Almost a decade later and you’re still helping people. I had this same problem today and the fuse method worked like a charm. Doing the Lords work brother. I appreciate ya
I CANNOT EXPRESS TO YOU HOW GRATEFUL I AM THAT YOU POSTED THIS VIDEO!!! I had the transmission replaced in my Chevy Trail Blazer and when I went to pick it up, they told me that the service 4wd light was on because the transfer case was not communicating with the transmission. And they also told me that you CAN DRIVE THE VEHICLE LIKE THIS.... So we drug it home and started searching youtube for a solution that we could do ourselves. And we found you...GOD BLESS YOU MAN!!!Keep those videos coming....I will be forever grateful that I found this video.....
5 years after this video got posted and this information is still GOLD. The fuse method worked instantly. This should be the first thing anyone tries. I did notice it still doesn't want to shift around when use the switch so I'm guessing the module is bad because the motor seems to be working fine. I finally got rid of that whining noise. I think mine was stuck in between shifting from 4w high and 2w high hence the whining noise. I though I was gonna shred my transfer case but this fixed it Thank you so much!
Well, I was able to take the encoder motor out and manually put it in 2wd without having to take the driveshaft out. It did work. Thanks for you time, your information and help.
Thanks for the post. I've been looking all over the web for answers about my 4WD problems I've had with my '03 HUMMER H2. This by far answered all the questions. Really, thanks!
Thanks a lot man you was the last one I watched last night and I went out this morning and I got 2 Wheel Dr. and got to work on time.. I have always been good with a wrench but when it comes to the electronic i am lost in some ways it seems easy and then others it's not thanks for the info,, Rick Tanner Lake Ozark Missouri,,,, if you ever have any boat dock or boatlift questions look me up
Great help. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a car repair video be so to-the-point with no fat around the edges. Probably the easiest TH-cam repair i’ve ever done. Shoutout to this guy

Thanks Jamie!! I followed your's and a couple other videos (I compiled them). My truck is a 2005 GMC Silverado1500. Here is the compiled procedure I used. After I took the ground to the battery off for 30 Minutes and re-installed the ground, I took out two fuses (Treck - 30amp and 4ws - 15A) briefly, and put them back in. Then I went into the cab and turned the truck on (but not start). I put the truck in (N) ---not park---. I then held the 2w and 4wd low switches simultanously until the red N light on the 4wd panel lit. Then I pressed 2wd. I heard a loud clunk and no more stuck in 2wd. This is the lead up event: I was going up a hill with some loose rocks and I selected auto 4wd and heard a load clunk. At the top of the small grade. I stopped and put it in 2wd and it made a "gear grinding sound" from the left front tire. I tried switching to 4wd and all hell broke loose. So I figured the front left wheel got stuck partly in drive, because in 2wd a gear grinding sound came from left front only. Thanks Jamie. Your's was the missing key in the other videos. I owe you dinner :)
Thank you! Worked for my 2015 Silverado 1500. Unhook battery. Drain for 30 mintues. Re hook and pull the number 6 fuse and put the fuse back in and now my transfer case shifts just fine!
Thanks a lot for the video! My wife’s 2004 Bravada was stuck in Awd and after watching your video I was able to get it in RWD by removing the actuator and turning the transfer case counter clockwise. New subscriber !
Thanks! I found your video too late, as I took it to the dealer stuck in 4 hi. Needed dang truck ASAP. $907 bill for new motor. If I’d known, I’d have done this and delayed repair. Only $200 on Rock Auto.
Thanks for the info! This helped me solve my issue. My 05 Silverado was stuck in 2 HI but then got stuck in AUTO 4WD when I kept trying to engage 4x4. I trouble shot it down to the shift motor/encoder assembly. The new one came in the neutral position but couldn’t get my transfer case to go into neutral position. Watched this video about putting the transmission in neutral first and just like that, I was able to rotate my transfer case into neutral and the new shift motor lined up perfectly!
did you turn the splines by hand or did you use vice grips or something? I want to do this but I do not want to use vice grips on my splines I do not want to damage them
Most helpful video I've ever watched my blazer got stuck in neutral the transfer case that is the vehicle I haven't yet had on the road but had this horrible grinding couldn't figure out where it was coming from rear brakes rear end front drive shaft transfer case was have stuck in between
Jonathan Maynard Glad to hear that you found the video helpful man and that you were able to locate your particular problem. Hope to see you on the channel often and if you have a moment, take a look at our contest video. Its our way of doing a little something to thank you guys for making this channel a success.
