I like how in the recent Nintendo Power they talked about how Dedede came waaaay before Kirby, supposedly months in advance, and whenever Dedede tried looking for the Waddle Dees and Kirby, he couldn't find them, which led into him being depressed as hell and then getting to the point of him being possessed by Forgo. What I really like with this version of Dedede theme is how it fits perfectly the theme of the game. What I mean is that Dedede joined the Beast Pack for reasons and the roar in the song represent very well the "animal" part that dedede became in this game.
Reasons not his own. From what I gathered, He held out against them for awhile, then he became brainwashed. When you fight him in the Forbidden lands before lab discovera, they were trying to strengthen the brainwashing with a beast mask, hence what seemed to be a brief struggle before turning and attacking us. I have to admit though, they really did good with the design for him here, very gruff.

As someone who always mained Kirby but transitioned to maining Dedede in Ultimate, this was so, so satisfying to listen to, it felt like Dedede grew immensely as a character and as a boss because hot damn is the Phantom Forgo Dedede a brutal fight! I really wish it had been a bit more challenging, but it is REALLY fun to battle.

And while the 2nd phase hits harder, it isn't even that difficult, especially since you can inhale the orbs and weakening its hardest attack by alot.
