      @@Neelfy01 I set motion reprojection to automatic in virtual desktop, which I suspect is just using Steam VRs implementation. I must say though, so long as you can hit 45fps, it felt fantastic with minimal artefacts when compared to WMR.

      @@VRFlightSimGuy I've noticed the same thing comparing SteamVR ASW in the Pico 4 to MR in the G2. There are far fewer artifacts in the Pico; the view through the prop is way better and there are almost no artifacts around the cockpit window frames, wind trailing edges or rigging wires of the Tiger Moth. I honestly don't know how they do it.

      I would rather buy a high end PC and a budget VR headset. A RTX4090 is going to last for a couple years playing VR on high settings, a headset wont. The headset technology is moving fast, also VR headsets can be quite fragile. I would rather pay £380 for a pico4 and sell it for like £180 next year and then buy the next gen budget headset. If I get 18 months of use out of it for £200 then that is excellent value. Using it for 10 hours per week that's 780 hours entertainment for £200

    Just the fact that the PICO 4 has working motion reprojection already makes it a more practical VR headset than the aero

    I've been using a Pico 4 for a while now, and I'm still genuinely stunned at the visual quality. Certainly could never go back to anything with fresnel lenses, the sweet spot is so enormous that I never even think about it. Does take a good bit of fiddling around to find the right settings though. The inside out tracking is some of the best I've used as well, seems to hold tracking even in light conditions that others have just given up entirely. Did have to replace the facial interface with an ALVR one and add some padding to the top strap though to make it super comfy, out of the box it just didn't fit me quite right.

    I would love to have a Varjo Aero just because of the direct DisplayPort connection, but the high cost ($2k+VAT) makes that impossible. I own a Pico4 viewer that I bought exclusively to fly with MSFS2020 (+ RTX 4090), frankly I am satisfied with the quality/price ratio. Pico4 would be in the "Olympus of the VR Gods" if it had added a DisplayPort connection, even at a slight extra cost.

      I've heard various things about wireless vs wired and it strikes me that if you have a decent (and physically close!) wifi AP, and use the third-party Virtual Desktop software rather than the native software, that things are good without a cable. How much worse is it, and in what way? Is it like MPEG2 compression on DVDs where dark cloudy scenes go all blocky, or is it like TH-cam compression where lots of trees and leaves turn into a blurry mess? or both? Do you have to look for it or is it obvious? And for objective purposes how much does it change based on your Wifi connection quality?

    Have you tried a USB-C cable with the Pico 4? My Quest Pro looks great for films with Virtual Desktop but even on God mode I don't find it good enough for games, there's too much noise in the image, I can see the compression. But with the link cable and a 500 mb/s encode bitrate it cleans up so well I don't notice any compression at all. You also don't have to worry about battery life either with a cable.
    It's great to see there are still affordable headsets out there capable of giving excellent quality experiences, I suspect the Quest 3 will be massively popular at the end of the year.

    Being from Chicago, and having lived downtown, the accuracy of the city in MSFS is stunning. In fact, the only inaccuracy I have been able to find are the cargo ships that come close to the shore downtown. This doesn't happen. There is no reason for a ship to be that close to shore, as all the ports are miles south of downtown, SE in Indiana, or further north, in Wisconsin.

      💯

    • @kevinbrook7033
      @kevinbrook7033 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      They didn't drop the ball. They are heavily subsidising the cost of the headset with money they only get back if people spend money on their mobile store. They don't want people using it for PCVR.
      Most people don't realise just how unprofitable PCVR is. Even with my £1500 Quest Pro, Meta act as if PCVR doesn't exist. No display port and my 13900k, 4090 system gets warnings on not meeting the minimum spec for VR as they haven't even updated their auto spec detection tool to account for the release of 4000 series cards yet.
      HTC haven't put a display port on their headset either. None of the major companies are as it actually subtracts from their income. Think Beyonce doing a year long pub tour. Even if every show was sold out she'd lose millions compared to the arenas she could be performing in.
      Major companies want to earn hundreds of millions and ultimately billions, PCVR isn't that market so they won't target it if it conflicts with their mobile platform goals.

      @@GmoLargey not used one but wasnt that an old style Fresnel headset with no eye tracking and passthrough? If so that would cost them far less to produce. It's rumoured that Pico lose $150 on every Pico 4 sold. They want to sell them to mobile users who will use their store only.
      I really want a DisplayPort btw. I understand it on the Pico, it's sub £500 and most consumers won't need it. My Quest Pro was £1500 and I expect nearly everyone who purchased one has a high end PC as well. We should have got DisplayPort but they still didn't care.
      I don't think we'll ever get one on any headset. We'll need to rely on USB 4 and future WiFi enhancements to get us to the level of DisplayPort ultimately.

