- I recently finished playing Final Fantasy 1, and was immediately inspired to record the complete soundtrack. It's classic Uematsu, and the foundation to many of his later compositions. My favorite track in all Final Fantasy happens to be in this set: Matoya's Cave!
Thank you to David Wintz for his editing skills to create such a wonderful video!
Composed by the one and only Nobuo Uematsu.

Just recovered all my hp/mp just from listening to this masterpiece! ❤
But you're still hungry! 😉
:)
@@KaraComparettoThere were a ton of adds and they were very poorly placed. Did someone claim your video?
Usually you’ll see music attribution in the description if it was claimed or permission was given.
It’s much better to give a creator $1 than to sit through 1000 ads on their channel and then use something to block the ads.
❤good one. This brings back so many memories. The original ff
Our dear white mage is here to heal our souls.
May everyone who is touched by this music feel peace and love in their hearts.
No exaggeration, I waited well over a decade for someone to post FF1 piano songs, let alone a full soundtrack. THANK YOU, WHITE MAGE!!! ❤❤❤
oh wow! Yeah I felt like it needed a piano rendition of the entire thing, im not sure anyone has done it like this before!!
I can confirm that you are the first and it's incredibly appreciated. I've already watched the entire thing three times up to now lol 😆
Just hearing the simple, original version of the Theme - without any orchestration or additions it's had over the iterations - is just what I need to reduce me to tears. God, such a beautifully gentle tune, yet it carries such a weight. The hopes and the prayers of the game creators accompany this theme, bringing with them a sense of totality, and Uematsu-san captured it impeccably. If you really focus on every stroke of the ivory key, you can feel how each and every member of that team felt when releasing this game for the very first time, even from way back when...
Thank you for this uplifting comment
That was beautifully said. Games are so soulless these days, despite the incredible graphics. These humble little pixelated JRPGS still have a large place in my heart, and make me feel things I haven't felt since I was a kid. The designers who created the first 4 FF games, and Chrono Trigger were one of a kimd, and managed to turn a nintendo game into a storied work of nostalgic art.
What a fantastic tribute she's done with these arrangements. It's silly, but I got happy little tears at the first bars.
The game that started it all.. What an adventure it's been!
It’s all these melodies we know and love but in HD on real instruments
How fun and satisfying it must be to learn these…
Absolutely :)
I think the piano works very well with 8-bit soundtracks
Wow, Kara Comapretto's performance of the Final Fantasy I soundtrack as a white mage is truly amazing! The attention to detail in her costume and the flawless execution of the music really takes me back to my own childhood playing the game. It's so heartwarming to see someone so talented sharing their passion with the community in such a professional and touching way. Keep up the great work, Kara! You are truly inspiring.
thank you so much Johnny, I won't stop!
How funny that this video appeared on my feed when I've been playing Final Fantasy 14😂. Kara, you're such an amazing pianist! Would you teach me? I only know how to play one-handed😅
Kara is using soft spell on my heart, it is melting whith her so beautifully playing all these songs, is easy a soundtrack for any marriage. THANK YOU FOR THIS LOVELY AND NOSTALGIC PIECE OF ART.
Careful, don't forget how many spells were broken in FF1
Hearing this takes me back to what feels like 2000 years ago!
Matoya's theme is enjoyable, isn't it? I like what you did with the Dungeon theme. The 'Sunken Shrine' has given me chills ever since first hearing it! And the Ending Theme on organ made me tear up!
Thank you, Nobuo Uematsu. And thank you, Kara Comparetto.
Thank you Thomas! You mentioned the tracks that I absoutely love too!
When I listen to this it reminds me that life is good. Wonderfully played, thank you Kara.
I feel so bad because I found Kara just now and not earlier. I hope that I can hear (and see) you performing on a big stage one day.
Thank You Kara, for all the passion you put in your performances.
This one right here is another masterpiece.
You found her. That's all that matters.
I'm so glad you finally found me!!!

Sometimes the algorithm offers some wonderful stuff :-)
So many of these early FF tracks are woven into the fabric of my soul. Your rendition of the Shop Theme especially had me smiling, it's such a fun little tune. Also, the cosplay was spot on; the red trim is so iconic.
I hope you plan to continue with the rest of the franchise. Many people love the soundtracks of 4. 6. 7, 10 and rightly so, they're masterpieces, but I like the soundtrack for 3 and it doesn't get enough love.
What about 8? The extreme is so good.
