    Yes this works great! I open up the Nube as much as is practical and then use a veggie steamer for about 3-5 minutes. Then remove it and let it mostly dry out and then start dividing it up for spinning. Works great and Malabrigo is SO soft and colors are exquisite!
    Can’t beat that price either with most other roving going for $30+ dollars

      Nube had the best colors and it is so soft when you finally get it opened up lol. I was thrilled when someone told me to try this. Game changing for sure.

    Your video was so helpful. I'm a self-taught spinner and never knew about compacted roving. I've used roving that I had trouble drafting so I usually end up splitting it into pencil slivers to make it easier to spin without pulling and tugging. Your solution just saved me so much time!! Lots of dyed roving now comes vacuum sealed for easier shipping and you have just showed me how to get it puffed back up again!! Thank you :)

    I spent this evening, my first attempt at drop spindle, fighting with a compacted marino roving and was about to just give up on the whole idea. Now instead, tomorrow I'm gonna break out my handheld steamer and give myself another chance.

    Hi Tamsin, THANK YOU soooo much for sharing this!!!!!!!! What a total game changer!!! Like you, I am so in love with this fibre & whilst I find prepping it for spinning quite therapeutic, I agree, it is extremely time consuming. But after seeing this, that will be a thing of the past. I’m off to give it a try 😁. I did some research a while ago into how this company came to be & I have to say, the Malabrigo story is quite fascinating & heart warming, well worth a look. Interesting fact; the roving is compacted, very slightly felted, as a result of their very unique dying process. Whilst video tours of their factory are available on line, not all areas are shown as their actual dying process is a very closely guarded secret. I don’t blame them as their colour ways are one of a kind gorgeous. Looking forward to seeing your finished yarn. x

    Again, (just noted this on another vlog.)don't steam for long . I think you did it just right . Because humidity is very bad for fine fibers. Angora rabbits for example will have the coats felt right to the skin if it is humid.

    • @bffiberarts
      @bffiberarts  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As long as you're not agitating or using soap, wool can take a lot more moisture than rabbit fur. The agitation comes from the fiber absorbing the moisture and swelling, movement that can be agitation if it's really, really fine like angora rabbit fur. But unless it's 14 micron merino, you're pretty safe using lots of steam.