Brother you saved me a big headache with 0 dollars spent i flashed the TCM and it woke it back up I'm glad I had subscribed to you before I needed help with this issue. Thanks again !!!!!
Omgz this video just helped me out sooo much because my 03 Chevy blazer was stuck in 4hi and the information about the vehicle in neutral to get it out of the 4wd. Vehicle was making funny noise and I got nervous and found your video and it was good knowledge of what to check and do. It had snowed so needed to use the 4wd in it. Just saved me money. Thank you for posting this.
Jamie You are the man! I have a 2004 Isuzu Ascender which is basically a Trail Blazer. I was stuck in 4wd low for the 1st time ever. Undid the battery cable for 30 min. unplugged that fuse and voila! All working again! Hopefully I will be good to go now, but if this happens again I feel totally equipped to take your additional steps to go further! Really incredible advice saved me a bunch! Greatly appreciated! Massive thumbs up!
This worked like a charm. I have a 2006 Chevy Tahoe z71. I took the first step from his advice of disconnecting the Bat cable and the removing the fuse. Waiting about 30 secs. and plugged in the fuse again and reconnected the bat cable. Cracked the truck and initially it didn't work but place in Neutral, hit 2wd. It engaged roughly with a loud sound and worked like a charm. I still have the "service 4wd" on the DIC indicator. Which means I will probably have to replace the encoder motor sensor or the transfer case motor soon, if the problem persists. Thank you for posting!!!
Thanks a bunch. I've been looking for a while on how to fix my 4wd. I figured it was something that I can do myself but didn't know exactly what to look for. U r the man.
garnet basarath thks yeah the dealers just try to make it so expensive and complicated in reality it's really inexpensive and pretty simple to do, good luck man if I can help you in any way shape or form let me know
Thank you!! My battery went dead and I replaced it. My 99 blazer was stuck in 4 lo, I had not pushed the button.. I purchased this Blazer some time ago, thought that most kinks were worked out of it. I have done a lot of research and kept a record of what I found. Checked and there was your link. disconnected power supply to fuse panel under the hood. Turned on light switch and went and did some thing else. Also pulled two fuses. Later came back and connected fuse panel. Light switch was off. installed two fuses. Got in car and put gear selector in neutral. Noise came from under car and lights indicated that I was in two wheel drive. Test drove and I was. Thank you so much.
great video, am personally aware of the nomenclature, but for those that aren't, it must be a huge help! and I watched it to brush up on it, big help!.thanks!
So here’s my story. Hopefully it help others who were in the same boat as me. I have an 06 Chevy Silverado and my 4X4 selector switch would randomly go in different modes such as 4HI & 4LO on its own following up with a “service 4X4” message. Well one day, It left me stranded. None of my lights for my 4X4 switch was on and I was unable to select 2HI. I lost all my gears including park and when I was switching from Reverse to Park, a loud grinding noise can be heard. I thought I was toast. After all the solutions you mentioned, the very last option worked for me. I took off the T-case encoder off and turn the shaft by hand and what do you know, It’s back up and running again until i get a replacement. Well anyways just wanted to say thanks!
Hey car guy! Just wanted to say thanks for the helpful information that you so happily shared. I have a 2007 chevy trailblazer ls and i unfortunately came across a problem with the 4wd low... Couldn't get it out of gear. I followed the steps in removing the encoder and manually shifted it out of 4low to 2hi. Lifesaver! Need a new encoder (motor wasnt responding to its commands.) But thank you for the help and continue the helpful tips and then some. 🤘
I got stuck in 4 low myself yesterday I drove home maybe 1/2 mile to a mile home luckily I was close enough when I got in trouble I just pulled the # 8 fuse and it shot it back into 2wheel disabling the 4wd system
Not sure if it was your advice or luck but I couldn't find a wrench to disconnect my battery so all I did was remove the spark plug and waited a few minutes and it worked thanks very much!
UPDATE: I Got the truck back in working order! Thanks JAMIE for the video, I couldnt have did it without it, I was able to find which FUSE to pull to do the reset as you explained , it is "TREC" fuse lower right corner 30amp in a 4 fuse group with radio fuse in it, for you guys wondering which fuse in 03-06 GMC Sierra or Silverado... so FYI, I must have defected my encoder when I tried to operate it without installing it, when I was trying to get spline to line up to reinstall it after transfer case swap.I got a used encoder at parts yard for $15.00 (HELL YEAH to UPULL YARDS!) I used my module and not the one I got at the yard, didnt seem same because the GM P/N was different so I didnt want to chance trying it and not matching, even though was same M30/NP8 vehicle. LESSON to learn here is DO NOT attemp to operate an ENCODER without having it mounted, I read on another site that there is a WARNING of this on a BRAND NEW encoder.
