    Ratings are down and so is the fan's ability to find the game on all of the apps they have to pay for.

    I hope the ratings keep dropping. NBA games are unwatchable now. Too many threes, too many timeouts, too many commercials, too many bad calls.

    Great presentation. Video should have way more views. Everything you pointed out is spot on. Personally, I lost a lot of interest after the Jordan era. The rivalries between Kobe and his nemesis were fun to watch back in the day. But the current brand right now is pretty much unwatchable.

      Thank you I really appreciate that! I think the NBA just has a major identity problem right now. It feels like the league doesn't know what it wants and is trying to change everything instead of focusing on what made it great in the first place. It's a completely different league than it was and it's almost tailored for the younger audience that never witnessed the previous eras. They've dug themselves into such a big hole, I'm not sure what they could even do to fix it without entirely overhauling the league

    No matter what sport it is most people like to associate star players with a team. Kobe with the lakers, Jordan with the Bulls, Duncan with the spurs, Dirk with the Mavs, etc etc etc. In today’s NBA players change teams way too often and it makes it no fun and harder for fans to get invested in those players and those teams especially more casual NBA fans. You need players staying put and teams to have an identity. And you need those players to want to be on that team and play their hearts out. Not up and leave or force a trade if things aren’t going their way. People want competitors and players they can count on and root for, players that feel like they care about the team and the fans, not ones that seem entitled and soft and only care about themselves and their brand or chasing rings with any team.
    Also for the love of god stop with all the political stuff. People don’t want to be lectured when watching anything especially sports. It’s supposed to be an escape. A fun fandom. Not trying to force a one sided political views which alienates over half of the country.

    All sports deal with streaming yet everybody but the NBA is actually increasing in popularity. The fact of the matter is it’s a watered down league where all the stars have to play with each other and still sit out half the games when nothing is wrong with them. The players just aren’t likable. They complain about making millions of dollars. You don’t hear guys from the NFL doing that.

    I genuinely think it’s just because most people pirate games because they can’t be bothered to pay for it. I pay for league pass because I’m out of market for my favorite team, and I watch 150ish games a year, but I have plenty of friends who watch 40ish games a year during the regular season, and can’t be bothered to buy league pass so they just pirate games, and I don’t blame them.

    I like the video, but is it the nba's fault for the number of ads shown during a game or the network/streaming service providing the coverage? I spoke with a friend of mine who was running TNT's Basketball ad space during games and that friend made it seem like the network was the one responsible for ad slots aired during a game. The only way the NBA could be contributed to the ads is they are running the game on their network or a rule change that generates more breaks/tv timeouts.

    Refereeing is terrible. Too many fouls. Soft. No defense. Poor bball iq. Just trying to draw fouls. Favoring "stars" and big markets. Show the players who actually have skill, and stop rewarding "fame"

    I agree with everything you have said, except for 3 point shots. Makes the game fun; the issue is the lack of defense that is encouraged, which allows for more threes to be attempted.

    • @CourtsideChase
      @CourtsideChase  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I agree with that. I'm actually a lot more pro-three pointers than I sound in the video, I just wanted people to know I get both sides of the argument. The three point volume has changed the game in lots of ways. Comebacks are way more frequent and if a bad team can knock down three's one night then they can beat anyone. It leads to a lot more randomness and I actually like that

    From my perspective, the local balls sports channel in Michigan requires a subscription this year so I stopped watching. It'd be interesting to see if local channels for sports teams are a part of the issue.

    Another thing that I feel like people don't mention is that NBA season is too long. I think a shorter season like that of the Premier League or NFL would make each game feel more meaningful and make the regular season more appealing.

    • @CourtsideChase
      @CourtsideChase  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd even argue the games are too long. 10 minute quarters feel perfect, 12 is just stretching it a bit. I'm fine with 82 games but I agree the games would feel more meaningful if the season were shorter. It's more of a season of stretches. NBA will never change it though

      The players will never accept a pay decrease so there’s no chance they change the amount of games in the season for the foreseeable future. Because there’s no way owners will pay the players the same amount of money for a lot less work.

    The "ratings" are TV ratings that count views for games across TV channels. Those that still watch TV are likely from the 90s era and like that style of play. Social media engagement for NBA is still at all time highs. People generally just watch clips and highlights online rather than a whole game these days.

  • @Sanderus
    @Sanderus 19 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    There are essentially 2 reasons. Internal - which league can control - the product is bad, and external - which it cannot control - low attention spans of younger generations. They would not watch the whole games anyway if they can check the highlights with stat sheets.

      @CourtsideChase  29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@KevinDavis-u5n Yes I definitely think everyone is overreacting to a certain extent. That’s why I said at the end of the video this is a topic that gets brought up every other year. The league is becoming more global than it’s ever been and there are several factors for why the ratings are down. The topic seems way more polarizing than it really is
