Fry is canonically 2 eternities and 1026 years old. He is the probably one of the chronologically oldest beings in fiction.
Organic beings at least. Bender has him beat
@@Solvernia and then his head is something like 50 years older than THAT
Point of order. Bender is naturally is 4 years old when he meets fry. Plus, he was frozen in time on the "4th" series finale while Fry was still aging, but it ends with a fade to white so it's a factor we know nothing about until new series premier. Also, is Fry 1025 years old at the beginning of the series or is he just 25? Time was moving while he was not. In the same way you could say that time was moving, and Bender's head was not when they retrieved him from area 51 in the future. Or at least he wasn't experiencing anything new, or went into hibernation mode. He didn't mention any interaction between the 1950's and then. Plus it's kinda hard to determine the age of characters who also never grow older cus that's how cartoons work for the most part.
@@CodeguruX biologicaly he is in his 20's. chronologicaly he is in his thousands.
@@alecrutz956 best part is he’s only 4 years old or less at the beginning of the series
Though on a slightly more positive note, Fry got to see the end of it all with two of his closest friends in the world. Its not perfect but most people would probably prefer that.
Drinking a beer with a couple of friends while watching the universe end...sounds a little insane but you're right...it wouldn't be a bad way to go out
His closest living relative and his first friend in the future. What a way to go…
Not just once but TWICE
@@FloofyOneTorpheus LMFAOOO yeah i forgot one of em held the handle too long and the new universe was exactly the same but a few feet lower than theres
to be fair one of 'em is his nephew XD
cant believe there wasnt a single mention of "just slow down I'll assassinate hitler from the window" that was one of the best one liners in the whole series.
Probably one of those jokes he left out on purpose so as to not spoil it.
This episode has one of my favorite jokes in the whole series.
Hedonism Bot: "Everywhere I looked, there were piles of bodies!
Then the explosion occurred!"
When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.
that's an interesting take on this episode. considering the galaxy only appears twice can we be sure it wasn't behind other stuff? like sending fry into the past to impregnate his own grandmother which gave him the power to save the universe? or the necklace being embedded in fry's head which le4d to him creating a new explosion of life?
My favourite line of the whole series
Oh my God!!!! You are God!!!!
@@Samrules888 that life one was my favorite one.
OH. YOUR. GOD.
This is one of the greatest episodes of the series! seeing Fry, Bender and Farnsworth going on an accidental trip through forward time was very interesting especially the part where they witnessed the end of the universe and then the birth of a new identitcal universe. and as for the B plot with Leela's feelings for Fry i thought it was pretty romantic when Leela carved a message for Fry into the ceiling of the then abandoned Cavern On The Green, and then Fry finding the message in the future was kinda sad but i overall enjoyed the episode.
Looking back, I noticed something subtle but brilliant in this episode. Throughout the episode, you’re hoping the trio finds an era with a reverse time machine to go home, but the fact that it shows the aftermath, with old Leela running the company, technically means they never made it back. Such stealthy foreshadowing.
While that is true so does the actual logic not really work as they ones they reached time repeat 2 always had access to a backwards time machine. They just need to get the Binary Time travel code from Benders Big Score from Fry's ass while they know for a fact it was still there.
Such a fun ep, good breakdown
Took the words out of my mouth! Just subbed and can't wait to watch the rest of his stuff
Shady, at this point, you are one of the only TH-camrs honestly making it worth while to waste ten minutes of my existence on. Don’t dare stop, or I’ll build a time machine with spacial transmogrification
Futurama really tugged on my heart strings sometimes. Why did I tear up a little when Leela left the message in stone for Fry to see? 😥
This episode does have a load of great moments, as well as some funny ones. My favorite gag is when they're progressing through time after the second big bang, and make a temporary stop so Farnsworth can blow up frigging Hitler with a laser gun. And then the second time...
"Just slow it down, I'll shoot Hitler out the window. *aims and takes the shot* Darn! I hit Eleanor Roosevelt by mistake."
