Who's still crying in 2020? This guy.
Me too. Just had a big cry watching this. ❤️
Me too. Glad I wasn't the only guy who did LOL.
This is what All My Children had always done right and set them apart from other soaps! They always celebrated family and community in such heartfelt and memorable ways.
Yes they did. That’s why I as glad it was cancelled before David Canary’s death. I couldn’t have handled Adam Chandlers death
@@cwp4eva Oh same here...there are no words to have described a tribute to David Canary....truly larger than life.
Thank you so much for posting! I just spend forty or so minutes bawling my eyes out and it was wonderful. I haven't enjoyed AMC in a long time but this was done right.
And Adam/Brooke was just icing on the cake.
If you didn't cry at the end of this you weren't a fan of AMC or have no heart. A great actor who played a great character. Hard to believe it's been nearly 10 years since James Mitchell passed.
That was a truly loving tribute not just to a soap opera character, but to a great actor and a loving man. He has touched so many lives.
This episode still gets me....it shows how loved James Mitchell was to his cast mates. Thank you L.B. for writing such a lovely tribute, I would hate to think what it would have been like if David and Donne (who were head writers at the time) had written this episode. The music in the background is especially touching. R.I.P, James, you are missed!
I loved the ending with Dixie welcoming Palmer into Heaven...what a nice touch!
Great great episode!
Now its totally silly because Dixie wasn't dead.
@@marcuscook2460 I love how Dixie was mysteriously a red-head in heaven.
Then it turned out she wasn’t even there lol
They said that Dixie’s ghost was there as she was in a coma at the time.
@@tjames9698 being revived by Dr. Evil of course ;)
great actor the late David Canary. Will be sorely missed as Adam and Stuart.
Once again the writers of AMC wrote a script that touched our hearts when someone who we carried in our hearts actually passed away.
I loved Palmer, I loved his growth during his years on the show. He was a very talented man whose career lasted for decades from Oklahoma to Pine Valley.
Sidenote- Mr. Mitchell (Palmer) actually walked Ms. Miller (Nina) down the aisle when she got married. That alone tells me he must have been one hell of a man!
Actually this episode was NOT written by the current HW’s of the show at the time....Lorianne Broderick who was deemed Agnes Nixon’s protégée was brought back to write this particular episode. Only she could have done it justice (as you can see)
Totally the best goodbye & tribute to a beloved soap opera character and the actor who played him. Well done, AMC. James Mitchell/Palmer Cortlandt you will be missed!
What a beautiful cameo for Cady McClain. I'm assuming she asked or was asked to do this despite having left the show years ago because she herself was fond of James Mitchell after all the years they'd worked together.
Ironically, Dixie would return sometime afterwards, but this was still a beautiful ending.
Watching Dixie welcoming Palmer home did it for me... what a wonderful tribute to an actor, and great dancer. Rest in Peace... James Mitchell, you are now once again dancing with Thelma Todd.
What an amazing man he was. He'll be missed and remembered forever.
And Dixie appearing at the end just opened the floodgates for me.
Poor Kendall breaking down over Palmer. He was the father she never had!
Indeed. Palmer treated Kendall like a daughter and advised her in her business. Kendall couldn’t have had a better father figure than Palmer.
@@maryhlad5277100% agreed! Even when Sarah Michelle Gellar played her, Palmer had a soft spot for her. He saw in her what no one else did. A good person!
@@maryhlad5277when Zach and Kendall first married the very first time for business reasons and no one liked or trusted Zach I wanted Palmer to have a feud with Zach and threaten him not to hurt Kendall or he’d answer to him!
Soaps have always done a wonderful job of commemorating the actors who have passed away.
Camille McKenzie Usually they do....especially the long time vets like James. Lorianne Broderick was brought back to write this episode and she KILLED IT
I still feel that because AMC was off the air when David Canary died, he didn't get the proper tribute that he richly deserved.
@@brklyn345 And that’s a good thing....I would have absolutely lost it at HIS tribute episode.
