Great to hear! For awhile I was posting post game videos where i discussed interesting things that happened during each session, but my schedule has been so busy I have had to put those on hold.
I've blundered my way through roll20 (without darkvision) to learn enough to DM if I ever find any friends. But I am still going to subscribe, watch and like each of these videos because A) I'm learning even moar and B) They're hilarious. Roll20 and WOTC should be sending you royalty checks. Thank you!

global modifiers open up a lot of opportunities and they stack.
I love rolling stats, it is my preffered method because it's so fun to work with what you get. Balance be damned, it is FUN and my table likes fun :D

@@CrashGem LOL, I won't pretend it hasn't caused balancing issues, but idk. My first ever DND game I played in, we rolled stats and the thrill of what that would be was just SO damn fun. If my players hated it, I'd go for point buy but they love the thrill of possibly rolling dog-crap!

when doing abilities i only get the custom option. Is this because I only have the free version?
You have AMAZING tutorials! Question for you, in the Charactermancer I only have "Input your scores". What is the add-on you use to do roll, point buy, standard. Thank you!

I'd love to get a warning that charactermancer is valuable for D&D only, for example.
As a GM who plays another system, I don't know how much I need this information.
Apologies, I think in the first video I mention things in this series are focused on 5e D&D. Ideally an canned intro and outro would have been good for these videos, but at the time (early pandemic) I was just pouring my heart out to help people continue their F2F games online. I will say this, if you are planning to play Pathfinder 2e, just use FVTT, the integration for PF2e in FVTT is phenomenal.
@@CrashGem I'm planning to GM FATE Core, and most of the videos in the series are useful. This one is the only exception and I couldn't have known this in any way.

Great stuff thank you. Question: do you still use the Roll20 character sheets or the DnDbeyond VTT sheets these days?
These days... I use Foundry VTT
But why doesn't my new character have a character sheet tab?? I'm so confused. A new character is only coming up with the Bio & Info tab and the Attributes & Abilities tab... what am I missing???
You have to hit the blue button at the bottom "Save Changes" and character sheet will unlock.

17:09 I just want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly, but the regular stat rolls and the save rolls, you only take the number on the left? The number on the right is the one that's auto-rolled with advantage? So like if you rolled a str check on that dulcimer (which I'm assuming is a drum, but irrelevant) the 5 and the 22 at 19:43 is referring purely to the dice rolls PLUS your...performance or proficiency bonus number? (I'm wondering what bonus it's getting for the 22).
when you have always roll advantage/disadvantage turned on, you always roll 2 dice even if you do not need them. If you don't need the second roll, you ignore the right hand value.
The Dulcimer was rolled using strength (+1) and proficiency (+2) so the two rolls were a 2 and a 19.
i worked on my character sheet and it turned around and gave me negatives across the board. i think i may have done something wrong
When he created a character, it was created in a Character folder that wasn't there. What am I missing? Your videos are a great help. Thank you.
When he? Is he your GM? A GM is the only one who can make a character unless you are using the welcome package API script (or something similar). Even after creating a character sheet for someone you have to make sure they can see it and edit it, two different drop down boxes under the edit section.

Oh! I never really thought about that. Honestly not sure why it made me a character folder. If roll20 does not create such a folder for you, or does not stick the the sheet into a preexisting folder, the sheet will show up at the top of the asset list in the journal tab. You can create folders and drag assets into them including folders into folders.

Hey man, thanks for the videos. Question - any reason why I don't have "roll for stats" just custom on Charactermancer?
I don't think rolling for stats is a feature of roll20 yet.
Use this:
&{template:default} {{name= Ability Scores}} {{[[4d6kh3]][[4d6kh3]][[4d6kh3]][[4d6kh3]][[4d6kh3]][[4d6kh3]]}}
If you paste this into the roll20 chat it'll automatically roll all your stats for you with 4d6 drop the lowest.

Great video, but I have one question. How do you do a multiclass?
Multiclassing options are built into the charactermancer. Just choose a different class when it is time to level up.
I think you have to activate that feature that roll20 automatically reduces spell slots for you in the settings tab (Ammo tracking is off)
Spell slot tracking needs to be enabled with the API script "5th Edition OGL" by roll20.
So, Im making an aasimar paladin and my spells tab looks way different compared to yours. I only have the info tab on the right. on the left it says that Im an aasimar, and then protector aasimar cantrips. below that it says light twice. have I done anything wrong or am I just being dumb or something?? I just cant find out how to select one
It could be a compendium/charactermancer issue. Charactermancer will only populate options for materials you have unlocked. Sometimes with charactermancer you might have to skip a section if it is bugging out for you and just manually adjust in your character sheet. This happens a lot for feats.
i messed up and didn’t click the charactermancer at the beginning.. is there any way i can gain access to it again? or do i have to restart
You should be able to change settings for that after building the world/server. Just log out and go to settings.
Go to the Game Settings page and click the drop-down for Default Sheet Settings.
Find the setting marked "Use Level 1 Charactermancer for New Characters" and select "Yes."
Scroll to the bottom of the Game Settings page and click "Save Changes".
Great video! Just wondering something, though. Say you want to GM but also play a PC with the party. How would you do that in roll20 without using the restart as player option?
GM has full control of everything. If you need to “see the world like a PC” select a mini and hit CTRL+L you can now move and see as if you were a player with control of that mini.

