In Norse it is Sigurd, it's debated whether they were the same person or not because their stories are different slightly, but both face of against evil dragons named fafnir. I think Trace’s name might also have to do with how it sounds like most English speakers pronounce the number 3 in Spanish. You know, “uno, dos, tres”. That’s because he is the third Kanto rival (1st and 2nd being Blue and Green).
Actually, the name Lockstin has a much more interesting etymology. It's combined from "loque", which is an obscure language's word for human, and "stihn", which is from a totally real language and means "more or less looks the same". This is fitting as Lockstin appears to be a human.

Fun fact! Lance's name could also be a nod to the "Lancer" trope. It's basically a character in a story who serves as a direct opposite of the hero, who usually has a friend-rival relationship with said hero. The lancer is the ice to the hero's fire, and usually fights the hero to teach them something or to make the hero realize there's various ways to achieve the greater good.
I always go with the name “Red-Ice” for my gamer tags. It was based off of one my RPG characters that had Red Eyes, and he came with this set with Red Gems. After using it for a while, I realized it was the perfect “cold-blooded” metaphor, and now that’s the name I give my Mega Sableye.
Siebold's name, being Germanic, is pronounced like see-bold. German's second vowel is the one pronounced in this scenario. So he literally is Sea Bold.
That's one reason I liked studying German in school, the pronunciation and spelling of ie and ei were consistent. None of that "i before e except after c" nonsense.
@@rockinrootbeer1795 I hate english too..letters make many different sounds for many different words even though they have NO reason to sound different. The Hoenn names are funny in french. Pheobe is Spectra. And the Ghost Type is "Type Spectre" in french. Glacia is still Glacia, but Ice Type is "Type Glace" in french. And Steven Stone is Pierre Rochard. Pierre is a common french name. And a common word that means "stone" or "rock". And Rochard is from "Roche", which also means "rock". So we don't have any Steel in his name, just Rock two times. And so he shares his first name with Brock, which is called Pierre in french.

For a bit of extra stuff for Lance that is most certainly coincidental: in group dynamics within stories, the character that is most closely connected to the head of the group while still playing second fiddle is called the Lancer (Vegeta is a perfect example). You what the Lancer equivalent is called on the villains side? The Dragon.
Faba is named after the faba bean, _Vicia faba_ , which is a behind-the-scenes reason as to where his glasses come from. unfortunately, I have yet to figure out what the bean's connection to the psychic type is
An extra Leon connection via Lion. Lions are used in the heraldry of both England and Scotland, as well as representing England in the UKs' coat of arms.
Nah, that completely goes against his character arc. Guzma exists as commentary on punk culture, and the notion that not every one gets to be successful in life. Guzma is one of those people who let his frustrations get the better of him, becoming the king delinquent we all love. For him to actually get a spot in such a high up, esteemed organisation kind of spits on that. It suggests “nah, everyone does well in the end” which isn’t what guzma is trying to convey as an idea. Plus I really do think he would reject the offer out of spite, seeing it as some sort of pity or insult.
@@reginlief1 Not to mention in the anime he was largely against the league only wanting to win so he could shut the whole thing down..not to be the leader of Alola..He didn't like the gym challenge and didn't like the league as it stood against what he stands for. But if they did offer him the position I agree with you about everything and that he'd reject it spitting in their faces before leaving.
I'd like to say that the spanish name of Siebold is "Narciso", like the man of the greek myth that ended up drowned by seeing his reflection in a lake, relating him with his water type. Also "Narciso" is the name of a blue flower.