An analysis on a major tear jerking episode. Excellent. There are no accidents. Love your content.
Edit: I derped. Thought this was a different episode. Still love it.
Wait do you mean to say this one doesn’t make you cry?
@@matthewgallaway3675 for some reason, I thought he was talking about the one where he discovers Fry Jr. He already talked about that. I'm not in good spirits right now or in a right frame of mind at the moment.
Futurama is so good I’m a new fan as I binged the whole show and this was a great episode
Actually, that ending part has me thinking. Fry A ended up with Leela C, and Fry C and Leela A both died. But what about Fry B? Presumably he still went into the time machine, so is there just a neverending loop of different timelines of Fry flying through and killing every 3rd one?
Fry B and Leela B would have the same fate as their A counterparts but Fry B would skip over Fry C and take the place of Fry D. If the universe is the exact same every time then this would be a cycle of the C and D variants getting killed while A and B take their places but if it doesn't repeat the same then odds are that this cycle might not happen in timeline E and onwards
I remember one of the writers specifically added the joke of them skipping past universe B so that it makes the time loop work out so that Fry A is left alone in C while Fry B repeats A's journey ending in D. Therefore, there are no paradoxes! So, it's more than just a joke, but a way to fix a potential plothole.
Wait, I found a paradox with this by just looking out the window.
A > (jump over B) > Fry C
Fry B > (jump over C) > Fry D
So, Fry A and B are the time travelers, whilst Fry C and D are the “10 ft lower” ones.
Fry A jumps over Fry B, who is a time traveller. Fry B jumps over Fry C, who has been replaced.
In a cycllicic universe, there should be no way to tell whether you’re Fry A or Fry B, as they should have the same fate.
However, there is a problem with this if they look out the window whilst jumping over a universe.
Fry A would look out the window to see a living Fry, but Fry B would look out the window to see a crushed Fry.
It’s a never ending loop of Fry killing every 3rd and 4th one.
The loop repeats every 5th universe. Fry A travels forwards and kills Fry C, B travels forwards and kills D. This leaves E in the exact same position as A.
Once again, the "Sci" in the Sci-Fi of this episode is spot on. A hypothetical time machine would only be able to move forward, not backwards. Also, the cycling of the universe is another hypothetical that creates the "Fi" in the Sci-Fi.
this episode is amazing; futurama was not only funny, but could be really emotional and beautiful when it wanted to be.
Thanks for reminding me in the first minute how good it was back then. What a true friend 👏
You know what? Fry actually could have gone back to his original time in this episode and also had a version of him still frozen in the pod. Kinda surprised that was never brought up in the episode.
I, no-fooling, *just* finished rewatching this episode about 2 minutes before this video came up. Where's your non-god now atheists?
On both my Christian and Satanic bibles
Been binging the Futurama content. Nice timing.
Reasons I watch a Shady Doorags video.
1. Great analysis
2. food for thought
3. Good comedy
4. The closing theme is stuck in my head and I find myself humming it so I come back and watch the video just to jam out to it. At this point i probably binged like 6 videos lol
Kind of odd how now I’m seeing the aspect of everyone being in a continuous cycle. Like everyone is reborn and lives same life until they Big Bang hits again.
I mean it’s kind of a happy ending when you realize no matter what happens life will coninues, and who knows maybe their are certain differences with each version.
Kind of puts that episode “Reincarnation” in a new light.
01:03 Goddamn it man, why’d you have to remind me that an ancient one 😭😭🤣😂🤣
Great video of one my favorite episodes of Futurama
For me, Fry and Leela had the most amazing love story of all time.
No matter what, all the rejections, insults, and harsh treatment Fry was always there for her. She eventually came to see that and it was the most beautiful episode.
I put Futurama up there alongside King of the Hill is one of the best animated series on television of all time.
Fry finding out his nephew was named after him because his brother missed him so much, Fry's dog waiting on him when he was gone, just a couple of examples. There are many many more I'm having trouble remembering because I haven't seen the show in so long.
