Hey I'm not sure if you've ever done this before but regarding the ripped pads on that cap you're replacing at about 32 minutes, use some copper tape in place of the broken pads. Just cut to size and since it's sticky on the bottom, it shouldn't move much then just bridge the copper tape with a part you scratch off or run a bit of wire to it and it'll give you much more room to work with when soldering in the new cap. I did it to my Sega CD when I modded it with an FRAM chip (I ripped one pad and replaced it with some copper tape) and it worked like a charm!
@@iKevinF if you have scrap PCBs (oh god, do I have scrap PCBs) if you find a pad of the same size, you can lift it off that board and transfer it. With proper epoxy that's an extremely effective repair.

These things are nototious for spewing cap juice all over the boards. Considering they are full TG16 systems you could take with you, they were desirable back then, and still are. You're pretty much looking at complete recaps and cleanings, as you feared.
@@Tronicsfix You can pretty much expect that on any others you come across, too. Doesn't make for the most gripping of repair, but that's life. The mod scene for those is pretty great, too. IPS screen replacements can really revitalize them. With the Turbo and PC Engine gaining some popularity over the past few years, you picked a good time to fix a bunch of them. :)
@@TheAkashicTraveller Yes, there is a thread at PCEngineFans where someone created replacement PCBs. I am not sure if you can get them, or if he just put the plans out there. If so, that's the best option if an original PCB is too far gone.