If I had a nickel for every time an Elite Four member shared their named with a champion from League Of Legends, I would have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that that happened twice.
I feel like the elite four of sinnoh are mostly self-explanatory. Aaron is a kid name a bug catcher might have, bertha males me think of the phrase "Big Bertha" which describes something big, tough, or powerful. Y'know, like ground types. Flint, well, what does flint do? It sparks, it SEEMS like fire, but isn't. Flint talks all the time about blazing passions and fiery determination but only one of his pokemon knows a fire type attack, the one that comes out first. That sparks the conflict. Will? Well, he has the WILL power of working with psychic types.
Diantha's etemology makes sense as is, but still... What about how it sounds like Diana? You know, the Roman goddess of the MOON, a thing very prevalent in the lore of Fairy-types? Of which she clearly has a connection with? Though that might be to a lesser degree as Fairy might not be her "speacialty type". The fact remains, it is clear to see that was part of their intention considering her ace is a Mega Gardevoir. How did he miss that?!
I just realized that Cynthia wears black clothes because her name is associated with moon, which mostly appears at nighttime(So black clothes). Color of moon during nighttime is usually bright yellow/golden, which is(or at least similar to) Cynthia's hair color. Cynthia is literally Nighttime personified in a sense. There is also Cyrus, whose name is associated with Sun. His team members wear white clothes. The sun emits all colors of rainbow(more or less) evenly and if I remember my physics correctly, then the combination of those colors is white. Cyrus's hair is blue, the color of sky during daytime. Yeah, all of this might be a bit of stretch but considering the amount of effort that gamefreak puts in designing characters and Pokemons, it might be true. Now, if all of this is true, imagine Cynthia with blue hair (based on blue moon) and Cyrus with Yellow/Orange(the colors associated with Sun) hair or Coat/Jacket thing he wears. That would be a sight to see
also, blue and blonde are (kinda) opposites, especially if you put them thru negative filter (I recommend seeing the negative picture of Marinette and Adrien from Miraculous Ladybug, as their hair and clothes are meant to be opposites/compliments of each other)

PS Drake also means dragon in Swedish.
I've never been this early, totally worth it though! Great video!
It’s funny that Mustard’s wife resembles princess Daisy from Mario, since her voice actress since 2003 is Deanna Mustard
Glad I'm not the only one who drew the connection to Elite Four Karen. XD
Like why the hell is cough, dough, and tough very different sounding? We learn how letters sound as a kid yet it literally doesn't help with guessing how something is pronounced which is not good.
LESS GOOOO BABY 1 MIL. You deserve it so much dude
More appreciation for Peony please. He deserves it
2:36 it has been Agatha all along
Grimsely Seibold and phoebe are some of my favorite elite fours names and trainers
Diantha is also very similar to Diana because "Moon" and "Fairies"!
Also, I feel like this is obvious to anyone who knows about football, but Leon's name is also a clear reference to Lionel Messi, who is generally regarded as one of the best football players out there (In spanish his name is actually Lionel)
I always saw Trace as being analogous to the main character’s name Chase, as both are ways of tracking/following something
"Chop Your Necks Thin Here I Ascend"
Is an even abridged explanation of Cynthia's name's origin.
For Lance it is notabel that his german Name "Siegfried" is taken from a German Legend where Siegfried was a dragon-killer
With molayne since he's an inventor type there could be the fact of mol as a measurement as well as his main mon being a literal mole.
Oh I like that idea. I just heard it came from molybdenum, a type of metal, and machine.
Trace could come from 'race' since Elaine (lane) and Chase also relate to running/racing.
Also, Diantha is not really a fairy type specialist since her ace is her only fairy type. She has more dragon and rock types than she does fairy.

