Ah crap. Someone give this man a hug, stat! Anyway, we're all on your side, so don't feel that you're letting anyone down - totally understandable, especially as you say if more is going on in life. You look after yourself, let the shoulders down, and just focus on what you need to. Cheers!
You didn't edit that. You just did twelve heartfelt, passionate, informative and truly classic minutes directly to camera. Best TH-cam presenter I've ever seen.😎
I can see how emotionally attached to this car you are. You have worked so hard fixing the problems and it's obvious it's been very hard work. Now is the time to move on but just make sure she goes to a deserving new home, maybe someone else on TH-cam, I can think of the perfect person, someone you are already doing work for 😊 I hope you can sort out your own personal situation too 👍 keep up the great work 😊
…also, I’m genuinely sorry to hear about the stress going on elsewhere in your life. You really do make some of the most, funny, frustrating, educational and above all fascinating films on great cars. I’m in no doubt everything will be ok!!! Keep strong AND have a great trip❤
I know what you mean. I recently sold my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I had for nine years. I loved that truck. As a daily driver, it was finally time for me to thriw in the towel. Cheer Up! There is an owner for that car to give it the care it needs.
The second major issue with my C6 was water pump failure (the first was the ancillary pumps bracket snapping on its first trip with me as its owner). A local mechanic replaced it but unfortunately, he snapped a stud and just secured it (secretly) with two bolts and a ton of mastic. 8 years, a ton of blind alleys, a second donor C6 and eventually a replacement engine later, it's been driving all over the UK for 7 months. Touch wood. *My new engine tray has been hanging up on my garage wall for 7 years. I might be confident enough to finally fit it this year. You're going to keep it. It's easier to quit crack than a C6. **If you flog it, you will be giving someone else the benefit of all the work you've done to it.
Feel for you. It’s that gut wrenching moment when you realise “it’s just not working out”. You have been an exemplary custodian and I hope you can reflect later on the “good times” 👏👏
Gonna be the best road trip ever, now that you’ve placed her firmly on the Naughty Step - enjoy every moment of the trip Kitch - you never know, you might just change your mind !?! Safe travels JCHK
I said before a car that looks so fantastic but the mechanical package puts me off. Most modern cars put me off not just the C6. There was a guy locally who owned one. What a site. Buuutt LOOK AT IT. ❤ Forgot about that rear window.
Well done on sticking through it… what a slap in the face to get a leaky pump gasket after you had explained how you were going to lube it first to make sure it went in correctly without damage. Hopefully the french trip was successful and enjoyable, and the C6 will find a new owner who will pamper and appreciate it like Cecily the C5 Estate’s new custodian…
I've always been an advocate for keeping the C6, but if it's causing you misery, it has to go. I will be sad to see the this car leave the fleet but don't forget, it's YOUR fleet, you're in charge, you call the shots. We're along for the ride and grateful for being here, no matter what you choose to get up on the ramp.
Yep been there, this is the very last time I fix my car, but they get under your skin . If the C6 behaves itself whilst in France I reckon she’s a keeper….so classy looking
Been there Kitch - you have a car you really like but there just comes a moment when another problem appears or another bill raises its head and you think thats it I am done........ then you have to be brave and follow through and rid yourself of the thing thats dragging you down. You can't get all soppy and decide to change your mind it nerves of steel time and send it up the road - you will feel cleansed mate I promise you. Your other half must have been paying attention during that engineering lecture. Your life, your decisions and for what seems to me very sound reasoning. If I could just edit Edith Piaf out of my head now. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, as emotional as they might seem to some viewers.
A good decision Richard. I've had cars where they've peed me off once too often and the niggle in the back of the head when I subsequently drove them ruined what I liked about the car in the first place. You'll find it a relief once it's gone. Best of luck, prioritise what matters.
Never really made my mind up what I've thought about the C6 but because it has the clever suspension I find it brilliant, and to hear your having issues behind scenes and at home I am truly sorry to hear it chin up dude am sure you and your other half can work through it. P.s keep up good work
Like you will be, I was bereft when I let my 3.0HDi go, because it was flawless and gorgeous, but both my 2.7s were a delight to get rid of. And you’re dead right about the ride comfort being not a patch on the older cars that you mentioned. My last Citroën before my foray into C6s was a 2006 C5 (S2) 1.6HDi estate, and its ride was far superior. That said, the C6 absolutely will outcorner so many other pseudos (TT/S3 Quattros) out there. Many’s the time I’ve run rings around Quattros on roundabouts, taking them on the outside line. Hydractive III+ is very much a compromise…
I for one will be sad to see it go. It’s been on my bucket list for too long but appreciate I’m not paying out the costs you are. Hope you enjoy your quick stop over in France. You will have many memories (and videos) of owning your C6.
