    I've been playing on roll20 for a year now but I just started DMing a roll20 campaign and your tutorials are absolute must-haves! Thanks so much for doing all of them and for being so thorough and precise! I've watched a lot of tutorial videos but no one covers as much as you do in organized, easy to understand form. None of this is outdated either, even with the updated dynamic lighting. It's still all relevant info, just a slightly different layout on the properties tabs. Thanks again!

      You are welcome. Yea, I was worried new lighting would render the tutorials useless, but honestly, they just moved a few things around, and currently, you can still opt to just use the legacy lighting.

    I noticed the cones are all 90 degrees. But cone effects in 5e are not. The distance from the caster is equal to the width of the cone at that point. This works out to a cone of 53 degrees. I think earlier editions of D&D used the 90 degree ones.

    • @CrashGem
      @CrashGem  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      True... I have gotten away with using these thus far because they look cool. A great pack of pre-made templates is available in the marketplace that uses more appropriate 5e sizing: marketplace.roll20.net/browse/gameaddon/460/area-of-effect-template-pack

    Can you link spell effect templates to a Character/NPC token. For example, if someone casts Spiritual Guardians and then moves across the battlefield, can we link the character's token to the template instance so that both move together?

    • @CrashGem
      @CrashGem  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically, yes. Practically, not really. You can group tokens together, (drag select, right click group tokens) but they drift apart very easily and cause the tokens to break through dynamic lighting barriers. There might be some API scripts that fix these issues, but I don't know of any offhand.

    • @wellering89
      @wellering89 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      if the creator of the game has a pro subscription on roll20, they can add the API script "Carry Tokens" which allows you to do just this. It is part of roll20's script library and can be installed to any game with just a few clicks.

  • @Druidofeden
    @Druidofeden 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    how did you make the sleep art start in the background, like behind the characters? i'm trying to make spell tokens but they constantly start in the foreground as all tokens do when you first put them on the map.

    • @CrashGem
      @CrashGem  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think this might have been a fluke or trick of the way it recorded, because anything new always defaults to the top of the layer. You end up having to right click, move to back templates like this.

  • @psibernight2177
    @psibernight2177 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Tried this several times but Roll20 continuously resized the fireball the token down making it very frustrating. Any idea why?

    • @CrashGem
      @CrashGem  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to re-register the token after any changes, including the size. Make the template the size you want and then register it again with the associated npc character sheet.

    • @psibernight2177
      @psibernight2177 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CrashGem It seem to work when I did it on the map layer. Is there a size limit to the token size?

    • @CrashGem
      @CrashGem  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@psibernight2177 That is likely a coincidence. I haven't tested a token say, 100 by 100, but I have some tremendously big spell tokens, including entire rooms and 60 foot and 90 foot cones. It is very easy to forget to re-register your tokens, that's almost certainly what happened here.

    • @CrashGem
      @CrashGem  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      With a pro account you gain access to a feature called Transmog. It allows you to move content from one campaign to another, including any character sheets and linked tokens you have made. If you run more than one roll20 game I strongly encourage gaining access Transmog, it is very useful.

    • @CrashGem
      @CrashGem  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh as a player you’d have to use character vault. It’s way more cumbersome than transmog but it will let you move over tokens you have made as a player.

  • @DefaultProphet
    @DefaultProphet 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    When I select something for a token it defaults to a medium(one cell) creature size 99/100 times. Any tricks to get it to work?

    • @CrashGem
      @CrashGem  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When you select? So, when you first drag an asset into Roll20 from your computer, it normally imports at the original resolution, this is usually too big. If you drag something in from the library, and you have a grid turned on, it will shrink down to be 1x1 grid, which is usually too small. To prevent this you can work on the GM layer, or hold ALT while you drag in the asset from your library. Once a token is sized, if you register it to a sheet at that size it will always drag in at the size you registered it at. So once built correctly my fireball will be 20' radius every time I drag one out.