Well, as a French guy, that name sounds like the French name Catherine. Seeing how Caitlin is lady/noble like, maybe there would be something interesting there, but Idk the origin of the name or its meaning.
11:37
So THAT'S why he's named Thymeo in French, huh? I guess it might fit
11:51
First, not a mention to that English guy, expert in martial arts, also named Mustard or something similar? I remember that detail being covered on the channel
Second, just after that, wrong dlc, he's from The crown tundra dlc
"I love her pants!"
-lockstin 2021
sounds especially sus when ur british
as a fan of the pokemon adventures manga series, i'm glad you brought up Yellow for even just a second
If i did the lockstin treatment i would be antski
I guess that makes me a Marter
That'd make me Sharseph
And I’d be Sollby
Steloß oO
i would just end up taking a letter out of my name so uh
For a bit of extra stuff for Lance that is most certainly coincidental: in group dynamics within stories, the character that is most closely connected to the head of the group while still playing second fiddle is called the Lancer (Vegeta is a perfect example). You what the Lancer equivalent is called on the villains side? The Dragon.
oh thats cool and makes sense cuz the Elite 4 were kinda originally meant to be the villains in the story
7:59 makes me want an evil team leader origins, aswell as “generals” (i.e faba)
Faba is named after the faba bean, _Vicia faba_ , which is a behind-the-scenes reason as to where his glasses come from. unfortunately, I have yet to figure out what the bean's connection to the psychic type is
An extra Leon connection via Lion. Lions are used in the heraldry of both England and Scotland, as well as representing England in the UKs' coat of arms.
Grimsley and Piers are my favorite dark type users.
Before Gen 6: Oh, yeah, that makes sense
Gen 6 onwards: *Flower*
Hot take: Guzma should have been part of the Alolan Elite Four
No he’s too much of a stickler to be number one and I don’t think it like being the second bug type elite four member there is
Nah, that completely goes against his character arc.
Him actually being part of it would throw all this away (plus I don't think they'd want him in as he's a troublemaker and constantly breaking rules doing bad things and the like).
But if they did offer him the position I agree with you about everything and that he'd reject it spitting in their faces before leaving.
16:00 Isn't "Peon" also means something like a worker? It would fit a man who looks kinda like a miner and is a steel type trainer.
Caitlin is an Irish name, Lockstin. It's the Irish derivative of Catherine.
Kahili being a golfer is also a pun as golfing terms include Birdie and Eagle
Lance in germany is called Siegfried. Siegfried, the dragon killer
I'd like to say that the spanish name of Siebold is "Narciso", like the man of the greek myth that ended up drowned by seeing his reflection in a lake, relating him with his water type. Also "Narciso" is the name of a blue flower.
So POKÉMON conquest video? U can do the origins of the warlords and why they have that Pokémon or my theory that the Ransei region the region of Pokémon conquest was once the only land in the world like a big continent and the Pokémon be and bw2 say the dragons destroyed and SHAPED the Unova region and in the Pokémon conquest both dragons are there and like some conflict happen and the Ransei region got torn to pieces and made the Pokémon world like we know. Pls just do something on pokemon conquest
They’re all named after Japanese warlord in the Sengoku jidai
@@benduford3746 ik but I want him to just do something on pokemon conquest lol
@@leoblogu417 me too it needs more love
If I had a nickel for every time an Elite Four member shared their named with a champion from League Of Legends, I would have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that that happened twice.
You like locks? Do you play Kingdom Hearts them? 🔐
I'm kinda disappointed you didn't use gen 7 as an excuse to discuss the main characters cannon names
Lockstin: do you have ears?
Deaf people yes but there broken
*Deaf
I feel like the elite four of sinnoh are mostly self-explanatory. Aaron is a kid name a bug catcher might have, bertha males me think of the phrase "Big Bertha" which describes something big, tough, or powerful. Y'know, like ground types. Flint, well, what does flint do? It sparks, it SEEMS like fire, but isn't. Flint talks all the time about blazing passions and fiery determination but only one of his pokemon knows a fire type attack, the one that comes out first. That sparks the conflict.
Will? Well, he has the WILL power of working with psychic types.
Coming from someone named Leon, I'm impressed.
Cyrus: Well, if it isn't Giratina. Are you here to stop me?
Giratina: Actually my name is Leo-
Cyrus: Pathetic.
Diantha has a total of one fairy. "Fairy-type user"
uh ooops. To be fair Kalos wwas the most forgettable for me, and her partner is Fairy.
I'm not a fake Poketuber guys, uhhh-
I, too, thought diantha was a fairy type user. X and Y is just so forgettable outside of AZ
@@Gnoggin Her team is Gardevoir, Hawlucha, Aurorus, Tyrantrum, Goodra, Gourgeist, if i remember correctly.
@@martinus_mars it is
Did you really have to include a sexist term in this video? Honestly disappointing.
2:39 all I could think of was “It’s been Agatha all along”
That would be a sight to see
also, blue and blonde are (kinda) opposites, especially if you put them thru negative filter
(I recommend seeing the negative picture of Marinette and Adrien from Miraculous Ladybug, as their hair and clothes are meant to be opposites/compliments of each other)
His name is Austin Lockman. I FIGURED OUT LOCKSTIN'S NAAAME!!!
wait why did you censor the rest of your name? you have already stated its Austin Lockwood
So that you can only see the important parts and get the point more clearly
@@Gamebuilder2000 but wouldn't it still make sense to show the whole name and highlight the bits that matter?
So stupid newcomers like me would mistake it for Justin Lockhart
Galar champion: *Is named Leon*
Me: Leon? As in Leon S Kennedy?
His name is Austin Lockhart I’m pretty sure also great vid
I saw a TH-cam Comment somewhere that Peony is essentially a 'Rose without Thorns' showing that he's the good brother compared to his older brother Rose.