Ff4 which i knew as "2", it's permanently imprinted in my brain as favorite of all time. I hope it gets a similar treatment!
3 is definitely overlooked. IMO, it has the best overworld theme
3 is quite good indeed
6 (3 when I was a kid on snes) she has done. And it's masterful
Fantastic as always, Kara! Thank you! I'm also a huge fan of Matoya's cave!
Never realized FF1 soundtrack was THAT good!
Airship theme always lifts my spirits, especially when I first lift it out of the desert in the game.
Finally something that isn't FF7. It's kinda refreshing to hear, really.
Putting this huge medley together is such an incredible achievement, amazing work!
Thank you for this trip back in time...the late 80s, when things were much simpler. I remember the first time watching my dad play Final Fantasy 1 in the living room on our giant (deep, not wide lol) old school TV (I was more into the action, side scrollers, he loves the RPGs).
That was me too, I loved the platformers, side scrollers, my brother loved the RPGs :)
Maybe I'm lame but I actually had to pause this video a couple times to avoid being overwhelmed with emotion, especially with those first three songs. Some of my earliest memories are of playing this at 5-6 years old. I can appreciate the fancier modern takes on these but this simple performance just instantly transported me back to a time that I can otherwise barely remember. Such beautiful renditions!
Thank you! Sometimes simpler is better on the piano, I wholeheartedly agree :)
The white mage getup definitely represents the healing & light your music brings to the world. 😍 This performance is a good example
thank you Dave!! :D
I still remember being eleven years old and beating this game for the first time. Replayed it many times since then. I'm 43 now, and I still remember all the music! This was beautifully done!
I tried playing it as a kid and I got lost XD there was no internet then so I couldn't figure out what to do. It wasn't till last year that I finally beat it first time !
I'm so glad to see this premiere time. This will make my spring cleaning so much more enjoyable tomorrow!
See you then!!
The prelude is engraved so deep in my soul that I literally got shivers with the first few notes 😬. Thanks Mage! ❤
BTW, this definitely got my HP up for the day! 😜
@@MauricioMouradaSilva hahaha yay!!
I just did a run on the pixel remaster this week! Perfect timing.
Condidering the conditions he was working under (he was given 30 minutes to compose the Prelude!) Nobuo is a mad genius on FF1. Thank you so much for this!
Oh I didn't know that about the prelude, wow!
Lovely music and playing Kara.
I always write what i think about music in comments, but this time i must say some words about the pianist: the first frames of this video are stunning. White mage Kara is really beautiful xD
Hahaha thank you! I have really enjoyed putting silent introductions in my videos, I feel like it pulls the viewer in! :)
The first Final Fantasy is my favorite episode of the saga.
The simplicity of its refined melodies makes it particularly endearing.
Your impeccable interpretation allows me to dive back into this friendly atmosphere and I thank you for that.
The piano/organ alternation brings welcome diversity.
Thank you Gabb, this means a lot!! Love your descriptions :)
One of my favorite soundtracks performed by one of my favorite TH-cam musicians. I look forward to listening to this many times as I work from my home office. Much appreciation for sharing this.
Thank you, hope you added to your playlists! :)
Looking forward to hearing Chaos Temple, the final dungeon theme, and the final boss theme! Even back at the beginning, FF has had the best music!
Thank you, I'm excited for the premiere! I should clarify that this is the ORIGINAL Final Fantasy Soundtrack, which means it doesn't include extras from the pixel remaster- though... the Church theme might be from the pixel remaster. I can't remember XD
@@KaraComparetto Because I read 'the final dungeon theme' sentence, could you in the future consider to make the cover of the 'credits' song for the TV cartoon "dungeons and dragons"?
I had a bit of a long day/night today, and I needed to relax. Having this in the background really helped me, speaking from the perspective of a Major FF Fan this was a beautiful soothing playthrough.
Thank you for these covers, it helped me today 🔆
Thank you, glad it helped you relax! :)
These songs mean so much to all of us, thank you for taking the time to grace us with such mastery. Your ability with music is like God speaking through the piano, any number of words I wrote could not express even the shadow of gratitude for being able to appreciate your work in our lifetime. thank you.
thank you so much
A beautiful performance that was clearly a labour of love! Amazing renditions. It made me emotional many times. Thank you for your work!
So glad you loved it, thank you Daniel :)
It's impressive how even this early soundtrack has many ideas that can be instantly identified as Uematsu. Lovely playing here too.
He's one of a kind!
The white mage we need but don't deserve. Thank you so much Kara for your passion you put into this.