Too bad that kinda thing doesn't really happen in real life
Awesome stuff dude! I totally forgot Fry straight up told that guy time was linear xD
Just discovered your channel with this video... watched more...
Thank you for your work and content! Subscribed!
This was my favorite episode... Hands down.
At 4:20 the book with Alien text on it reads, "Backwards Time Travel Made Easy"
I guessed it was something like that cuz it looks like those Cliff's Notes books we used to have.
One of my all-time favorite episodes of one of my all-time favorite shows.
Lavender Jack...Swooping On Down.
The Professor falling over and yanking the lever was a fun joke, but for me it had never been as funny as it was necessary for the mechanics of the story. But at 7:45 I was right there with you crying with laughter because of your pointing out the earlier instance at 3:20. I knew exactly what was coming and it caught me by surprise because of your video's great pacing. Excellent!
Honestly that makes a lot of sense that disenchantment takes place in the future of Futurama.😺
The biggest issue I have with this episode is that Fransworth says that they solved the paradox by killing their copies, but technically speaking they're not FROM that timeline, or more accurately, they're slotted in a manner that won't create a time anomaly since they're actually from the distance past, history TECHNICALLY remains unchanged.
True.
Yeah, but in reality. How do you time travel again? Who's done it, what are the official laws that took over after quantum mechanics were laughed at like a stupid child made them and we made our first step into the past or the future and documented it fully? The only technical evidence you have is a bunch of fantasy, and also a bunch of theories made by scientists who specialize on theories that may never be proven. And even when they are proven, they're not proven. They just gathered enough assertion that the evidence was perceived correctly from authoritative figures in the scientific community and called it a day. The illusion being that if you can repeat a process and perceive the same thing over and over again, there will never be any other result, ever. In fact, we can see why people in society just love the platitude definition of insanity being doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. You will never know if you're doing the exact same thing, and you will never know the result wasn't different due to lacking the ability of absolute precise perceiving that would surely change your understanding of the cause and the effect of your experiment. Because that's the fallacy of "facts", they don't exist. Like a bank only loaning you money when you don't need money. If you have the collateral enmasse assertion on your side, you're good to go, and reality has no say in the matter.
And the BIGGEST problem you should have with this episode is that the time machine is said to not move through space. Which it actually does a few times, especially when they have to use it as a boat. So when they arrive at the third time cycle, the professor claims that the only difference between universe 1 and universe 3 is that the third one is about 10 feet lower than the other. He didn't claim the possibility he could have been completely wrong about it not moving through space. Or that they had gotten the precise coordinates wrong from where they started. He perceived fact instantly, assuming his initial theory was correct even though this was the maiden voyage of his time machine. He literally pulls the old, "oh my god, the universe is actually wrong and I was right" move we've seen so many times before.
Edit- Oh and he didn't even get that right, because they fell directly down. If height was the only difference, they would have fallen ON the universe 3 time machine. But instead they fell down and off to the side a bit thereby accomplishing the murder of their universe 3 selves.
They're TECHNICALLY right. The best kind of right!
If anything it might've caused more problems than it solved since now there isn't anyone to go forward into the... past, to kill them in the present.
(got I hate the semantics of time travel)
Had they arrived 2 seconds later they would have just completed the cycle and the whole process would repeat itself infinitely, allowing everyone to live and continue their lives normally.
Well... everyone except Leela A, who still had to live the rest of her life alone regardless of outcome.
Yeah so that means they died in the past so that means their future selves would cease to exist
One of my favorite and the best episode of the whole series!
Can't remember episode name but my favorite was always the one with the characters aging backwards, to me it had everything plus you got to see the characters acting even more immature.
Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurtle.