Hey! My '03 TB (bought in 2014) felt stuck in 4H for no reason 2 days ago. The clock had also reset. Weird. In trying to figure out WTF I learned that the xfer switch is supposed to have lights -- it never has since I've owned it! Found your video, and this good ol' *girl* fixed it with your help. Thank you!!!
JamieJones TheCarMan Minnesota. Snow. Ugh. But...I drove the first snowy roads of the season today - used A4 and it handled great. Sure wish I'd known about the switch light earlier! I also think finding this issue was a happy accident and the "feeling" I had of being stuck in 4WD was due to low tire pressure. ✌
Thanks for posting. Had to put bosses 2012 Chevy 2500 in 4x4 to get unstuck today. It wouldn’t go back into 2wh. Had to pull over and take actuator off the transfer case and manually shift it. Will diagnose the issue later but feel like it’s the tccm.
Thanks for the video. It help I am stuck in 4wd hi and auto I just pull the 8 fuse and I hear a motor run and it goes into 2wd.. Any thoughts what to replace
This is using a sledge hammer to drive a finish nail. Watch other vids that explain how to do what the manual clearly states. With the engine off ignition on rotate the transfer knob slowly to 4 high listen for the control to cycle then put it back in 2 WD. Worked for me. Good advise try the simple first.
I am recent owner of a TB bought bought off original owner. Got the same issue here with 4lo. The manual for mine says best to be rolling slow in N hit the switch (out of 4lo) I tried your suggestion first (didn't start the engine) and I heard that motor de selected 4lo and went back to 2hi. I read most of the manual after buying it and only retained/memorized "Ensure vehicle is stopped/under 2mph before selecting 4lo" but then forgot it has to be in N to before going back to 2hi (& sends us into this goof up). I think it's a "protection mode" of some kind. Stop owners from damaging the transfer case. Thanks 👍
I have a 2007 silverado classic and paid a person to work on it. It's fixed 4wd working all is fine for now. The person I paid to work on it got another person from another shop to work on it that specializes more in the electrical department but I was told there was some kind of short that was happening that was actually burning and ruining the transfer case motor and more then one motor was tried before the problem was pinpointed. So all's good now and imma try and focus on some other things that I need to correct on this truck because having no 4wd and all that starting making me care less for the truck but that will change now i'm just glad I was able to have a person local near me take care of it. I Should had done this a long time ago though.
Because of this comment, I fixed a 2 year issue on my 2005 Suburban being stuck in 4WD low. Screeching and jumping with every turn. It was horrendous. After watching TONS of TH-cam videos on how to fix it....I finally was lucky enough to read the above comment that said pull fuse number 6. But which frign fuse is number 6?!@!! ? After more searching... I pulled the TREC 30A (All-Wheel Drive Module) fuse. Its in the fuse box in the engine bay, pop off the cover, look at the bottom right corner...there is a grouping of four fuses, look at the far lower right corner fuse, then move left one fuse, 2nd from the end, on my car its a green fuse with "30" stamped on it. Get some needle nose plyers and gently pull it out...then go start your Suburban...no more 4WD. So, all of your 4WD problems will end.
Thank you for that video that help me get my car moving again drove to my buddy's house to ride to work car was fine got back from work went to Aleve and it was in and it like the brakes were on why I was trying to leave and turn around but thank u again
I have a 2016 escalade and I pulled fuse #6 and it worked for me. Thanks for the feedback. Different fuse # but same methodology. I did not disconnect the battery either. I'm out of town this saved my ass
Hi we are out of town with a 2016 Escalade and are stuck in 4 high. Wanted to see how long you left fuse #6 out for until it worked? Did you do anything else? Thanks so much! We are 7 hours away and really need to get home!
Hi Jamie, i got this problem, stuck in 4hi, so iam going to try your fix looks like i am looking for the out put shart running fore and aft parallel with the exhaust
Replaced the switch, didn't work. Got a "new" TCCM from parts yard. From a 2004.....bam, worked. Didn't flash or anything. Did not kill power, just replaced and hoped for luck. Jamie is right though, the 2002 model is notorious for this, so do not replace with 2002.....there are multiple crossmatches for this part. Thanks Jamie
To save you some time, speaking as a guy who was stuck in 4L searching for quick fixes because the truck wouldnt even go over 5 mph and even that you could tell was labored. Turns out GMC put a cheat code in their manual for such a thing, and you need to be at a complete stop, put the truck in neutral..... and then turn your switch. It worked like a charm for me. Did it all from inside the truck, no tools, took 10 seconds once I found the cheat.
