Thank you very much for this lovely video. I went to a Catholic school in Ireland. Looking back the whole ethos was very Catholic. We did not learn about other faiths at school until we were about 16 years. I personally knew all about Judaism as our neighbours were Jewish and as a child I was fascinated by all the holidays and great food. Most Irish Jews would go on holiday at Christmas time to Spain, Israel or a kosher hotel in the U.K. But our neighbours mostly stayed home and came into us for a Christmas drink! Of course they always had a party at Hannukah and invited us children. We today are still great friends. Unfortunately the Jewish population in Ireland has got so small over the years. For marriage etc most Irish Jews have gone to live in U.K., U.S. and Israel. Irish Jews were a great part of our cultural life. They founded Cinemas, Theatres etc.
There is a beautiful synagogue in Terenure where I live. Hopefully there will be a community to maintain it. It would be sad to see it go. Wishing you and your family a Happy and Prosperous 2022!

I'm also Irish Catholic and my grandmother always talks about the Jewish people she knew. Her mother used to clean for a Jewish woman and she was so kind to my fsmy there's very few Jews left in Ireland but theres still alot of history the Jewish cemetery is near me in Belfast, its very old and not in use but it has the old Hebrew writing at the old entrance and the star of David x

Same here! I’m Catholic, but wanted to learn a bit more about Judaism (my aunt married a Jewish guy, so my much younger cousins, who are still in middle school, on my mom’s side are being raised Jewish) and now just love watching Marion and how fun she is! I also feel like we have strangely similar stories, just separated by a few years (I’m a few years younger)- we both grew up in fairly insular religious communities in Southern California, except I was in a Catholic bubble (Catholic school, Catholic friends, met one girl at a summer day camp who said she was Jewish and I think I thought she was kidding because I didn’t know it was possible to be anything other than Catholic) and I lived in San Diego, not LA, and we now both live in the DC metro area, so the connections are fun :)

As a convert, I always wonder what it would've been like to have a Jewish upbringing. I feel like there's so much I missed out on. I grew up in towns with large Jewish populations, but I was raised Christian. I'm thankful I had such a diverse upbringing around different people and cultures, but I'm hoping to give my children that Jewish childhood and life as they grow up.
And I'm sure your children will benefit from your enthusiasm for the newness of it all!

My orthodox Jewish Yeshiva education prepared me for university. I found no difference when I arrived at NYU. The experience was protective, nurturing and SO BEAUTIFUL

I also grew up Christian and now am raising a conservative Jewish household post conversion. One of my friends, who is also Jewish, told me, “Being raised Jewish is the biggest blessing I was given , because it gave me everything I needed”. I can only hope for the same for my family! Thanks for sharing your experiences. I was raised Christian and married a reformed jewish man. I want to learn as much as I can so that we can teach our children about Jewish traditions and values.
I am in the process of converting to Judaism in my 40's. And I have said a few times that I wish I found it when I was young because I missed out on so many cool things!
Aww I hear that, it's hard to make up for that but it's so nice your'e on the journey now that's meant for you.
@@MyJewishMommyLife I do think I appreciate Judaism more now than if I had decided to convert in my 20's or early 30's. I think I was Jewish all along, but didn't know a name for it and had to come to it in my own way. And I had to go through a few things in my 20's and 30's to learn and grow from.

I’m happy I found your channel, I’ve learned a lot about Jewish life and their holidays. I grew up catholic and I first discovered Judaism (oddly enough) through the cartoon show called the Rugrats. As they celebrated Passover and Hanukkah. Keep up the great work, I enjoy watching ur videos!

I'm Christian, but I subscribed to learn about Jewish life and your beautiful family. When my.son was in Catholic elementary school, he told the nuns: My Dad is Lutheran, My Mom is Methodist, I go to Catholic school, and I want to be Jewish. I couldn't keep a straight face when the nuns told me!! My upbringing was so strange here in Delaware, I didn't have anyone close to me that was Jewish until I went to college. I'm loving your channel and family.❤️

Thanks for telling us of your childhood in L.A. It sounds as though it was a warm, embracing environment at home and school and synagogue. In schools using the Montessori Method, they do not have the same divisions of study that American public schools have or many secular private institutions or religious schools. However, they manage to cover all needed subject areas at the appropriate stages of growth and development fitting them into the curriculum, so that students are ready for higher learning. Most Jews in many major metropolitan areas I have lived in go to the movies and out for Chinese food on Christmas because those are less crowded and a lot of other things one might choose to do are closed.
I gotta say you’re channel is one of a kind. I love everything Jewish … I am Hispanic Christian but I was born and taught to embrace the Jewish culture. I discovered customs my grandfather and his brothers did like why did they have two separate twin beds in their home? And all of them studied law? Why don’t we cook pork?
My dad had this conversation with me and told me we’re Jewish even though much of our family just don’t embrace the culture or acknowledge their Jewish roots. We’re a mishmash I guess. I’m teaching my children to embrace the culture. Shabbat is wonderful it makes my soul come alive …

