Whats the use for that transistor and a heavy bridge rectifier? You could simply halve the voltage by using a single diode. Or if you already had 120v diodes, you could create a bridge rectifier with 4 of those to get a clean 120 volts. How does this additional setup help?

If you have an oscilloscope look at the output waveform. This is not 50% DC voltage. In a comparable way, you could only build a half-wave rectifier with a single rectifier diode. MJE13009 needs to dissipate 100W as heat, it will blow up sooner or later. A better and simple way to reduce 220V to 110V is by using a Triac Phase controller/dimmer/ Fan regulator. Even simpler method is to connect a 6A4 diode in series with the 100 watts LED. light