When it was in 4L do you know which direction the transfer case fork was in? I tried to manually switch mine outta neutral, wasn’t sure which position 2hi was but mine wouldn’t go past 5mph either (probably in 4L based on ur comment) I’m just trying to find out which direction I need to turn that fork to get 2hi
thanks a lot for your help very well explain very helpful I just drove 15 miles in four wheel drive low at 35 mph pulling my boat to get home but I would do this in the morning thanks again
so glad i saw this video...literally step for step this is what i did with the exception of tccm....only if i had seen this sooner i would have went straight for the module...but again thanks
Thank you Jamie! I'm from Massachusetts and Saturday we got hit with a blizzard. Sunday I had to work. I put it in 4 wheel drive got through the city fine. When I hit the highway it wouldn't shut off. I looked up a video, yours. It worked!! 2007 GMC Envoy.
I managed to disengage the 4 WD stuck on low, by removing the #8 fuse first, which I can here the actuator come alive, went into truck, still stuck in 4 Lo, put it into neutral, she finally switched to 2WD👌…. TY for the info.
OK I think this is the video that will solve my problem with my 03 trailblazer! (praying) I have already replaced my switch and transfer case actuator last winter. It will go into 4hi for maybe 15 mins but then shifts into 4 low automatically somehow like after i park it or try to shift to 2 hi again when parked.
I have a 2004 Silverado.I’m stuck in Manuel changed my transfer case actuator and switch when I switched the actuator I put it in manual with the truck in park put everything together now it don’t switch gears at all do u thing it will be the same module u showed on the video
OK the easiest thing to do is to set something up either in the forward or reverse depending on which way you’re going to go and put it together like that because I totally did that in neutral I did it I kept it in neutral manually shift at it in a neutral and then put the actuator back on sitting in neutral
i replaced the transfer case motor selector last year because my 4x4 was shifting into gear at random and light came on. now the other day my transfer case is stuck in auto mode and won’t shift into anything else and i can hear the motor trying to move and making its sounds but no action 2003 suburban 4x4
Can you tell me how the best way to fix a small gas leak , on a 03chevrolet Silverado 4x4 extended cab , it's located between the tank an EVAP , I think it's a return line . It's leaking where the quick connect hooks together , not sure if it's just dirty or what but would like to fix it without removing tank. I haven't drove it in like a year just wondering what you thought about it , but only time it leaks is when I start it and I guess when I cut it off it releases pressure I guess
I would just get the little repair kit from one of the auto parts stores for fuel line and basically it’s just a hose they’ll slide over the two ends in a couple clamps or if you need to if it’s three leaking on the quick connect you can actually cut that out and replace that as well so they’ve got a real cheap about 10 bucks
I just went through this myself. Recent owner of a classic TB (& liking it though repairs are NOT cheap it rides nice and quiet) Like the AWD and 4WD options as I don't have a set of new Winter tires (have new All Seasons but found I really should be using actual winter tires). First time trying 4lo to get in my driveway after the plow left a wave across the end. Set the 4lo and boom! It rammed over the snow bank like it was an Ant hill. I forgot about the manual stating you're supposed to be in N when returning to 2hi and set in while in P. Light flashing about 8 times which I think is an Error Code and went back to 4lo. For me personally (this time) (I already know that the motor fails eventually and using different sizes of tires prematurely wreck the transfer case) I think it's solved by having it "Key on, select N then re select 2hi". I heard that familiar "NooOOt" sound the TC motor made before. Thanks for the info! I now know it's not major surgery to swap out the selection motor when it finally dies. Here's hoping it's just my not using the recommended procedure. One other thing I noticed about this model of vehicle vs the same era GM's I had before this one; The heater seems really small! I had an Astro before and it was so incredibly hot at the vents I couldn't touch them long and the cabin was always cozy warm fog free. The cooling system on it was scuzzy inside and still was good heat. This one the cooling system was a little milky when it was flushed out and renewed (clean rad etc fresh coolant) Barely warm enough to clear the frost. Just wondering if all the GMT 360 series are this way or my heater core has a rag over the intake kinda thing.
i saw a post that said my encoder ring is why it tells my to service 4x4 . light says it s in 4x4 hi but im sure it s in 2 hi . any thoughts ? will the puter make it shift into another range as im driving ? can it be driven with the shift motor off ?
brock3367 Hi Brock, TheCarMan addressed your question on today's vlog. We are in the process of uploading it now so be sure to check it out. It will be titled Vlog 2.
