But my suggestion for smooth operation you need to give LC circuit since now you will get only PWM singal but for proper DC and smooth operation you need to have LC Circuit
Specify the diode , the bridge rectifier number and if you provide the Circuit it will be helpful to try. I have a drill gifted by a relative which can operate in 110v ac ; but I couldn't use it and I am on the lookout for the converter which can with stand atleast 500watts.
So you convert 230V AC into 325V pulsed DC (calculation without diode losses). Then you control the transistor via the Zener for every second half-wave. If you have an oscilloscope look at the output waveform. This is not 50% DC voltage. In a comparable way, you could only build a half-wave rectifier with a single rectifier diode. That has almost the same effect.
220V AC (Bridge Rectifier) --> positive half AC[ie. half sinewave DC] (NPN+120V zener diode) --> -120.7V DC output relatve to Bridge Rectifier positive [120+0.7V PN junction voltage] That is the ouput voltage= input voltage - 120.7V. (Note: The input is DC half sinewave.) When the input voltage is less than 120.7V, the NPN is "OFF". When the input voltage is larger than 120.7V, the NPN will turn "ON" and "OFF" frequently to keep the output voltage relatve to the Bridge Rectifier positive at DC -120.7V.

Above the breakdown voltage of the Zener, the NPN is always switched on until the voltage falls below the breakdown voltage again. What is left looks like a one-way rectification. The voltage displayed is the RMS value of the pulsed DC voltage.
MJE13009 needs to dissipate 100W as heat, it will blow up sooner or later. A better and simple way to reduce 220V to 110V is by using a Triac Phase controller/dimmer/ Fan regulator. Even simpler method is to connect a 6A4 diode in series with the 100 watts LED. light
