- Have a look behind the scenes of Schmincke watercolour production. In the Jubilee Year 2017, Schmincke enlarged and optimized the HORADAM® watercolours to a 140 assortment. With this enlargement Schmincke successfully filled the harmonic colour spectrum of the Horadam® premium assortment. 100 well-tried and traditional colours as well as Oxgall already fit to the highest quality standards, so that there was no need for a change. After some years of research by the Schmincke lab, 35 new colours (among these 32 one-pigment-tones) have been added to the premium assortment. The increased use of highly lightfast pigments, such as Quinacridone or Perylene, offered completely new possibilities for the artist. 4 colours have been optimized using the newest and best raw materials. What’s remaining? The unique quality components of Horadam® watercolours: The selected Gum Arabic, the complex pouring of the colours for 4 times in liquid state and the sustainable production process of the precious watercolours in pans and tubes - always following the founders’ motto “Meliora cogito - I strive for the best”. Also in the future, the worldwide approved Horadam® watercolours will stand for unsurpassed quality “Made in Germany”.

One of the BEST watercolor brands in the world!!! These and Sennelier ,for me, are the Best!! Worth every penny........great video! So fun to see how they are produced!!

I've been researching some top brands, but after watching numerous TH-cam videos I've decided on Schmincke. It's expensive, so I'll start with a split primary palette and see how it goes. Luckily I see we have them in our art stores here in Cape Town, South Africa. 🙂

I was wondering if Schmincke sells their full range of colors in pans (half pan in particular)? The tubes are extremely expensive here in the US. Thanks so much!

Thanks so much! I just wanted to know if ALL of your colors that you make and sell in tubes are also available in pans, or which colors are available as individual pans. I have the latest "dot chart" so I know which colors I'd like to buy next, but do not know which colors are available in pans (all colors? just some colors?) I went to their website and the Schmenke website and couldn't find that information. I did not realize you had a parent firm, thanks for letting me know!

why pour 4 times? to fully fill the pan?
Yes, the pan is completely filled after the fourth filling.
Because as the water evaporates, the paint "shrinks", so the space made by this process is filled again. And again. And again.
I love Schminke since i went to artschool....like 30 years ago

Schmincke is the Drake ovo of the art world they both got that owl logo... Schmincke is very expensive but i love there pigment quality its worldclass... Im a artist and definately see myself investing in large amounts for there products

In europe they're very affordable actually, a LOT cheaper than the American brands.
Top quality, expensive out of Europe.
Just buy one pan at a time?