Jamie, I did the battery reset. I did the fuse pulling reset. Both under dash and under hood. I cleaned the ground to perfection under the driver side door. I put a different tccm in. Still my lights do not light up on the switch after starting. And I am in low gear. Is it the shift transfer motor itself? I am going crazy. I was low on transfer case fluid and added some. Do I have to pull the front drive shaft in order to get at the bolts for the transfer motor? Therefore allowing me to shift the spline mechanically.
+Della Staggs I would manually shift it back in the two wheel drive out if you have a problem with the shaft over then drop it to keep it from walking back in
I just got a 2002 Trailblazer LT. The 4 wheel switch lights aren't on now. I'm going to try the battery drain fix first, then the module. My question is how do I know what gear ratio I have to get the right module? You have the best explanation on here so thanks for the video.
I truly appreciate your video but have some questions to help alleviate my confusion; your very first instruction is to disconnect the battery cable (2:17-2:30). Then you say to turn the lights on for 30 minutes. If I've already disconnected the battery, what is the point to this step (as lights will not be going on) so ... please explain this instruction and what you expect to gain by turning on a light switch that has no power to it.
I have a 99 gmc suburban and its stuck in 4lo when i try to switch to 2hi it makes a cluck noise from under the truck i was wondering would this work on that and in all honestly i never really use the 4wd anyway i live in a city....thank u
Jamie. I am having a problem with my 04 Chevy Silverado. It's stuck in 4low. I tried replacing the shift indicator. That didn't work. What are the chances it's the module or the shift motor?
Hi JJ, I have a 2004 Surburban 1500, as soon as I put it in drive and give it gas its an immediate grinding taking place. I tried to switch it to 4 lo then back to auto awd, but no change. it is just a constant grinding. I will try the reset method and remove the motor to see what happens.
OK, did the battery disconnect and fuse removal no change - still grinds. I have a Borg Warner 4484 Transfer Case, so my transfer case motor is different as well as the location of it. Also my control module does not seem to be located in the area as yours. Any ideas on where it would be on a 04 suburban ?
Hey Jamie, Just want to let you know this video helped me with my 2006 Porsche Cayenne S. Has the same set up did what you said to get it out of 4 wheel drive low and the problem went away. Thanks for your info. There isn't much in the way of "four wheel drive system fault" on the internet when it comes to Porsches. The Cayenne has a similar transfer case, transfer case module and transfer case motor. Saved me lots of bucks. Thanks again SteveKJR
Thank you so much. Super informative, learned a lot and you saved my ass brother. Really appreciate your time and effort to help us financially unblessed . Exit me- a wiser man.
Good stuff boss I bought a 07 sierra and rhe 4x4 light is on I changed the actuator. No fix.. I guess now I need the shifter module eeh this is my newest truck I'm lost.
I just put in another transfer case for a guy last week. It was stuck in 4 low. 3rd one in the last year (different trucks) the first place to look if you're stuck in 4 low is to check the oil level. Most of the ones I've replaced were completely dry.
Sam Mobley Hi Sam, yes it is!! Just follow my instructions. Its the same principle, you're just shifting it manually instead of using the shift motor to do it.
What model/make are you using for the demo? I have a 2007 Chevy Silverado and the #8 fuse trick does not work. What does the #8 fuse control on your demo model? Thanks.
I have a 99 yukon. That was stuck in 4H. (It was a struggle to get it into 4H to begin with) then it stayed. After watching your video, i put the truck in N and shut off the engine. Then while still in N, i held the 2H button down while i started the engine. (Foot on brake) and it finaly switched into 2H (was stuck for 2 days!) Service 4wd light has been coming on while i drive every now and then. Been doing that a long time without and noticable problems. System has been switching fine manualy (until recently)...i never use the auto 4wd setting.
An update... i replaced the switch cluster and had had no more problems...i opened the old cluster and could see phisical damage to some of the solder joints. Its possible the connection overheated and caused the damage. We will see how long this cluster holds up.
Almost a decade later and you’re still helping people. I had this same problem today and the fuse method worked like a charm. Doing the Lords work brother. I appreciate ya
Thank you! Glad to hear that the video is still helping people. It’s stories like this that make me want to keep them going.
Can you plz tell me which fuse is it

I got 99 problems and now thanks to you Jamie, only 98. Thank you! Just had to disconnect battery for a while and reconnect. $0. You rock.