Subscribed! I'm just starting to build my own campaign settings on Roll20...AAANNNDDD...I'm a new 5e player/DM. What books do you recommend (at a minimum) for a solid 5e foundation in Roll20?
minimum: PHB. If you want to treat yourself: monster manuals. If you want to treat your players: Xanathar's. Find a set of token markers you like, they make tracking combat much easier. This video explains how compendium sharing works: th-cam.com/video/fIM-4LG96l8/w-d-xo.html

Is Charatermancer included in the free version? If I do buy premium version is includes? Can you manually import character abilities? Thanks for doing this. My friends and I are all pushing 60. We are taking the leap from 1st and 2nd edition D&D to 5E. Our first gaming session was August 1978. LOL.
Charactermancer is free, should pop up as an option when you create a new character. I don't know about the importing thing, I'm trying to learn myself.
You can "manually" import by copy and pasting into the correct fields. You will only have access to content you buy from Roll20, NOT DNDBeyond, be mindful of that. Roll20 can be pricey, you wind up buying 5e stuff up to 3 times. Print, DNDBeyond, and then Roll20. That's why i encourage DMs to collect dues from players to lighten the load a bit.
While charactermancer is free, the content it accesses is not. Is the short answer.
Do you have a tutorial for Pathfinder? I'm trying make a bloodrager and I can't get the bloodrager to work under buffs.
I do not. About 2 years ago I quit all my other tabletop system to focus on 5e exclusively. Helps me keep the rules straight in my head.
@@CrashGem aww okay, do you know of any ways to keep track how many rounds a spell is in 5e? I'm currently running a game and trying to out all the spells in and keep track of their duration is a pain.

does anyone know why when I follow every one of these steps and i roll thunderwave from my char sheet at lvl 1 which is 2d8 it rolls 4d8 but only counts two of them?
Visually it is rolling 4 of them? Or does the chat read out show it rolling 4 and dropping 2? Because visually 3D dice can be a mess sometimes.
is there a way to add weight to custom equipment?
its not required anymore i just modified chainmail to work for now
There used to be. I just logged in to check and no longer see the option. Very weird.
@@CrashGem i found it after the fact, you just have to click where weight should be...
due to roll 20's innovative choice of white on white on white the box was nearly invisible, and also under the option button for the item so its also a pain to click
@@CrashGem just did the same. you can but it is hard to click the almost unseeable box... if you slowly get further from the options button you'll eventually click it.
really hope they move the options thing so it wont be in the way anymore though

When I am at the abilities tab, I have only one option "Custom". I cannot point buy or opt for the standard spread. Do you know why this is?

Ben did you get a sôlution for this one as I also get just the custom option in the Ability Score Method drop down ? Of course I could use Custom and do it manually but why is it not available? I downloaded the Essential Kit do I need to load something else to get it?
What's with the "number".13 in inititiative, I get the same thing... Why can't it be round?
ok, I found out. For some reason, DEX tiebreaker will add ".something" to your initiative. You have to uncheck it to get your regular initiative score back.
Correct. Most of my players live and die by tie breaker so for me it's just a standard setting nowadays.

Money. The more products you purchase through Roll20, the more robust your charactermancer becomes.
man I would LOVE to use charactermancer but the world I run (and publish) Arcanis uses a LOT of custom classes and the only core race they have is Human.... never mind all the custom feats we had to make because there is only one OGL feat. I wish they would come up with a way to create your own companion or supplemental companions.
Well there is some good news. If your game is extremely custom you can create a custom character sheet, though I have not had a reason to look into this.
Also, charactermancer does work with custom content (races, classes, backgrounds)!!

14:59 Slightly off-topic: I thought vicious mockery was supposed to be your bread and butter damage ability for like the first 4 levels? It's all I see anybody talking about and none of that talk has been negative. Please enlighten nooby me.
Most stuff in the game has decent wisdom saving throws. Vicious Mockery often fails to land in my experience. If you are trying to cause damage consistently, there are better ways to do it.

For me the ability to roll for stats and points and standard array aren't there where do I activate this feature for my players??
I am not sure. When I was using Roll20, we would use a point-buy generator site to handle stats, I never allow rolling for individual stats.