I am Jewish, with a beautiful small Jewish family…I know several interfaith couples where the wife is not Jewish, yet the wife would like to bring Jewish traditions into their homes. I would be EXTREMELY grateful if you and perhaps a friend put together a series of instructional videos for Mothers in this situation. There could be a module on Shabbat, each of the major Holidays, and ways to bring Judaism into one’s family life. This is a concept that would not be to eclipse conversion as an option…but for the interfaith “curious” who needs some support and whose husband or another in law isn’t able to serve in this role…I’d be happy to contribute…but I am a “senior” and I think a peer led project might be more appealing. I hope you’ll seriously consider this creative and important work! Warmly Ellen
For that it's easier if you ask conservative or reform rabbi to be invited some shabbats Friday evening, at least or breakfast but includ sharing the part synagogue part. You must be part of Jewish community. You need to live close to Jewish synagogue and the community. For your children could come and go easily and take part with their age kids actives and education.

I am Jewish and we have a Jewish home,etc. My idea was a resource created to help interfaith couples who may not be affiliated to bring Judaism into their homes. I have met numerous couples where the wives are not Jewish but they aJewish cautious” and would like to bring Judaism into their homes but need guidance. Usually the husbands also want this, but they didn’t grow up in an observant home either. An internet offering for these families could help them and possibly connect their entire family to Judaism. I agree that connecting to a Jewish community is very important this type of informative program would be an on line introduction to that communityt. Thank you

I'm not Jewish, but I do try to keep kosher and live Torah as best as I can. So, learning about how you get ready for and celebrate the Sabbath would be wonderful. And the other holidays as well.

Hi Marion, thanks for this video. So informative. Merry Christmas to you and your family too. Love the coffee cup you had on the video today from Hanukkah! I wish western society would acknowledge more and more the original Jewish holidays and do away with the ‘Christmas’ and ‘easter’ ones and call them / transfer the public holiday acknowledgement of them to Passover and Hanukkah instead. That might cause a bit of controversy in the comments, but that’s what I think… particularly this year. Interesting stuff eh!

I’m a generation ahead of you and was raised Protestant in a very Catholic city. I didn’t meet anyone Jewish/have Jewish friends until I went to college, although I do remember our church youth group getting to visit a temple about the same age you visited a church!
It's really crazy how we can go so long without meeting people of different backgrounds!

It sounds like your life growing up was so awesome. The first 8 years of my life were spent growing up in Maine, and going to a Christian school. I had no idea that there were so many different types of people back then. Then, my Dad got a job in TX working for NL, and we moved. Since then, I've been to every state in the US except, Florida and Hawaii, and I thing Washington, up in the top left of the US. The only place I've been outside of the US was Mexico.
I'm seriously thinking that I want to become Jewish, but I don't know if my husband is 100% on board, although he has said, that if the US gets any worse, that he wants to move to Israel. He thinks it would be safer there because God put a lot of care and love towards getting Jewish people to the promised land. My husband used to work doing estate sales, and we have seen many Jewish families move from AZ, back to Israel.

Christian people tend to think that Jews get more gifts because Chanukah is eight days long. We either got 8 very small gifts, one each night of Chanukah, or one larger gift. There were four children in the family, middle class and we really never got extravagant gifts at all.
I’m an atheist. I’m very interested in religions. When I was teaching we had Religious and Moral Education. What I find disheartening is that there is never any talk about what it means to be an atheist and the fact that we do indeed have a moral compass

This is great thanks. I grew up "white" with close biological family of "mixed ancestry traits" inclusive of LEVANT traits and "Styles" of behaviour. I grew up close to a Jewish community (Kosher practicing). Uncles, Aunts and cousins have an impact on LIFE in general terms of ENDURING questions that REMAIN ;)

I’m not Jewish, but I just like to watch your channel. My parents didn’t celebrate Christmas due to their own beliefs. When I got married, I made sure that my kids understood my parents beliefs, but also my church’s beliefs. My kids are grown now & they have said that they understood why I didn’t make such a big deal about the gifts & things. My husband & I now put out a few decorations & a wreath on the front door.

