I'm 44, started playing video games around 5 years old with the Coleco Vision...I'm still playing today, and I'm creating video games for a living. Life is great.

I was born in '87 and grew up with NES and Genesis. My grandfather was an avid gamer at that time. It was the main hobby of his retirement. He loved RPGs like Dragon Warrior, Final Fantasy, and Shining Force, and would make handmade guides and maps for all of his games. After he passed away, all of his games and guides went to me, and playing those games using his guides is very special to me.

I’m a retired soldier/ stay at home dad in my 40’s. I have the money to buy what I want and time to play and now my kid has grown up playing multiplayer with me. It’s awesome.

While I'm older with more responsibilities and a job that keeps me on the road alot, I still find time for gaming and gaming collecting. It's my therapy at this point.

I just wanted to say: I am from the „younger generation“ my childhood console was the wii, and people like you have inspired me, and now I’m getting a CRT!

I'm 38 and here's my opinion on this; the best time to be playing games is the present, because you can play new amazing games on amazing systems, like my steam deck, but also I get to play older games on the same device. Now, a lot of the magic that came with playing retro games is gone or can't be recaptured, but it's like that during every era. I'm not going to be able to recapture the magic of the present in 10 years just like I have amazing nostalgic memories of 10 years ago in my late twenties with my games. So, when it comes to games, I never want to go back in time for any reason other than nostalgia or to relive the past.

Playing games as a kid was great but when I was a teen, it became my world!

I enjoyed video games all of my life, but I would have to say my favorite gaming age was my late teens. I was fresh out of high school and working for myself, along with my older brother.

I would say between the ages of 8-14 were the best times. Pretty much all of my favorite games are ones I played during that time. Not only was there no guilt (even if I was doing bad in school I just didn't care, having fun was all that mattered) but also gaming was so exciting then because each new generation was a crazy big step up from the last one. Super Metroid, Chrono Trigger, Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto 3, etc. Even on the same console games made huge leaps- look at Final Fantasy VII compared to IX. I still love playing new games but I don't think it will ever be as exciting as it was back then.

I just beat ET on the Atari at age 51 because I never did. I had not seriously played it since I was 11 or 12. So yeah, I’m better now. But I think my best years were around 19 or 20 when I could buy any game I wanted, play as much as I wanted, had all the focus I needed, and fully comprehend gameplay after reading a manual. Great topic!

I look fondly back on my college years, oddly enough. I had enough free time to beat games as I could afford them. Those were the days...

The years right before puberty was the best for gaming. For me, this was the early 16 bit era and good games were everywhere. All my friends had different games and gaming was all we cared about.

My teenage years were definitely my best years of gaming. The SNES, PS1 and N64 eras were glorious! Later in life, the Xbox 360 was also an amazing time to game with friends online and I put hundreds of hours into gaming with buddies online. Nowadays, I'm tired and games are so epic that I mostly stick with retro games and simple, fun games.

The best was when I was circa 13 years old, I already had my Nintendo 64 (which is my favorite console) but I played a lot of other consoles at my local video game rental store. My father also did freelance work for Playtronic/Gradiente (Nintendo distributors in Brazil at the time) and I had early access to a couple of N64 games too. That was a great time!

I really can’t imagine the best time I had gaming in my life. I’m 46, I’ve been playing since I had my Intellivision II and even though older people than me and some of my colleges thinks I’m too old, I will never stop playing.. ever. Every decade of my life I have fond gaming memories. I guess it’s the people I played with that really separate them because those people don’t play the same games I do anymore. But when we did play together every night it was a blast!!! Now a days and since I started my retro gaming revolution here at home… it’s a whole new world of games I never played before and it’s awesome! Just to experience a DMG gamboy in my hand playing Tetris is amazing!!

Shout out to the Dynamite Headdy footage, sorely underappreciated classic. For me I think there's lots of great times to play games throughout your life, just depends on mindset. The month Elden Ring came out I'm unsure if I played more of it or worked (lucky my wife understands who she married), also playing through retro coop games with my wife is a blast (take that mom, I've got another gaming buddy now).
