Are you thinking of starting a resort business? Whether you're starting from scratch or taking over an existing resort, it's important to know the common pitfalls that can lead to failure. In this video, we'll explore 10 reasons why resort businesses fail and what you can do to avoid them.
    10. Lack of Planning and Preparation - Failing to plan and prepare thoroughly before opening your resort can lead to a host of problems, including underfunding, unexpected expenses, and a lack of clear direction.
    9. Poor Location Selection - The location of your resort can make or break its success. Make sure to choose a location that's accessible to your target market, has the infrastructure to support your resort, and has a strong local economy.
    8. Underestimating the Competition - Before opening your resort, it's important to research the local market and understand the competition. Don't assume that there's enough demand for your resort without considering the competition.
    7. Inadequate Marketing and Promotion - Marketing and promotion are essential for any business, and this is especially true for resort businesses. Make sure you have a comprehensive marketing plan that targets your target market and sets you apart from the competition.
    6. Poor Financial Management - Financial management is key to the success of any business, and this is especially true for resort businesses. Make sure to have a solid budget and financial plan in place before opening your resort, and regularly monitor your finances to ensure that you're on track.
    5. Inadequate Staff Training - Your staff is the face of your resort, and it's important to ensure that they're well-trained and able to provide exceptional customer service. Invest in comprehensive training programs for all staff members to ensure that they're prepared for the challenges of running a resort.
    4. Lack of Amenities and Services - Your guests will expect a variety of amenities and services when they stay at your resort. Make sure to offer a range of options, including comfortable accommodations, dining options, and recreational activities.
    3. Poor Maintenance and Upkeep - Your resort must be kept in top condition to attract and retain guests. Make sure to invest in regular maintenance and upkeep to ensure that your resort is always in top condition.
    2. Inadequate Technology - Technology is an important part of running a resort business, and it's important to invest in the right tools to ensure that you can effectively manage your resort and provide exceptional customer service.
    1. Lack of Flexibility and Adaptability - The hospitality industry is constantly changing, and it's important to be flexible and adaptable to ensure that you can respond to changing market conditions and customer needs. Be prepared to make changes to your resort as needed to ensure its continued success.
In conclusion, avoiding these 10 common pitfalls is crucial for the success of your resort business. By taking the time to plan and prepare, choose the right location, invest in marketing and promotion, and provide exceptional customer service, you can increase your chances of success and build a thriving resort business.

Looking at this from a employee review. Many resorts have poor management, high turnover, employees literally working like a race horse due to shortages, that management seems to fail miserably. The set up in some of these places are horrible.

I've worked in the wellness industry and I've spent the last 7 years in resorts and I can really confirm what you're saying... It's really hard and needs a lot of elements to be together to make it happen...
    Good luck everyone