Understandable to be honest. Even a tdv6 discovery is an absolute ball ache to work on with that engine. Never mind that engine mounted transversely. Got yourself a little c1 to go to work. And save your Dosh.
You are absolutely right, once a car has got in your head and you’ve sort of got to the point where you can barely look at it, walk away. The answer to keeping yourself sane is knowing when to cut your losses.
Tears will be shed. I'm not really massively into French car honestly but the C6 is the reason I started watching your channel. It's a beautiful car, so unique. I guess it's not for you now though, all those short journeys in a big diesel just doesn't make sense and will probably lead to more issues in the future. Try not to cry too much, hopefully it will go to a good home. I have grown to love all the content on your channel and will continue to subscribe and enjoy your output.
Love this car, always reminds me of a spaceship. I might be wrong as not up with everything Citroën, but to me the C6 was of an era of when Citroën were exciting, innovative and not following everyone else. Cars for me give me a head ache, and not mechanically minded like your good self. Thanks for all your great content. Look forward to your future content.
Wow, that car has been a challenge to say the least. You can pass it in on head held high after your improvements and efforts. Most people would not have been so dedicated. Hope you have a lovely time in France, you’ve earned a relaxing break.
I can feel your pain Rich. You're right in seeing it go to a new home, which should be easier now you've fixed the problems it had. Take care & stay safe!
If it's any consolation I am going through this with a Peugeot 407 SV V6 with only 96,000kms on it that is serving me up problems at a rate of 2 new issues to every 1 I fix. Latest is the cam covers/cam boxes leaking oil on to the exhaust! I am just wanting to get it back to a place where there are no issues so I can sell it, but it won't let me! I think the engineers went crazy at this period in PSA with new tech, lots of it without any thought or regard for keeping it alive down the track! I can't wait to move it on and start work on my 1985 BX 16TRS and deal with more mundane issues.
You've tried your best with the C6 and hopefully saved it. Clearly it's no longer the car for you so sell it and move on you have other cars to soend your time on. Thanks for the videos of it though I have enjoyed watching them plus your other videos of course.
As someone who owns a 2.0hdi C5 (X7) exclusive, if you can find one of those or a petrol one at a good price with the hydractive suspension, you'll be much happier. Much easier to fix and are cheaper to run. Sad seeing the C6 go
Oh man, I'm so sorry for you, I can imagine the pain as I recently lost my beloved 156 after 9 years of ownership. Hopefully things get better soon. Also, I believe C6 is a kind of car you just can't omit some of the maintenance- your cooling system adventures proves it.
Ok Rich, I can see how much this is hurting you so I won't go on about keeping her like I usually do. But please try and not let just anyone take her, try to see she goes to a good home. She deserves it and so do you after all the blood, sweat and tears you've put in. I hope you get your personal situation sorted out soon too. I love your content and can't wait to see some on Clement and the SM. Have a great break and just try and enjoy it. You've truly deserved it!
I hope you and you're family enjoyed the French break. You were definitely ready for it after the C6 ordeal. I can tell you're still quite torn over it. Take care.
Had thje same leak problem on my Xantia V6 - heater matrix, then radiator, then de gassing bottle thing (stupid design that was), then, yup, water pump. Finally once rpetty much everything was renewed, it stopped leaking. BUT, tin worm started playing.
Well, that's sad. And the fights and cursing add to the intensity of the relationship. But I think you're doing the right thing (he says, being prepared for you to come back from France and say you can't do without it). FWIW tomorrow I'm trading in the nicest driving little car I've ever had for something boring, but viable for getting in and out of. We really shouldn't get that attached to cars.
Ouch. A difficult conclusion but I'm sure the right one to draw in the circumstances. This will come across as a terrible pun , but I can see it has been draining, and as you rightly point out, something that can and will happen with many a car other than the C6.
@@UPnDOWN it's about the only thing I knew about that engine, having looked for the oil seal and hoping it existed outside of Japan. Well until your excellent video that is.