What you do with that music is unmatched. And that is saying something considering how many people play it.
wow thank you
This is the soundtrack to sixth grade for me. I saved up money raking leaves just to be able to afford this game, and I played it so much that the music is etched into the deepest part of my nostalgic brain as a result. I play piano also (nowhere near this well!) and now I want to learn at least a couple of these tracks.
The original sound version sheet music is available online for free, and is quite simple if you ever wanted to try it out! I used them too, just improvised on many of them :)
It has been nearly twenty years now since I first heard that main menu theme on my GBA in the Dawn of Souls version of Final Fantasy.
It sounds even more magical now than it did then.
brings back so many memories!
Kara always delivers! 😎Very well played and put together album, I loved the transitions between each song.
thank you Jake!!
This takes me WAAAAYYY back. Nice. Thanks Kara!
I respect you a lot for sticking to your passion years on. It takes a lot to keep liking one thing like Piano and RPG games and following through without falling for the many news fads and trends. Humans living in the future will see us by our tastes, the things we did, what we created and what we worshiped. In my opinion as Generation Z is changing the planet's landscape in terms of what is trending: being an enthusiast and preserving the culture of a certain time is what will make it live in the memories. Much like Chopin, Mozart and Beethoven did in their time for their music; the music of the present includes magic from Nobuo Uematsu, Koji Kondo, Yasunori Mitsuda, Yoko Shimomura, Grant Kirkhope, David Wise, Tim Follin and the many other geniuses from the scoring of videogames that became a new medium to rival the orchestra, much like film did a couple of decades before it. Let's hope younger generations can also understand the magic of this once specific retro-era that slowly fades into the cyber-present? x)
haha yep, sometimes I think "is this even gonna get any views, I'm recording music from 30 years ago" XD but then I just stick with it and I realize there ARE people who appreciate these masterpieces! thank you for your thoughtful comment!
@@KaraComparetto It's like playing "oldies" :D
I don't say this lightly: You did an incredible job with this, even considering the decades of covers and arrangements and remixes.
Thank you
the music for those games is so good
Beautiful job Kara, just loving it. Transitions into Cornelia Castle and the Village Theme...So powerful. Absolutely wonderful...Haha and the shop theme. Love it.
thank you!!
This made me so happy. 😊 I love the white mage costume.
You're a treasure, Kara. I'm so glad you exist in this world. 😊😊
Thank you 😭😭😭❤❤
My day and every day after this has been made just because I know this exists and I can always come back and listen to your amazing renditions of music from my favorite video game of all time. Thank you so much
thank you so much, I'm glad you saved it and come back to it, that's what I love!
Incredible. I can only imagine how much fun it is to be able to play those songs with that much skill. Cool white mage suit!
Thank you Matty!!
Shop, Chaos Temple and Matoya´s cave are lovely melodies
Yes my favorites!
My 4mo loved this :) she was mesmerized all the way to the end
That's so sweet ah!
I love your work, you are incredibly talented. Final Fantasy has always been my reference in music and your channel has inspired me to learn to play my favorite pieces on the keyboard, of course I'm still green but it starts somewhere 😅.
That's awesome!! Music is a never-ending journey, you'll never "arrive" but you have to enjoy every moment of it to stay motivated!!
The original Final Fantasy will always have a soft spot in my heart. Like you said in the comments, the foundations for Uematsu's later masterpieces starts here, and the ending theme to this game is one of my absolute favorites of his. As always, your renditions are fantastic.
Yes the ending theme is just so good! thank you!
I love how you played Matoya's cave, that's probably my favorite FF1 exclusive theme!
It's mine as well!
I just finished FF1 myself and am running through Stranger of Paradise. This dropped at the perfect time. I'm really enjoying it.
Wonderful! I played it recently too, the music was just so inspiring!!
You're amazing. The music was always truly what set Final Fantasy apart from it's competitors. I love your White Mage robe!
Thank you!! :D
Ah yes, the battle theme. Feed that into my veins.
Thank you for helping me to relive so many awesome memories! I first saw the box for Final Fantasy on the shelves at a local video store and just knew I had to play it.
I poured hours into that game and the memories from all the wonderful 8-bit music as my Nintendo happily beeped and chirped along will always be a part of that adventure!
I really love your renditions of the music from the game. It's incredible to hear it fully realized on piano and organ! Thank you for sharing this with all of us.
Love hearing people's childhood experiences, thanks for sharing yours!