A lot of us will buy the pico 4 because it has great new tech applicable to this year and next year if they release a pico 5 with DP we will buy that on the day it's released because we know it builds on the great pico 4. It's just a shame we have to wait for true PCVR to become 'affordable' . On the other hand we might never get a pico 5 DP and have to fork out 2-3k for the next gen aero chasing Clarity and FPS. I have a 4080 and pico 4. Runs well, but I limit sim racing titles to 72 fps rather than 90. I find this means I can run in god mode, everything ultra in game and have a rock solid framerate. However I mostly play simracing titles so not a direct comparison.

    Until you get the Crystal and you'll be asked that or Aero! Lol. If it's as good as reported it will be better visually than Aero. Pico4 will be probably then be obsolete for simmers with $$$ to spend. More than Pico but less than Aero, but more features than both

    The fact that this is apparently close to Varjo Aero steers me away from that (latter). I'd like to try it, but reverb and pico have not been near enough for me. Guess the comfort level depends on size and shape of your head :p

      @VRFlightSimGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In terms of visuals, it's really not close to the Aero. I hoped I made that clear (pardon the pun) in the video. However, it does stand up well considering its price.

      @@VRFlightSimGuy but it seems even then, its not far off. Based on both this, your other videos as well as other people. It'd really have to be much better for me to justify that price.
      Based on specs (i know it has foveated rendering, still says 35ppd sharpest officially, some say its actually 45-48), I really doubt its even 2x sharper than say a quest2 or pico4. That's worse than 1080p on a 32" monitor..

      @@VRFlightSimGuy I tried the reverb G2 and thought it was WAYY over hyped (though it is my first VR headset, so maybe I'm ignorant of how far we've come). Yes, the sweet spot is pretty good, but the FOV is tiny, the sweet spot is tiny, and anything outside of that is a smeary mess.
      Is the pico 4 significantly better?

    Funny how you never mention the horrendous "red shift" in the Aero. As an owner of said headset I caution anyone considering purchasing one to first do their research. Perhaps have a look on the Varjo discord and see what others are saying about it before blindly following this "influencer" opinion.

      Yes it make the glass cockpit MFD really weird, like the screen is a 3D image instead of being flat. And Aero acknowledge the problem and say they are trying to fix it. Can't believe this isn't commented on by any TH-camr reviewer What gives!?!

      @@jchristi99 at least one other TH-camr has highlighted this issue. Check out the nerdaxic review here: th-cam.com/video/pe8bjcJvd68/w-d-xo.html He paid for the headset out of his own pocket so maybe that has something to do with him being a little more candid in his review?

    You still didn't say how much performance overhead the Pico 4 uses (for compression) in comparison to the Aero or Reverb G2. I keep watching these videos in the hope that you'll give some technical details, but keep getting disappointed. :(

    I bought Pico 4 and i'm very disapointed. I'm using Quest 2 from one month for PCVR with USB3 cable. I spent a lot of time to find out the best configuration (FPS and Quality). And now a lot of YT and internet hype for Pico 4 with Virtual Desktop (aka game changer and so on..) It's a bullshit for me. I've bought Pico 4 few days ago for better FOV, resolution and overall "image quality". Tested everything (WiFi6, USB-C etehernet card, USB3 cable, Streaming Assistant and Virtual Desktop (Godlike on my RTX 4090). Sorry, there is no way to have even close what i have on Quest 2 with OpenXR Toolkit and Open Composite with USB3 cable (I mean FPS and overall image quality not FOV of course). Now I will return my Pico 4, stay with Quest 2 and in the time where I wait for Quest 3 I will try HP Reverb G2 V2 because have also better spec then Q2 but can work same straight way like Q2 (OXRT, OC) without this sh**ty heavy SteamVR which Pico 4 use. Try your configuratiion with Virtual Desktop instead Streaming Assistant and You will see much better quality and performance, yes it's true. But again, for me even VD it's not to close what i've got from OXRT and OC. I wanted to have the same quality and performance on Pico 4, and even better due to the spec, but it's not possible until Pico 4 will not fully natively supports/uses Open XR.

    As much as I wanted to like this video I can't - you spend the time re-iterating THAT the Pico 4 stands up well against the Varjo Aero, but say nothing about WHY. Sure you throw out the phrase "visual fidelity" early on and make some implicit reference to the lack of a DP connection, but then you don't explain it or give any kind of metric. Is it 90% as good? Is it 25% as good? Good in what way? Clarity? Distortion? Weight? Sound? Does it feel hot on your head after a while? Please explain what you mean, as it was a frustrating watch this time :-/ (context: I've never owned any VR headset so this is all research for me as I look to upgrade my GPU too.) Also why do you say you need a 4090? What about the AMD 7900 XT or XTX ? etc etc