Mmm well it's been great from this side of the world. You just don't see them here but it's like all modern cars I really think there are too many plastics in the engine bay. It's like that clip that you pointed out great when the car is being built on a production line but trying to replace it after who knows how many heat cycles while it's in place AHHHHH NO! So after all you've been through I understand how you must feel. Have a great time in France with it and some great content for the channel and re-asses I know you'll make the correct decision. Good luck mate hope the hand has healed.🇦🇺
Hope you find a path forward with better days, even if it means less cars and less youtube. Take care, and if you feel sanity growing too much you always have your SM.
Really sad, hope you get a trouble free run to France - and back - out of it. Looking down the tearful comments there are some pretty good ideas. One I liked most was store it and use a couple of months a year. It isn't worth much now but another 10 years may make a difference. If you come back smiling you might want to consider changing engine for the 4 cylinder 2.2.diesel and 6 speed auto - the base engine for the C6 - or the 3 litre petrol, which I watched you driving, although this engine can be very economical on long trips it's a greedy sod round town. At worse you have a BX and thus you have it all really.
That was obviously a difficult video to shoot. I get it. I just made the same decision around one of my fleet and I have been shocked at just how much it has affected me. But the memories are there. Take time to savour them. It’s an itch that needed scratching. If you hadn’t taken the C6 on you’ll forever be having a nagging voice in your head. You’ve scratched that itch so maybe it’s time to scratch another ( or maybe indulge yourself with Clement to get you further down the road to SM pilotage )
I knew this was coming as youve been chucking hints in the last few videos that youd had enough of the shenanigans with it, there just doesnt seem to be a pay off either economny or reliability to make it a going concern such a shame as your spirited enough to want to keep it going, you have a gift that many dont have and would have quit long before you did. fingers are crossed for the Trip , looking forward to what you think when you return back to blighty take care. Geoff Buys cars has just released a video where he goes to see a Citroen Collection going up for sale there is a very nice RHD CX 2.5 Turbo Diesel and a couple of RHD XMs rare as rocking horse poo.
Hats off for your perseverance. Was thinking: if this was the original waterpump, when was the last timing belt change (or did I miss it)? I always have the timing belt and waterpump changed at the same time. When I had to replace my Xm 6 years ago I also seriously looked at a C6. Concerns about long term parts-availibility and complexity (and being no mechanic myself) made me choose a C5 (X7) Tourer instead. No regrets sofar.
You working on that car scratches an itch for those of us who want a c6 but know we would be out of our depth owning one. There is precious little c6 content on youtube. Set up a patreon account or something to fund the content.
The C6 is a car I've always wanted. But I also like to do my own maintenance, and it's way beyond my skill levels. Seeing a professional mechanic struggling to look after one makes me realise that I'm never going to get one.
Kitch, it's a sad day, but I know how you feel . . . sometimes you just have to say goodbye, no matter how sexy she looks from behind or the ride she gives you . . . I am referring to the Automotive of course !! Hope the trip to France let you fall for her again . . . Hope everything else works out in your favour as well . . . Thanks for keeping us always entertained . . . Go well and here's to brighter days !!
I know hindsight is 20/20 but the advice should be to make sure it's all good before you put the Evans in. The car will run hotter with Evans so the pressure is greater on the components.
I'm sorry it has broken you and there's only so many times you can walk away to come back. Time to move it on, especially when you look at your other projects.
Really hoping that just enough things on the C6 will break so you can keep making enough content with it for the ad revenue to pay to keep it running 😝
@@UPnDOWN My guess would be, not enough, unfortunately. If you really have to part with the C6, I hope it finds a home where it is loved as much as it is now. In any case, I’m wishing you the best with everything else that’s going on. 🙏🏼
Hope you had a great and trouble free trip. Such a beautiful car but I can see your point of view, it's simply not worth the stress and heartache sometimes.
Shame but understandable Will you be taking a big tool box medium or small. Take it around the peripherique (situation fluid) Sorry Couldnt resist it!!!
£60 a month in tax is really expensive. That’s a strange system of road tax you have in the UK. In Victoria Australia we pay £360 per year in registration fees for each car. It’s a flat rate that is the same for each car under 4.5t as ours goes by weight. The more it weighs then it goes into the next category. You should just pay 1 price once per year. This £60 per month is BS to me as an Australian. I prefer to pay it all in 1 lump sum for 12 month’s registration. Then it’s out of the way.
@@Pumaspeedracing I don’t like the idea of tax being based on emissions. All cars do damage to the Road surface which needs fixing. So all cars should pay the same road tax. The heavier the car the more damage it does to the road so they should be taxed more. Hybrids are the worst because they are very heavy.