The world is better with you in it Kara! 🥰
Thank you
Ah, such a lovely performance from start to finish. I always really enjoyed the Prelude, so this had me hooked right from the start. I could listen to that all by itself on loop for hours probably, but I'm glad I kept going to enjoy the whole soundtrack.
That's so nice, I was sad you missed the premiere Philip, thank you for your support as always!!
I almost never comment. Life's tough lol. One of my favourite videos ever ever still is To Far Away Times, like, 8 years ago. The sweater you're wearing and everything, feels so Christmassy, feels like Im home again.
Love this video too of course!
Hope this message gets to you! Thanks!!
Aw wow! You’ve been around a long time, thank you for your support!! And keep commenting!! :)
@@KaraComparetto it feels cozy.
You look so majestic as the White Mage and you’ve done another fascinating job with the soundtrack for another eternal classic. ❤️ I hope this video also does great and goes extremely well for you. My pointed yellow hat is off to you 💛
I hope it does too, thank you for commenting!!
So amazingly beautiful.
Superlative and sensitive piano playing; a real inspiration to pianists-in-training like me. These FF1 pieces hold up great today, almost 40 years later. Uematsu hit it out of the park.
Yes he did! Hope you continue to enjoy your musical journey!!
Ear-witness this musical fantasy!
I have never played a FF game but the OST is dope.
Oh wow!! you have work to do ;)
I can see the locations in my mind; wild.
You've captured the true spirit of Final Fantasy completely and deeply, excellent performance!
Thank you Chris
Awesome Final Fantasy 1 COMPLETE Soundtrack ~ Piano and Organ Video.
9:43 Maybe my favorite overworld theme, it's so happy and upbeat
It is, and in the very first FF too!
You're the master among masters miss Kara =) ganbareee!!!!
I really feel like the prelude of 13 (the middle bit) is just as good as the Main Theme of Final Fantasy, and could easily have been that timeless piece we all love. Similarly the "chorus" of Dear Friends has the same quality
Final Fantasy 1 Main Theme
Final Fantasy 1 Prelude
^will be in our hearts forveer
yes it will
This whole video is a masterpiece. Beautiful to see how your hands travel through the keyboard so effortlessly on this beautiful soundtrack
I just beat Final Fantasy 1 again a few months back. It was great to go down memory lane with a much harder team. It's amazing how advanced the music is/was for it's time on 8 bits & how it touched me & so many other people to the point of tears. Whenever I hear it I am not only a kid again, but I see flashbacks of all the important parts of the stories in my mind & all the emotions, sacrifices, hard work, & triumphs as if I'm right there again.
I wish everyone could experience that feeling just once. I've tried to get others into it but they are not interested unfortunately so I will have to simply watch & enjoy this alone for now. It's nice to see there are so many people out there who do appreciate it. I wish we could all make a little city & just roleplay all day 😂
Our primary export would be culture ;)
Hahaha that’s how I felt about creating this video, no one cares enough 😂 but I think I got a lot of people like you to find it, hopefully more will! Thanks for sharing your story 😊
Some of the music here gives me goosebumps lol. Love it all.
So Beautifully done!! I still can't believe this little video game (that was supposed to be their last as a company) had such an amazing soundtrack that will live on forever. Uematsu truly is one of the greats!
Who ever expected it to turn into XVI of them! hahaha
Once again, love the work on this. You are a great player, letting me revisit the classics without the need to play through what is these days a bit of a slog. Nostalgia factor with a fun musician to watch play. The white mage outfit puts it over the top. Thanks for the gift. Cheers.
Thank you Jeffrey!!
And with those first few notes someone let a ton of dust into my room. Sweet, nostalgic dust. Beautiful. I've been a big fan of the Final Fantasy piano albums for years and years and I don't recall there being one for Final Fantasy 1, and this would be perfectly at home with the rest of them. Great job! I've subscribed and will happily watch anything else you do! Oh, and thanks for this. I've been a Final Fantasy fan since 1988, and I remember the first day I saw the game at the local video rental. I took it home, played it and fell in love with the game, having followed it since 1988. This music brings up so more more than just memories of the game, but memories of my entire life, since FF has been woven into it for the past 30+ years. ❤
(And you look lovely in that WHM costume!! 😍)
I just love to hear people's stories, thank you for yours!!
I'm in love with "Chaos Temple", my favorite track of FF1.
Amazing executions overall.
I love that one too!
