I was fortunate enough to be a Penguins season ticket holder for the team's first 50 seasons. I got to watch the team struggles against all of the legendary players of the late 1960s, 70s and 80s and beyond. I was blessed to be able to attend most of the home games in Mario's career and many of Sid's early years.
Mario was truly a game changer. He dominated almost every opposing player and it seemed like he could personally change a game at will. The Penguins built a powerhouse team around him and he led us to the Stanley Cups. When the team was bankrupt, threatening to move to Kansas City, Mario literally saved the franchise by negotiating the team purchase by his group.
More than 6-7 surveys were sent to the season ticket holders in planning the construction of PPG Paints Arena. Many of the suggestions received were incorporated into the building, making it one of the best venues in the NHL.
