I did own two of those at time, and I'm buying another one, if I can find one today and never will sell it again, ever!!! The far best 12 string out there, unequal tone, touch and volume....
There is the Guild F-512 and then there are other 12-strings. I have never heard the equal of a good Guild 12-string jumbo. I was lucky to own three of them at various times in my life and each of them was a monster both tone and volume-wise. I was unlucky to never have had a rosewood F512 though. My Guilds were all mahogany. I still feel a bit of remorse when I see and hear a F-512 rosewood in full voice and this one above is no exception. Long live the Sixties.
I just picked up a Corona made JF30-12 with Maple Body. Wow! I can't imagine it getting much better. Still figuring out all the new things I can play with it.
Being an "old" folkie, way back in the 60's, even though Martin made a great D12-28, most folks who played 12 stringers opted for Guilds. They were top of the line back then and it is nice to see that they still are.
I had a D-12-20 and a D-12-28. The bad thing is Martin's action especially on their 12 strings are brutally horrid. The Guild's were pretty good so a step ahead.
@@leerothman7570 I was born with a high frequency hearing loss, so back in the 60's in college, I had someone's el cheapo 12 stringer. Broke a lot of strings back then. LOL. Today I only one four nice Martin 6 stringers and I have not broken a string since electronic tuners came out. I agree on the high action back then on Martin 12 stringers.
David Guilmour, Tom Petty, etc. used the Guild 12-string guitar for some of their most iconic songs. They did not go wrong. It is one of the best in the world.
In addition to its beefy tone, the Guild F512 also has great articulation across the strings as you play individual notes. You don't quite hear that with this demo, but it really sings across the board.
I played a few higher priced jumbo 12-strings on the wall at Guitar Center, then was kind of surprised to see a dreadnought 12 string from Taylor. I thought it was brighter and cleaner than any i had ever heard before.
If you're going to buy a 12 string, Guild is the way to go. I had an upper-end 12 string made by another manufacturer, I was never happy with it and eventually sold it. Now I have a Guild and everything about it is better. It has better tone, a more comfortable neck profile, and a low action.
I thought the flagship Guild 12 was the one with flame maple B&Sides? Never the less, this is a deep rich powerhouse, I love it, love it, love it! I have a D12-28 keeper which is equally stupendous and very playable. Really appreciate it if you did a side by side comparison between this Guild rosewood, the maple, and the Martin. Thanks guys, I don't believe this beauty will be hanging for long.
The Guild F-512 seems great. I recently bought a Martin J-16E 12 string and I love it. I considered the F-512 and just couldn’t bear to pay that much for it. I also considered Guild 1512 and 2512 and think I would've been pretty happy with those at a much lower cost. The Martin was expensive enough but not F-512 expensive. I feel great about it. I expected the Martin to be good and it’s even better than I expected. Maybe its just a stage I’m going through but I’ve been really inspired to play the 12 string lately. It feels like a guitar that will stay in regular lineup. I had a 12 string years ago that was hard to play and I almost never played it. If you find a Guild, Martin, Eastman, Taylor or whatever brand that feels good in your hands then I think 12er's are fantastic. They make a glorious sound! 🎸👍
The reason I started playing guitar was far, far back in my early teens (1960's) I heard "The Amazing 12-String Guitar of Glen Campbell". I was hooked. Saved up for a Gibson 12 string. (not the fancy one, maybe B-25 12?). Especially with young hands it really taught me to get the fundamentals right.Wish I still had that guitar. Also, wish I still had young hands, but.... Love Guilds generally, this one has a beautiful boom. Love the rosewood.
I bought a F2512E last year. All maple around 500 bucks and it sounds freakin great..electronics work great .I love it.Only thing ive found is some of the tuners are harder to turn.I recommend it highly. I think there running sround 599 now.
I bought a 1979 Guild F212XL NT (Mahogany) way back in 1982. Stunning tone and a total cannon. Best sounding 12 I've ever played. I'll never sell it. Guild made the best 12's.
I hope to see your demo of another king of 12 strings; martin D12-28. I'm sorry for my strange English from Japan, but I love to watch your great videos!
I love the Guild 12s, but would love hear you guys take on a Martin HD12-28 for comparison. I own one and totally love it - I've been told it's volume is simply "insurmountable" haha. It's a beast!
Well done guys, when you review Guild F-55 guitar in Rosewood back and sides, I saw that you did the review of Guild F-55 with maple back and sides, but I'm also interested in seeing a review of Guild F-55 with Rosewood back and sides. You are two nice guys. Greetings from Italy.
I've got two of them. 😀 The first, a Westerly purchased in 1975, is the first guitar I ever bought for myself. The second, a 2010 New Hartford model, I bought used last year with the intention of setting up one of them as a 6 string (i.e. essentially an F50R [a.k.a. F55 Natural] with a wider neck which is how I played my Westerly for years when I didn't own a 6-string acoustic). They have the same great playability but are tonally different. The Westerly has a warmer midrange tone. The New Hartford has a more balanced tone with more bass punch and individual note clarity. For that classic Guild F512 shimmering wall of sound, I'd choose the Westerly but the New Hartford is something special, too. I love it both as a 6 string and as a 12 with more clarity than the Westerly. I love the classic scooped Martin sound but these flagship Guilds are in a class of their own. No one has done midrange warmth better than Guild.
Guild made to be played. The best twelve strings because of there build quality and that big sound..and the low end is what counts...others don't compare...the thin jingle jangle sound is what people think about twelve should sound like but listen to a Guild.Your a player of twelve string or not.The Guild is the best..period!!!!
The ICONIC Guild F-512. Thank you Music Villa for your thoughts. I've had mine for better than 10 years and truely enjoy the immersive and fulfilling sound. As David Gilmore says regarding 12-Strings ..."...ah just listen to that...." as he strums a Guild F-512 on a youtube video when asked the question of Why a 12-String. Enjoy!
I have the F-55 (ie the six strong version) with maple back and sides and I absolutely love it to pieces. As they said, the sound is HUGE. I cannot afford an F-512 so I will make do with the F-2512 instead, which is not made in USA, and that makes it considerably cheaper which TBH is all I can afford for a "don't use all the time" guitar such as a 12 string.
I would like to see you do a review on Budget 12 strings Guitars, of course Guild has the F1215 and F2512 that are more on the budget but I would like to see you compare them to other budget 12s. I currently both the F1215 and F2512 and a rare Alvarez 12 jumbo string Rosewood, I might be getting a used Charvel 12 string that is very rare. I wish I could afford the F-512 that is a dream guitar for many of us who play 12 string guitars.
Newer models have a single truss rod. Basically, they say truss rod technology improved and the double was no longer necessary. My 2010 single rod is in perfect shape.
The absolute best 12-strings you will ever hear are the Bozo Bell Western 12's like the one that Leo Kottke played. Bozo matched the lower bout of a J-200 with the upper bout of a D-28, it's just an enormous guitar and they're ladder braced like a classical guitar.
Nice guitar but it's not cheap, around 3500, if you want a great one that sounds just as good the Eastman AC330 is a great alternative for around a 1000 bucks!
I had a D-28,12 and a D-18,12 Martinn guitars and they were awesome ! But the Guild 512 plays easier and has a big sound. I currently own a Guild 2512,
@@russellmarkley7536 I tried the 2512 as well and for the price it is an impressive little thing. The sound is very warm and the notes ring out very well.