I love how you have continued to progress in your skills in transitioning between songs. And I know how much practice you must be doing to become so proficient in these performances. As a former musician, I truly believe there is a place for you amongst the great piano performers of our time. Thank you for sharing your talents with us so freely and willingly!
I play the piano SO MUCH these days, I've really honed my skills the way I want them to be :) though I've been recording the undertale soundtrack this week and man.. it's hard haha! Thank you!!
Very lovely. Glad I made the priemer for a change!
glad you made it too!!
Wow I could listen to the Prelude all day.
Amazing job as always Kara. Your performance gave me so much nostalgia for the game. My 1st experience with this game was on the old PS1 collection FF Origins. Quite late into the legacy of FF, but it still left a mark, & I love this game & its OST. It's so easy to see the legacy it left that's still going today. Keep up the good work Kara, & I can't wait to see/hear you play more classic FF soundtracks. Also, absolutely love you White Mage costume.
Thanks for sharing your experience! mine is funny- I played about half of it as a kid and got stuck right before getting the airship. I didn't play it again till this past year and finally beat it! :D
@@KaraComparetto Yeah, finding the airship was a pain without some sort of guide back then. I do have my own funny moment in the game that I remember pretty well. I think it was in Origins, with that or the Dawn of Souls version. It was during my fights against Tiamet 1 time. I had heard that it was susceptible to status effects, so I tried Break on it. Got it 1st try against the 1st fight against the boss. I was shocked that it actually worked, especially 1st try. From my experience, status effects like that usually take multiple attempts on bosses.
Absolutely LOVED the organ renditions, of course the piano pieces were outstanding as well! I had heard Matoya a few times on your streams and maybe a couple of pieces more from FF but in general I knew little about its music. I can say my favorite one now is the End Theme, sounds gorgeous on organ. Well done, Kara ❤
Thank you Willy, I saw another comment of yours about the end theme, that made me so happy, because it's truly one of the best ones in this album, came out so lovely and sounds so amazing on the organ!! thank you!!
Another legendary performance by Kara. Thanks for the music!
Thank you Jeff!
Kara, I loved how you captured the dual-layer of the prelude, something FF1 still has on the other games. It's the first thing many of us ever heard playing FF, so thank you for taking us back there. :)
Loved the mellower Chaos Temple/Sea Shrine arrangement (my fave track from this game). And Matoya's Cave theme is always awesome. You're so good at this.
oh interesting, I didnt' know those layers were exclusive to FF1, I love that!!
This is beautiful beyond what words can express. I feel transported back to my childhood thank you so much Kara!
Thank you
Matoyas cave was always my favorite song from this game. But after listening to your covers of the Chaos Temple and Sunken Shrine that might change. This is an amazing tribute to a classic sound track.
oh yeah those are so great, I agree! I will always love Matoya best though :)
The main theme in organ is one of the best things you've done. It sounds incredible. Definitely something I didn't know I needed. Gonna need this as a ringtone now 😊
Wow thank you Rich! Yes I loveee how the organ portrayed that one- I use a software called Hauptwerk which lets you use different organs from around the world on your own home organ. That organ was called "Azzio" and is an Italian organ!
Bringing back childhood memories. Great job.
Your music performances are true masterpieces every time. With every video, you are touching so many of our lives in a positive way.
I'm so glad for that
thanks for all the hard work producing another complete soundtrack for all of us to enjoy! 😀
It's my pleasure! Recording the complete undertale soundtrack this week haha!
Ah, nostalgia. Very well done.
You're doing God's work
Thank you for your talent ❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉. Brought back my Childhood.
I didn't even read the title cause I was so hyped to listen even though I have not played FF1. It's incredible how many tracks I am able to recognise through their motifs (and how amazing they sound on the organ). Incredible work as always Kara (both in performance and cosplay)!
I love hearing you were hyped to listen even though you haven't played the game!! :)
Beautiful as always dear Kara.
It is always a pleasure and a pleasure to listen to you and see you play 😸
I'm surprised that even though the music in the first ff1 is pretty basic, it's still super enjoyable.
What will be the next Final Fantasy???✨✨✨
I can't wait 😁
greetings from Mexico 😸
Greetings from New Hampshire, thank you Luis!! Final Fantasy VII will be next! :O
Thank you!! White mage for life
Ahhh you went with the piano opera prelude! The best one! The harmonies are incredible, and you played it beautifully!
Yes I love the harmonies, tougher to play but worth it!!
Hi Kara, you are the greatest VGM piano player out there and I love your cosplay!
ahhhh!!!
