    Currently training in Muay Thai and Boxing, among other things. What I took from this video is: Karate is good for maintaining distance, moving in/out etc. You can use Muay Thai to CREATE distance when distance is lost and effectively capitalize on the various distances while creating the space, and the boxing is great for the overall striking, along with the Muay Thai. Agree?

    It's nice to see you bringing karate to MMA. Working with distance has become a primary focus of mine, which I think is part of footwork, of course. When I start to physically work out, I want to find the most efficient ways to close distance quick. Of course, I don't want to walk right into an incoming attack either! I took a couple of fencing lessons a long time ago...little did I know that their focus on footwork would be what I became fascinated with so many years later! Great job as always!

    Great point. Indeed there is quite a lot of successful MMA guys with karate background. Speaking about karate, i assume the talk is more about sport/point karate, where the footwork training is compatible with Shotokan(focus on speed) and also perhaps the northern China traditional wushu styles. The southern China styles (and some Okinawan schools like GoJu) use different movement principles (close range..). Thanks. Fantastic videos. Learning a lot.

      Is there a connection between Sanshou/Sanda and Shotokan Karate stance? Both of them look kind of similar in many instances.

    I do Karate, and MMA too. I'm the only one in my MMA class who does Karate, and its incredible how much they underestimated it, something that is very wrong, especially as a MIX martial artist. Luckily my footwork and kicks are very good, so I have been able to change (some) their minds, just a bit.

    After watching Kyokushin Knockouts, I want to know where are the weakpoints and what are the non lethal moves to use for self defense. I rather learn to defend and attack effectively than to knockout my opponent and sending them in the ER.

  • @makaiev

    oh man... wish I could take a selfie with jessie.... to bad I took a break (for work issues) btw, footwork is king! The basics are mostly what decides the fights it-self in what i have seen.... but then there are stuff like tai sabaki that some people overestimate and see it as a "perfect weapon", others completely disregard it completely, but in all honesty, no matter how powerfull are you punches and kicks if you can't touch the guy... plus, in good self defense you get away of half of what is thrown at you with awereness and footwork alone!

  • @TheMatrixofMeaning
    @TheMatrixofMeaning ปีที่แล้ว

    Karate stance is too wide and bladed. It has excellent in and out movement and angle changes. You can effectively strike from 180 degrees but if you want to be mobile at different ranges, if you need to square up or switch stances to walk someone down or escape a blitz you need to learn basic boxing stances. There isn't just one. Some styles have the weight on the back foot, front foot, or more even. Some styles are more or less blades.
    What I have learned is to become comfortable in every striking stance and foot position, to move around many different ways and cut angles smoothly, shift into and out of South paw while punching with different speeds and power levels, different head positions, etc. until I don't have to think about where my feet are to throw fast powerful strikes in any direction