I consider myself Christian, celebrated all the Christian holidays, but I'm more spiritual than anything. I loved this one! Now that we know more of your story, I'd love to know more about your husband's and/or what you plan to keep the same and make different for your kids.
Question: I’ve grown up in the Southern Baptist Bible Belt so we being Catholic was always unusual, I literally don’t think anyone but my husband went to my high school that was also Catholic- we didn’t know that when we met btw 😆 funny how those things happen- anyway- my question is that you said you toured other churches and since I find so much beauty in your religions customs and lighting candles and doing religious things isn’t strange to me - have you ever seen a Catholic Mass and what have you noticed about these two religions are similar?
People who aren’t familiar with rituals and practice a religion are sometimes surprised that there are many types of Catholics- maybe not types, but levels to how much they participate and are devout vs others who aren’t. Is that also true for

Cradle Catholic fan here and really appreciate your condor and opening up and sharing honestly your life experience. I hope no one ever makes you feel like your childhood was any less/more/or worse or better because it was different from theirs. It’s perfectly okay for you to come from a household with parents who invested in educating you privately and with a school who has teachings of their choosing.
Never let someone invalidate your experience just because it was different from theirs. While it wasn’t a school of many types of people, there’s plenty of opportunity and life ahead of a child for them to have exposure to other people and their cultures.
You answered about Christmas and the way it’s hard to not have a bit of holiday envy- I’m so fascinated with some of Jewish’s beautiful ways and traditions as well. I think it’s only natural to be curious and then be able to be appreciative of someone’s traditions from afar.
The beginning of the catholic was

He order to boycot the jews also he changed meny things like the shabbat and the day of shabbat from Saturday to Sunday. the judaidm to devide the "gentiles" from the jews the "gentails" loved the judaism(it took the Rome Empaier 900 years to complete by force and punishments to complete the change of Shabbat to sunday ! And the character of this (holy) shabbat.
The first catholic was simply just brunch of the judaism.

Since you weren't taught about Christmas, how did your parents explain it when you were out and about and would see the decorations and people buying things and stuff like that? Thank you
America is a Christian country, as a Jew you see those things around you in stores, communities, other neighborhoods. Believe me, unless in a really Orthodox Jewish community, most Jews know about Christian holidays. Like she said no Halloween, Valentines Day, Christmas celebrated in a Jewish community.

Also as a Jew it's very important to learn about Judaism in a young age. I'm noahide and I'm considering going through conversion (i have a son so i really need to be sure first). Though I'd prob love to grow up learning in a Jewish school. I'm sure my son would as well.

Can you explain the differences and similarities between the Orthodox, Conservative and Reformed? You used all those terms in the video as comparisons.

Given an ultimatum rather my child have an education that teaches Jewish and Hebrew studies and doesn’t include pagan holidays than I would for my child to even be learning at the same rate of other kids I can teach them anything they would miss at home for me the point is to protect them from exposure to the secular world the way you describe it I couldn’t dream of a better life for my child

I do and have really good friends that are interfaith. For my family raising our children in the Jewish faith was a priority to them I would say.
I came to your channel because as 7th day Adventist I wanted to know how you celebrated Sabbath. I stay because I like your content. As an African American I would like to know will your children have the opportunity to play with children who are not white? (After COVID of course) Thank you.

I grew up in York Pennsylvania. Being from Baltimore, you probably can guess. It was horrible. It is the middle of the Bible Belt. I got harassed all of the time. The rabbi was dishonest. After he left, they hired a replacement who wasn’t even Jewish. I had two Jewish friends, but they ended up moving away. There was no Jewish school. My sister still lives there. I moved out ASAP.
I’m sure that was tremendously difficult 😞

My mother taught kindergarten in the Jewish Day School in our city for 10 years during the 1960s. She taught secular studies, and a rabbi taught the children Jewish studies including Hebrew language lessons.
Twenty years later in the early 1980s I followed in my mother's footsteps and joined the faculty at the same school as a secular studies teacher for 5th graders. By then my mother had retired, so she was no longer on the faculty.
Both of us cherished our time at the school and the many precious children we taught. Most of the children in my classes were family members of some of the children my mother had taught 20 years earlier.
My father was even part of that picture because in the early 1960s he built a large two-storey dollhouse for my mother's kindergarten class. The children got so excited when a newspaper reporter and photographer came to their classroom to do an article about that dollhouse. It was still being used when I taught at the school.
I love that!! And I remember each of my teachers so well and how much of a positive impact they made on my life just as I'm sure you and your mom did for so many!

I have heard the same thing about their origins, that they share similar names and even some dietary customs
Also the Lemba an ethnic tribe in Africa have a connection to Judaism. They share genetic material and some rituals and customs. Interesting-isn’t it?