Well, I was able to take the encoder motor out and manually put it in 2wd without having to take the driveshaft out. It did work. Thanks for you time, your information and help.
Hey man ,I'm the guy you helped. All I need and want is 2h. And I was stuck in 4l
Being a residential service provider i go to my my money😅
Thanks Jamie , Looked this up to help a friend out. Your a good person posting things just to help others. Many of God's blessings to you.

Thanks for the post. I've been looking all over the web for answers about my 4WD problems I've had with my '03 HUMMER H2. This by far answered all the questions. Really, thanks!
The fuse reset worked on my 2016 Silverado (for now) as well. Thank you!
Hey, how did you know what fuse to pull ?

Great help. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a car repair video be so to-the-point with no fat around the edges. Probably the easiest TH-cam repair i’ve ever done. Shoutout to this guy

Jamie, you are the reason why Americans are the greatest people on earth!! Thank you for simple common sense explanations!
Thank you so much! Very glad to hear that it helped you out.
This is the lead up event:
I was going up a hill with some loose rocks and I selected auto 4wd and heard a load clunk.
Same here
Yes. On the 2014 and 2015 Silverado and Denali 1500 it is fuse #6 rather than #8. Identified as "4WD Transfer Case Electronic Control Fuse".
Did you unhook the number 6 fuse before or after unhooking and re hooking the battery?

+Scott Richardson that's awesome brother I'm glad it worked out for you and if we could do anything for you in the future please let us know
Sitting in the truck with my husband... thank you!! 2 high :)
Thanks a bunch. I've been looking for a while on how to fix my 4wd. I figured it was something that I can do myself but didn't know exactly what to look for. U r the man.
garnet basarath thks yeah the dealers just try to make it so expensive and complicated in reality it's really inexpensive and pretty simple to do, good luck man if I can help you in any way shape or form let me know
@@jamiejonesthecarman how about where the tcm motor thingy is so I can remove it? 2009 gmc sierra.
Disconnect the battery for an hour. Reconnected and back to good. Can’t thank you enough. May God continue to bless you and your family!
So you did not have to remove the fuse also? I'm not sure which fuse it is mine are a little different than his were
I don't understand how you can turn the lights on with the battery unhooked
Direct, spatially descriptive, concise and with caveats included - awesome, man! (liked)
great video, am personally aware of the nomenclature, but for those that aren't, it must be a huge help! and I watched it to brush up on it, big help!.thanks!
Hi Jamie, You saved me a lot of time and money, the reboot fixed the problem. you're the best...
Did the battery pull and removed and put the fuse back in. 02 trailblazer. Worked like a charm. Thanks for the video!
+Sara Pardey magic
Thank you for your time and your care to help people out that are in need!!! Personally, I greatly appreciate it!!!! God bless you and your family!!!
I got stuck in 4 low myself yesterday I drove home maybe 1/2 mile to a mile home luckily I was close enough when I got in trouble I just pulled the # 8 fuse and it shot it back into 2wheel disabling the 4wd system
What was final fix for this?
What, how's that work?
I read this and pulled the # 6 on mine 2014 gmc and it worked outstanding thanks
Pulling the battery cable and fuse did the trick. Thank you brother!
I hv an 04 Tahoe and idk which fuse to pull. What is it labeled as??
Not sure if it was your advice or luck but I couldn't find a wrench to disconnect my battery so all I did was remove the spark plug and waited a few minutes and it worked thanks very much!
Do you put the encoder motor back on after you turn it to 2wd? Thanks
SILENCE :/
+Jackie Sullivan that's awesome go have some fun in the mud
JamieJones TheCarMan Minnesota. Snow. Ugh. But...I drove the first snowy roads of the season today - used A4 and it handled great. Sure wish I'd known about the switch light earlier! I also think finding this issue was a happy accident and the "feeling" I had of being stuck in 4WD was due to low tire pressure. ✌
+Jackie Sullivan you sure are right about Minnesota being cold is the coldest place I've ever been in my life
Have 2002 4x4 1500 silverado in 4wd . Is there a fuse for 4wd in engine compartment? Look on fuse box cover and it doesn’t show a fuse for 4wd
Thank you brother..i followed your advice and it worked like a charm.ive got 1 2000 chevy s10 and it was stuck in 4wd hi
The manual for mine says best to be rolling slow in N hit the switch (out of 4lo)
I tried your suggestion first (didn't start the engine) and I heard that motor de selected 4lo and went back to 2hi.