This was one of my fav episodes watched it after school in like 2011-2012 😭😂
Comedy Central basically edit scenes in Futurama
FXX shows Futurama in Full
Love your content please upload more I've already watched all your videos lol
It seems this universe is 10 feet lower than our original universe! 🤣
It was confirmed that Disenchantment does occur in the Future of Futurama
You left out one of the best jokes
Professor: don't bother slowing down, I'll just shoot Hitler out the window
Lol
I love this episode
Really enjoy your reviews. Keep up the entertaining commentaries.
"Yes, you are old".
About time to accept that.
It just might be the deviated septum talking but I can snort on command with the best of them.
It still baffles me that Fry lived and saw TWO whole Eternities!
Easily my favorite episode of Futurama. Excellent choice.
Fry: Sorry I'm a billion years late.
Shady: Ackshually 🤓
Shady Doorags: Which Futurama episode should I do...
God that atheists are convinced doesn't exist: *cracks knuckles* I'mma 'bout to end this man's career
Honestly man? You’re videos are some of the best I see on TH-cam at this point. You’re writing is hella good man, I’m thankful I’ve found this great channel lol
Amazing job Shady, keeping me entertained as always 👍
Its clever for the way they wrapped up the end of time back to the beginning big bang. On my top 20
He was late. He was Philip J. Frye. He was even a “The”. Just like his nephew, named after his dear uncle and whom the family missed every day.
Shady, your production quality has improved even more lately. Just your segues from one scene to the next for example are great!
You know, I saw the video and decided to watch it, and when I saw you pop up on screen I was ecstatic. Complete accident because I wasn't paying attention to who the creator was, but the video drew me in, lol
FRY LIED TO THAT GUY
I literally burst out laughing irl
1:25 even though we haven’t seen him be tarty until now.
This genuinely made me cry the first time I watch it
And this was my first experience of Futurama
i love this show a lot
And thanks to this video I learned there was a part 4 of Disenchantment; that's what I get for almost never logging into Netflix.
Shady, this video was hilarious. Not saying the others aren't but I had to stop the video multiple times to enjoy my laugh or think about what you said. As usual though, very nice work.
Love the song in the year
Technically though time is linear for the human race at one point though in Futurama because their Universe size and they cannot go back to it and in the episode where they go backwards it was a anomaly caused by two exploding stars and tin foil being placed in a nuclear microwave so I think the odds of that happening again are very slim
This is a very interesting episode if you think about it (not say it’s uninteresting without thought). Everything we see happen with Leela and Fry in previous episodes doesn’t matter because the version of Leela we see in episodes before this one lives without Fry. Kinda sad (I may be misreading things but this is my interpretation)
Now Shady just has to cover I know What You Did Next XMAS so he can explain those time travel shenanigans
About that...
That time travel song is a bop though
Amy's book having no words is actually a thing used in a lot of cartoons when the animators can't be bothered to put in scribbly lines as words.
I actually love this episode BECAUSE it is as sad as it is, what a fkng masochist 😂
I just think it has the greatest punch in the gut with the message Leela gave him in the cave, that moment is carved in the cave… and in the depths of my soul😢❤
I love Leela, she's my favorite of all of the cast bc of how sincere, unapollogetic, determined, yet soft and sweet, loving and gentle, that she CAN be.
She's a very multifaceted character, so this sort of episodes mean the world to me once i watched the first time, the more sad and touching, the better😢❤❤❤
its just really well executed lol
I don't know why "Fry lied to that guy!" was so funny to me xD
Despite knowing about the time machine easter egg in Disenchantment, I somehow never considered that it was past the year 3000. Neat.
Could you imagine going through what they did, and thinking of it like doorags. Where you go so far into the future that you relive a universal history that’s nearly identical to your home universe and to know that Logically speaking the people you love and are with are not actually your real loved ones, just an identical one? and on top of that, you know that everyone you loved and cared about will most likely believe that you disappeared and maybe some of them don’t receive any closure about your absence.
Surprised you stopped watching Disenchantment. There’s so much fodder for criticism. It’s like Becker, all the pieces are there, but they could just never put them together.