IMHO ditch the waterless coolant and save yourself money and hassle. Seriously. I've had cars that have ran fine on conventional coolant, then customer wanted waterless coolant and the car gave alot of coolant circuit issues.
Memories last a lifetime. There are so many cars I'm very glad that I owned, even if I no longer own them.

Well done on getting through.
With the benefit of hindsight, future lesson here is to use only water initially, then maybe after around 500 miles, then change to waterless coolant.
I think the waterpump had a visit from Ming the Merciless.
Maybe the water removing stuff pre waterless coolant dissolved important crud that was acting as a sealer?
It wouldn't do that, no. It was just play in the shaft which ate the seal.
You don't have excess pressure in the cooling system, do you?
No, practically none now it's waterless!
I feel your pain.
Hope she goes to a good home, preferably another citroen specialist.
Maybe Ian Seabrook would be interested in the C6? Even if he sells it a few months later, he would always make sure it goes to a good home.
The C6 is a car I've always wanted. But I also like to do my own maintenance, and it's way beyond my skill levels. Seeing a professional mechanic struggling to look after one makes me realise that I'm never going to get one.
Don't be put off, it's just a car. I don't regret a thing.
Wow… I was thinking about ‘waterless coolant’… but, man, it sounds a bit too expensive
From all the videos we’ve seen outside the UPnDOWN garage, I’ve never seen or heard a train go past..
There's a reason for that.
@@UPnDOWN your skillful editing no doubt. Maybe?
I know hindsight is 20/20 but the advice should be to make sure it's all good before you put the Evans in. The car will run hotter with Evans so the pressure is greater on the components.
How would I have know the water pump was about to die if it wasn't actually leaking?
Ah. A hard decision, perhaps. But I hope the financial things work out well for you.
Don't be sad, sell it to Ian, and you'll keep seeing it...🤣🤣🤣
It’s a beautiful car but yes you are right, you’ve done wonders with it and rescued it but using is not good for it.
Constant new leaks can be a sign of the cooling system pressurising from blown HG. My Espace did this, till it blew up completely.
Fortunately now it has waterless in it, any signs of pressurising are obvious, as normally it no longer does.
@@UPnDOWN yeah, I did wonder about that, ta.
I'm sorry it has broken you and there's only so many times you can walk away to come back. Time to move it on, especially when you look at your other projects.
Car is looking good 🚘🚙🚗⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍👍👍
The best automotive day in a man’s life is buying his C6…….. the second best is when he sells the bloody thing……😂
Oké the next a 2 cv that cheapest en economic
Really hoping that just enough things on the C6 will break so you can keep making enough content with it for the ad revenue to pay to keep it running 😝
Haha! How much do you think the C6 has earned in the past few weeks...?
@@UPnDOWN My guess would be, not enough, unfortunately. If you really have to part with the C6, I hope it finds a home where it is loved as much as it is now. In any case, I’m wishing you the best with everything else that’s going on. 🙏🏼
Hope you had a great and trouble free trip. Such a beautiful car but I can see your point of view, it's simply not worth the stress and heartache sometimes.
If you havent changed the coolant inlet pipe (part 1336Y2) that will be the next thing to blow
Wow I got a "EuroKakParts" advert ermmmmm
what if you had instead of this 2.7, 2.2 hdi or 3.0 pb?
I'd prefer a 3.0 petrol, for sure. Wouldn't want the 2.2.
Silicone spray/greaseis better for o rings. Vaselineis more of an adhesive than a lubricant really.
Shame but understandable Will you be taking a big tool box medium or small. Take it around the peripherique (situation fluid)
Sorry Couldnt resist it!!!
Citroen Ami to replace it😅? The electric one
I don't mind them!
@@UPnDOWN I was really disappointed when the prices of them shot up, I was going to get one ignore was £6k new, but sadly not
Emotional damage 😭
Kudos for persevering with it, but yeah, sell it. Cars have a way of telling you it's over.
Sad times :(
£60 a month in tax is really expensive.
You don't have to pay it monthly it helps spread the costs, and yes it's a total rip off like everything in the UK these days!!
I run a citroen 2010 c4 1.6hdi and that's only £30 a year to tax its based on on emissions
Very sad 😢
IMHO ditch the waterless coolant and save yourself money and hassle. Seriously. I've had cars that have ran fine on conventional coolant, then customer wanted waterless coolant and the car gave alot of coolant circuit issues.
I know of a bloke that might swap an AU Fairmont for it...