Thanks 👍
Maybe that's why mine won't go anywhere
THANKS!!!! Been stuck in 4wd low for 3 days. I can't wait to go outside and get to it on my 06 TB
On my 2015 Silverado Z71, I pulled fuse number six and I am out of four-wheel-drive
How did you do it
Braaaa that shit was way easier then taking off the transfer case😂😂 appreciate that
Because of this comment, I fixed a 2 year issue on my 2005 Suburban being stuck in 4WD low.

Did you put the fuse back in
@@scotthamilton2702 No. Take it out and keep it out, and no more problems!
Thank you for that video that help me get my car moving again drove to my buddy's house to ride to work car was fine got back from work went to Aleve and it was in and it like the brakes were on why I was trying to leave and turn around but thank u again
No problem man!! Glad that the video helped you and thanks for the support.
About 10 min
You should be able to do the speed limit in 4 hi
Hi Jamie, i got this problem, stuck in 4hi, so iam going to try your fix looks like i am looking for the out put shart running fore and aft parallel with the exhaust
Sounds like a plan
Thank you sooooo much!! Really helped me out. 🤘Mine was the #6 fuse 'tccm' transfer case control module on a 2004 chevy colorado.
+Terry Christle right on right on my brother glad it worked out for you
it worked just like you said unplug battery & fuse Got live action God bless you.
Awesome great job
I have a '04 Tahoe. Idk which fuse to pull. Anyone know which one???
To save you some time, speaking as a guy who was stuck in 4L searching for quick fixes because the truck wouldnt even go over 5 mph and even that you could tell was labored. Turns out GMC put a cheat code in their manual for such a thing, and you need to be at a complete stop, put the truck in neutral..... and then turn your switch. It worked like a charm for me. Did it all from inside the truck, no tools, took 10 seconds once I found the cheat.
When you put in neutral , what switch do you turn
It will not go into 2wd . Clicks twice that's all . Now what ?
Thanks man I appreciate your help im going to tell my dad about this he's a mechanic and now he can help me do this 😁
Thank you man, I just pulled the fuse and it went back to normal!

Ty I got stuck in 2wd in a deep hole . I needed 4wd low n I'm going to do as u said going clockwise to 4wd lo ty very much.
Fantastic video!!! Great information and to the point and no blah blah blah - Great Job sir!
I have an 02 Yukon and apreciate your advice and simple fixes, you save me alot of money and worry. Thank much
Larry Willis Jr i also have an 02 yukon with the same problem. what did you do to fix it?
I managed to disengage the 4 WD stuck on low, by removing the #8 fuse first, which I can here the actuator come alive, went into truck, still stuck in 4 Lo, put it into neutral, she finally switched to 2WD👌…. TY for the info.
OK I think this is the video that will solve my problem with my 03 trailblazer! (praying)
I have already replaced my switch and transfer case actuator last winter.
OK the easiest thing to do is to set something up either in the forward or reverse depending on which way you’re going to go and put it together like that because I totally did that in neutral I did it I kept it in neutral manually shift at it in a neutral and then put the actuator back on sitting in neutral
i replaced the transfer case motor selector last year because my 4x4 was shifting into gear at random and light came on. now the other day my transfer case is stuck in auto mode and won’t shift into anything else and i can hear the motor trying to move and making its sounds but no action
2003 suburban 4x4
Recent owner of a classic TB (& liking it though repairs are NOT cheap it rides nice and quiet)
Like the AWD and 4WD options as I don't have a set of new Winter tires (have new All Seasons but found I really should be using actual winter tires).
One other thing I noticed about this model of vehicle vs the same era GM's I had before this one;
The heater seems really small!
I had an Astro before and it was so incredibly hot at the vents I couldn't touch them long and the cabin was always cozy warm fog free.
The cooling system on it was scuzzy inside and still was good heat.
This one the cooling system was a little milky when it was flushed out and renewed (clean rad etc fresh coolant)
Barely warm enough to clear the frost.
Just wondering if all the GMT 360 series are this way or my heater core has a rag over the intake kinda thing.
You saved me big $$$$ and some of my already thinning hair....THANK YOU YOUNG FELLA!!!
i saw a post that said my encoder ring is why it tells my to service 4x4 . light says it s in 4x4 hi but im sure it s in 2 hi . any thoughts ? will the puter make it shift into another range as im driving ? can it be driven with the shift motor off ?
Thank God Manuel is overriding my manual override...
I have a 02 s10 zr2. The 4 wheel drive is not engaging so what I gather from this video I should start with the TCCM is that correct?
brock3367 Hi Brock, TheCarMan addressed your question on today's vlog. We are in the process of uploading it now so be sure to check it out. It will be titled Vlog 2.
ok
brock3367 Let me know if you were able to locate it, Brock.
one last question these actuater do they have to have a gear ratio to work?
