  • Removing suspension springs is very dangerous job and must be preformed by qualified mechanics, It is not recommended for diy.
    Cadillac Magnetic Ride Control uses independent electronic sensors in each wheel in order to check road conditions up to 1,000 times per second. Every 5 milliseconds, The fluid in the suspension system is infused with metallicized particles that help the vehicle react and respond to the road instantly.

    42:49 Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I replaced my struts and found it not that hard at all. I installed struts with new springs ect already assembled. I did have to take the first strut to a shop and have the yoke spread so the strut would slide into it. I purchased a spreader tool online so I could do the 2ond strut . Took a day for that to arrive and was less than $30.00. I would highly recommend to anyone tackling this job to have one on hand or have a shop lined up just in case you run into this problem.

    Thank You for the very educational and informational video. Its really the only one that I would recommend to people attempting to change their struts. I am converting my XTS to the Strutmaster conversion struts. I already changed the rear and am currently waiting for some parts for the front. I wanted to put new springs on instead of using originals. You did an excellent job.

    Excellent video! Thank you for sharing! I appreciate it! I got some good tips for when I do my struts. I'm glad you pointed out the safety aspect of strut replacement. My father was a mechanic most his life and he had a spring exit the spring compressor and that required a hospital visit! So you can't stress that enough! Just buy the assembly and get all new parts! It's less expensive than buying a tool or going to the hospital!

    Hello, I have a 2016 Cadillac XTS, but the damper is complete. What do you program after replacing them?

  • @jasonbroadway828
    @jasonbroadway828 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    So after doing some research. I have found that some bolts are a Torque To Yield bolt and require replacement. As they are single use only. It appears they are the ones that give a torque spec. plus a certain degree setting in addition to initial torque value. They are meant to stretch. Wonder if for some applications if they are really necessary and if they could be swapped out for a conventional bolt.

    • @carservicepro
      @carservicepro  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Replacing the bolts on the suspension isn't always necessary unless they're stripped or damaged. These bolts are typically designed to endure significant stress. However, there's no harm in replacing them preventatively. It's crucial to use bolts specifically made for the vehicle you're working on. I've encountered troubling situations in this industry when customers bring in cars they've tinkered with themselves or recently purchased. I've seen original OEM bolts swapped out with ones bought from hardware stores. This is highly discouraged. Regarding bolt stretching, this is more commonly associated with bolts used in engine construction, such as cylinder head bolts, rod bearing bolts, intake manifold bolts, and so forth, especially in the case of models like Mini Coopers.

    How is it possible to tighten the final bolt when the car is on the ground. You have no clearance to reach the nut and bolt?

  • @LaserMade84
    @LaserMade84 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The line he marked for the last bolt should be done in the beginning while the car is on the ground so you have a guide of where it needs to be. When you are ready to tighten the bolt use a jack to line up the marks and tighten without having to wait to drop the car and while you have everything exposed.

    • @carservicepro
      @carservicepro  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Appreciate your input! While using a jack is an option, it's not the most recommended. It's crucial to have the vehicle leveled for safety and accuracy. The mark I made was just to highlight the difference, but marking before removal might cause confusion between old and new struts. Unlike timing belts or chains, there's no need for such precision with struts. Also, the reason for torqueing the bolt last is to maintain the suspension in its neutral, relaxed position so you wont damage the rubber bushing and then you will have excessive pulls when you drive. Thanks for watching!

      You get better results when all four wheel touching the ground because this way you have even weight distribution, however your method will work too.

    • @carservicepro
      @carservicepro  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't know why you are missing a camber bolt from the first place! You have to make sure you have the correct bolt installed and get wheel alignment done correctly, also I believe since your missing essential bolt like this one I assume there is some work was done on the suspension so you need check and go over all installed parts again to make sure nothing else missing and parts are correctly mounted, good luck!

      @@user-ld9yt2bl6z I am sorry to hear that, call the parts department in any Cadillac dealer and ask them for that camber bolt and take a picture of the missing bolt area and send it to them, also there are aftermarket camber bolts kit available you can search on Google, since you mentioned accident involved now this depends on how the repair shop decided what parts to replace on that suspension with this being said if the wheel got hit hard it is recommended to replace the whole knee because it is common for most repair shop to replace only the strut or lower control arm or both but they missed the spindle AKA knuckle also the cradle gets effected sometimes, of course there other parts to it like but not limited to tie rods inner and outer, axles, rack, car frame and etc, I don't wanna confuse you too much but in conclusion take it to a professional alignment shop let the tell you what needs to be done!
