Brendan Fraser didn't have to go that hard in these movies, but he it did for us.

The Mummy is fantastic for so many different types of viewing. You can do drinking games, quote along with it, point out your favorite bits with your friends as they point out theirs, or you can just simply put it on and watch it. I think that's part of the reason why its had so much staying power. It holds up well for additional viewings, even if you just have it on in the background.

This movie has been one of my favorite guilty pleasure movies for years now and I honestly don’t know why lol. I guess because as you said, it just kind of has a blend of everything. That’s probably what makes it so rewatchable.

I always loved the B movie vibe this gave off. And the fact that the second movie was soo good that they gave it its own spin off just makes this series that much better.

The Mummy is just kind of perfect in what it needs to be. And isn't Evy such a great heroine? A strong female character who's strong in ways besides brute force and sass, and gets to mess up and save the day alternately, as well as kick up her heels and be goofy. And when they were making it, everyone thought it was going to flop - Rachel Weisz thought she'd never work again, Arnold Vosloo had his friends saying "why did you do a mummy movie?", and they didn't realise it was something big until there was so much enthusiasm drummed up by the Superbowl trailer.

The Mummy evokes the feeling I had when watching Raiders of the Lost Ark so, in a sense, you are right in saying that this movie reminds us of why we love movies. It brings back that child-like wonder and, most of all, it is escapism at its best. Yes, it’s a product of its time but there’s no denying that when everyone involved commits fully to the STORY instead what the story REPRESENTS the result always has more soul and passion, which seep through to our viewing experience. Enjoyed this trip down memory lane. Thanks for the video.
P.s. I agree, Benny needed more screen time. He was such an interesting character that straddles the grey area with street-smarts to boot.

I'm going have to agree. We own it (and 700 other DVD/Blueray titles) an we watch it again about once a year. It's one of those "expect nothing and you'll be pleasantly surprised" kind of movies. It's easy entertainment for most age's. Not a top 100 film, but it doesn't suck, even after 20 or so viewings. Siskel and Ebert👍

Always appreciate a little love for the quasi masterpiece that is The Mummy. By the way, on a totally unrelated note, just watched The Sandman series on Netflix (Both things are about characters that have unimaginable powers often relating to sand, boom connection made) and I'd love to see a video talking about the show if you are so inclined. I'm a huge fan of the graphic novels and they really crushed it with the series, it'd be great to hear your thoughts!

Not gonna lie, whenever I try to watch this movie today I’m always kinda put off by the uncomfortable racial elements/othering. It feels kinda mean spirited, like the movie has this sort of subtle contempt for anyone outside of our main characters, and especially the non-white ones.