Jamie, I did the battery reset. I did the fuse pulling reset. Both under dash and under hood. I cleaned the ground to perfection under the driver side door. I put a different tccm in. Still my lights do not light up on the switch after starting. And I am in low gear. Is it the shift transfer motor itself? I am going crazy. I was low on transfer case fluid and added some. Do I have to pull the front drive shaft in order to get at the bolts for the transfer motor? Therefore allowing me to shift the spline mechanically.
can you remove short front drive shaft on gmc manual shift to change to two wheel drive in emergency situation of truck stuck in neutral
+Della Staggs I would manually shift it back in the two wheel drive out if you have a problem with the shaft over then drop it to keep it from walking back in
Mine is an Tahoe 2002 Autoride.... Stuck in 4WD Low.... any video on that??. Thanks a lot
I just got a 2002 Trailblazer LT. The 4 wheel switch lights aren't on now. I'm going to try the battery drain fix first, then the module. My question is how do I know what gear ratio I have to get the right module? You have the best explanation on here so thanks for the video.
It was just my fuse. Easy fix for me ☺. now I know where to look for next time lol. Thanks

Is there usually a lot of vibration in 4hi in a bit of snow? 2 & All wheel works fine.
When it idles there vibration but not will driving.
You sir are awesome!!! This saved my life today!!
I truly appreciate your video but have some questions to help alleviate my confusion; your very first instruction is to disconnect the battery cable (2:17-2:30). Then you say to turn the lights on for 30 minutes. If I've already disconnected the battery, what is the point to this step (as lights will not be going on) so ... please explain this instruction and what you expect to gain by turning on a light switch that has no power to it.
ive been wondering the same thing
Would that Transfer case Control module cause a no start no crank?
No
I have a 99 gmc suburban and its stuck in 4lo when i try to switch to 2hi it makes a cluck noise from under the truck i was wondering would this work on that and in all honestly i never really use the 4wd anyway i live in a city....thank u
Jamie. I am having a problem with my 04 Chevy Silverado. It's stuck in 4low. I tried replacing the shift indicator. That didn't work. What are the chances it's the module or the shift motor?
Andrea Worthington Hi Andrea, more than likely, its probably the shift motor. Be sure to let us know what you find out.
can this be done with the push button version of 4wd
Worked with mine
Hi JJ, I have a 2004 Surburban 1500, as soon as I put it in drive and give it gas its an immediate grinding taking place. I tried to switch it to 4 lo then back to auto awd, but no change. it is just a constant grinding. I will try the reset method and remove the motor to see what happens.
OK, did the battery disconnect and fuse removal no change - still grinds. I have a Borg Warner 4484 Transfer Case, so my transfer case motor is different as well as the location of it. Also my control module does not seem to be located in the area as yours. Any ideas on where it would be on a 04 suburban ?
i got a 99 chevy silverado 4 by 4 and it is stuck in neutral and wont go in park or any other gears. do you know what that can be? thanks
Exit me- a wiser man.
what did you mean when you said you can always take it in and get it flashed.
Good stuff boss
I bought a 07 sierra and rhe 4x4 light is on I changed the actuator.
My trailblazer is stuck in four hi how do I get it out of it is it the same way u show in this video
Sam Mobley Hi Sam, yes it is!! Just follow my instructions. Its the same principle, you're just shifting it manually instead of using the shift motor to do it.
just one more question what are the initial for the fuse number 8 bcuz in my chevy blazer the fuse box is different, then the one in the video
+Samuel Martinez idk off the top but google it or call dealer parts dept
What model/make are you using for the demo? I have a 2007 Chevy Silverado and the #8 fuse trick does not work. What does the #8 fuse control on your demo model? Thanks.
I have a 99 yukon. That was stuck in 4H. (It was a struggle to get it into 4H to begin with) then it stayed.
After watching your video, i put the truck in N and shut off the engine. Then while still in N, i held the 2H button down while i started the engine. (Foot on brake) and it finaly switched into 2H (was stuck for 2 days!)
Service 4wd light has been coming on while i drive every now and then.
@@daphneblake7889 how the cluster holding up
Amazing county boy. can you tell me about fan clutch had it changed runs rough he went from smooth to a gas hog?
Thanks brother you're a lifesaver!
Would this work if my light nob of the 4wheel drive light is stuck on the 4high but its on the 2low could i do this
