moon is far enough away that its shadow does not reach all the way to Earth's surface. Those are the times at which an annular solar eclipse is possible. Hope this explanation helps!
Depends on your location within the path. If you are on the centerline then the Moon should be dead-center at the peak of the eclipse. It will be off-center if you are off the centerline.
Yes I posted a comment about that. It should have been mentioned in the video since this is an annular eclipse not a total eclipse like the one in August 2017 and the upcoming one in April 2024.
Why is it your map of the event at the beginning of the video is completely different than the one you show in the second half of the video? Doesn't seem like good information to me 🥴

There were three considerations you failed to mention. First and most important is eye protection. Since the sun will not be completely covered by the moon one should not look directly at the eclipse without eye protection (such as eclipse glasses). This is even more important if one plans to use a telescope. Looking at the sun through a telescope without a properly designed solar filter securely mounted to the front of the telescope could result in immediate blindness. Second you seemed to favor a city location to view the eclipse. While there are more people in cities to view the eclipse there may be obstacles like buildings blocking the view. A park would be better (assuming there were no trees nearby). Finally you didn't discuss weather. It would be a good idea to check the weather forecast along the eclipse path to find a location with the best chance of clear skies.
