  • In this episode, we are going to Rangiputa on the Karikari Peninsula to check out another great fishing spot in this area. This fishing spot is on the Harbour side of the Peninsula. There are deep channel running along the banks and are in easy casting distance for shore-based anglers.
    The Karikarik Peninsula is a camping and fishing paradise in the Far North of New Zealand. There are countless good fishing spots all around. There is also an unofficial marine reserve at the end to protect this area from overfishing.

    That Rahui at Matai Bay has been in place for 3 or 4 years now to build up fish numbers again. The Rangiputa spot that you moved to fishes well at night or early morning. Nice video cheers

      Do you know why they started to do Rahui at Maitai Bay back then?

    • @Fishingreminder
      @Fishingreminder  ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, we did this bit just for fun. We knew there was a Rahui there. I think it's good. We should have more marine reserves and rahuis.

      @@walkintomydream7208 The local maori felt that the area was getting too hammered and they weren't seeing the same fish, cray, paua and kina numbers that they'd had in the past.

      @@cameronwin6696 thanks for the info. That’s nice to protect the eco system. Hope to see the improvement😉 . Wondering if we can do it more populated areas.

    I grew up in Mangonui and Rangiputa was always a special place.
    It's like being in the island's the water is so clear.
    Thanks for the drone footage I've fished there for years along that beach but now I know exactly how it looks.
    Love your content keep up the good work.

    Surprised the dairy never mentioned or had some sought of signage informing where a Rahui was in place. Upside the fish can swim wherever there's water.

    • @Fishingreminder
      @Fishingreminder  ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, probably a good idea if they would put up some signage at the dairy. We actually knew there was a Rahui. Just went there for fun anyway. It's a beautiful spot for swimming. Next time I'll go for a snorkel.

    Love your video's guys. I've just got back into surfcasting properly again. Spent many years as a kid fishing around Auckland with my late father. Trying different spots on Eastern beaches, Nth Head down to Maraetai with little luck but will definitely try the mussel bait 😉

      Thanks mate! Yeah surfcasting in Auckland is a little more difficult. Your best chances are the west coast beaches or perhaps in the Manukau harbour.

      We have a batch and great spot in oakura,whangaruru been rock fishing there since a kid. But got spearfishing gear last year can't wait to head up when this weather clears up. Love your videos keep them coming we should link up for a shore dive sometime.

    BEWARE: I pulled up to Matai bay and was reading the rahui sign (that you pictured)and a member of Iwi offered to punch my head in . He asked what I was doing , I said reading the sign then he rammed my car with his motorcycle. I asked what was the problem -he continued to threaten me.