When the older ones pass away part of the show does to.
Oh my that made me cry
My fave line from this part: by Adam Chandler: "From Pigeon Hallow to Pine Valley. Because of you, my happiest days are still ahead of me."
Although they were enemies you can see that Adam respected hik somewhat.
RIP James Mitchel
No I think a part of Adam not only respected him I think as much as they claim to hate each other they cared about each other
this is what the soaps have forgotten - older characters with history. Kudos AMC
I didn't think I would cry during this, but the part of the episode really got me through the heart.
So touching and very beautiful scenes. It's so nice to see the rich history here...thank you to Lorraine Broderick! And a big thanks for posting this. I hope AMC goes out in the same poignant style!
I was never too fond of Palmer, but tis memorial made me cry. How sad.....that he really did pass away in real life.
Very sad. Well done episode and tribune to a fine actor and iconic character.
This was a beautiful memorial.
I love how they got Cady to come back for this episode (which yeah given the plot contrivance of David's Orpheus Project bringing her back to life calling the canon of this moment into question, but hey it's a soap where children can age between 1-10 years in the set of a day, or a person can completely change their entire physical appearance and no one blinks an eye). Only one person could greet Palmer before the Almighty himself, and that was his beloved niece Dixie.
I think since Dixie wasn't dead, her spirit was aware of that, and was just lingering. It could be argued that with all of the dastardly things Palmer did - especially regarding Cliff - maybe Dixie's spirit knew that Palmer's time would be up soon, and her spirit stayed out of her body long enough to help Palmer get into heaven.
lol. I bet Phoebe (and Natalie!) are looking for him, lol!!!
I'm glad they gave Mitchell this send off...he deserved it. Palmer was my favorite character in the eighties. Adam tended to chew the scenery, but Palmer was smooth.
It would have great if Donna and Benny would have been there!
What a great guy and will be so missed. Also, the ending was the best thing ever on that soap. Great old writers, cared less about all of us who loved Dixie. She wants to come back tto AMC, bring her back already somehow.
"i dam you to hell for quite a few years" lol
@kimsturge I agree. I have not watched All My Children for long but I did love Myrtle's character as well as the great day who played her. I loved that they mentioned her too.
How could Dixie be able to welcome Palmer to heaven if she wasn't dead?
It's a Soap.
It was before they decided to bring her back.
@@ajitter89 Oh, yeah, that's right. 😆
Jesse was also in heaven. And also Victor Lord on OLTL.
Not even a mention of Donna.
Me Too
@reva383 Yes but Dixie is clearly witnessing and interving in PVites lives. Jesse was never more than a ghostly guide. And we know for sure Palmer is dead, and seeing Dixie confirms it. We dont know for sure Gillian acutally died.
That damn P. C. he was a great antagonist. I loved the story line with him trying to keep Cliff and Nina apart. He had me hooked on AMC to see what evil he would do next.
Where's Cliff?
I know that Y&R would have had a scheduling conflict, but it's too bad that they didn't try to make it work.
The same way Jesse appeared to Tad in a Christmas episode years and years ago yet he magically came back from the dead. It's all fiction. :)
@cookiemonkey313 Leo is probaly alive, but I dont figure hes comming back since the actor who played him has moved on. But since Dixie died onscreen and Cady McClain has moved on, its unlikely we will see Dixie again unless its a brief return as a spirit.
Did Dixie die her hair in heaven?
LMAO!! At this time Cady was playing Rosanna on As The World Turns, and her hair was red for the role.
@cookiemonkey313 Gillian didnt see Jenny in heaven and Leo probaly isnt dead since no body ever turned up. Leo has never been seen as a spirit or a dead body.
Leo is still alive. They couldn't let the character die without establishing his true paternity. My money's on Eric Kane being his biological father.
@kirstenrox234 Jesse welcomed Gillian "home" if I remember correctly and he's alive lol. it's still possible(:
@mattfrye1 Jesse died onscreen too... it can happen :D we can hope
of course we have to dixie--i think she os overrated