That's why I stopped watching it. It constantly wasted time, retconned things and then left on unnecessary cliff hangers. I didn't like being jerked around, especially when I don't even like the protagonist.
3:55 I'm convinced you just said this to make me snort and look like a dumbass...it worked. I did
So if Disenchantment takes place in the Futurama universe some time after the year 3000, and Dreamland is where New New York used to be, does that mean Cavern on the Green and Leela's message is somewhere in Dreamland too since they survived until after all life on Earth went extinct?
not to mention the Galactic Gordian Knot of a paradoxical chrono loop that was Absolutely NOT resolved.
I love your koth vids, your bh vids, and futurama vids! Great content!
"You don't sign it, you leave a nude video greeting!"
"Does it have to be nude?"
"Huh, I guess not. I never really thought about it."
For some reason the video isn't loading for me. I'm just going to assume that it was funny, thoughtful, insightful and enjoyable to watch so I will leave a like anyway.
There's a great throw away joke where the professor stops the machine to shoot Hitler and when they go back around again he tries to shoot out the window. When he gets back in he us upset that he winged Eleanor Roosevelt instead.
You calling me old just slapped another 20 years on me.
I appreciate the title of this video.
Shady called Fry & Leela A and C, I like that because the plot of Benders big score means theres a Fry B (technically the one in the episode is Fry B since the original one from the shows beginning (Lars) is dead) though there isn't a Leela B in this formula that I can recall.
I'd happily enjoy more Futurama is thats where your doing Shady
I’ve always thought they can go back to the girls who had the backwards Time Machine and go all the way back to the first universe instead of going forward.
Same
Yes...it is about time
One of the greater newer episodes
3:09 Sorry for having to be a stalk of celery. Technically, no, Bender's Big Score doesn't say that you can change the past, the downside of the time code is that whatever paradox that was created by the code had to be resolved/destroyed, reverting things back to how they were, take a look at Decision 3012 for an example (TLDR, time traveling politician uses time code to beat President Nixon in presidential election to prevent his Bender Terminator future, but was erased from existence due to grandfather paradox).
Only thing I don't like about this episode is that the original Leela, the one we've seen throughout the entire series, still died lonely and depressed while Fry gets a replacement in the later universe like it never happened
bro I never knew that the aged Leela was visible right when Fry dropped his card. Learned something new today
also the line "sorry I'm a billion years late" hits hard for me, cause I have a track record of being late on a lot of things
Clicked for the top tier title.
Shady, I love your content. That's all.
Somwhere around 6:33 you must've edited wrong or cut out shortly. Nonetheless great video. You inspire me to do more with my own TH-cam channel. Also highly recommend BANG energy drinks for anyone out there
That's part of the joke, my dude.
@@ShadyDoorags went straight over my head. I thought it might be but Im not the best with jokes I love puns though
I think the professor saying you can't was more that you won't because of the limit of only going forward in time, not that you can't do it, since I swear there's another instance of something in the past affecting the future in some way in Futurama, besides Bender's Big Score and that whole thing
im in deep thought over how time works what if im on like my 8th loop of my entire life and every mistake i have made and will make are unchangeable due to fate.
This was the first Futurama episode I ever watched
I had no idea this episode existed but now I must watch it for myself!
You're my favorite TH-camr, you deserve so many more subs! I share your videos with my friends constantly 😅
I don't have anything interesting to say but ik comments really help the video so here we are lol
This episode gets even weirder when you consider the reset in the last episode.
Fry A is analogues to fry b since they missed the second loop, but (I might be remembering this wrong) fry b is in a loop with no hitler, so his timeline might be completely different, so fry d would be effected by a fry b who's history is altered...assuming that that alteration still leads to fry going to the future and fry still going further in the future with Farnsworth afterward
Also the leela we watched from the first episode up until this one didn't get to live with fry
Picks random episodes.
Just so happens to pick the Emmy winning episode.
WHY did i snort, i though ‘maybe thats a trap’ but was like nah, i gotta try it
