@TheSoldierOfFortune Well, I'm a big proponent of competition breeding higher quality output, so I'm all for people looking to alternative sources for entertainment. Personally, I've been looking to Japan and the Hollywood of the Past for some time now. Hollywood wasn't always a creative wasteland, and it needn't always be in the future.
Right? As a Canadian I feel BETRAYED by Google because I still see Canadian Mainstream News flung at me - even though they PROMISED to stop showing it. We do not WANT their crap and still they demand our loyalty?
I think it is generational myself. I doubt that today's writers are avid book readers like alot of the writers in the 1980s and 90s. I'm sure their are some great writers out there, but not as many as the quality writers in the past decades.
@@brittscott4673 Could be. Personaly I think they are just the wrong writters for the job that focus on the wrong things. They were hired by people who dosn't have their priorities straight. If you're a writer, and your boss orders you to write garbage, no matter how hard working you are, or how talanted you are, the result will be garbage. Ofc people are going to point to the writers - but I would argue, the bigger fault lies in people hiring those writers. Maybe some of them shouldn't be writing a movie script for Star Wars. Maybe they would be better if they would put their talent into other ventures. That's just the reality. And maybe, it's not just that the writing is bad - but the whole concept and premise recent Disney remakes and Star Wars sequels stand on is bad. And no writer in the world can save it. Persoanly, I would argue it's both. And these 2 problems feed one another. Because the premise is bad, good writers will go somewhere else, or will be unwilling to write a "woke" show for example. And because writers that are willing are bad, they work hard, yet aren't compensated for it, nor is their product any good. Which means any potential new writer will also want to stay away from the garbage.
@@brittscott4673 I thought being a writer would necessitate more than a modicum of education and exposure to different styles of writing beyond a community college level. That should at least afford them the ability to see that what they're writing is stupid and doesn't make sense, one would think. Also, the idea that someone enjoys writing and sees it as an artform yet hates reading is pretty funny.
Ironic that the writer's strike is being put on by "writers" who are so tone deaf they would throw the people who might support them under a bus of fan-blaming because they won't acknowledge their own mistakes.

the “get over it” response is for dense idiots like those in these comment section who just complain. the other response is so that writers can legitimately afford necessities to live from their work.
There’s a delay. Films which were already in post-production are still trickling out for now, but since no new films are being written now, you’ll REALLY feel the pinch soon.
@@LeonSKennedy7777 Probably but I watch so much Chinese and Korea cinema that I really will never notice this strike either way🤷🏽♀️ The few American shows I do watch, I am usually in catching up mode. So yeah

It wont crash and burn. Life teaches us real fast, when you get hungry, surival kicks in. They just arent hungry yet. We have to let them lose billions and the writers mortgage their houses before they get hungry. Me neither, I haven't been to a cinema for nearly 7 years anyway, if I want to watch something, I can just watch it on legally flexible streaming sites.
Considering even a recent 'hit' like 'Wednesday' was basically saved by a 20 something actress who knew more about the main character than the writers did (and she still couldn't convince them that Wednesday having two love interests wasn't a Wednesday thing at all, and it turned out kinda cringe), and the writers for 'the Witcher' even went as far as to openly admit that they meant to deviate from the source material, I think it's safe to day that the writers need to lose badly on this strike. They've been too infiltrated by the Woke, and been handed the reigns to too many franchises that should simply print money, and managed to fail with them. The don't care what they ruin, as long as they get to inject their politics into it. They're not going to lose money if a project fails, the producers will. The writers will just cash their paychecks and go off to ruin something else. They need to have this power taken from them now. They had their chance to prove how valuable they are, and they botched it. Let them tell their story walking.
Wow. The fact that you know this about programs which aren't worth watching in the first place is frightening. There's no need to get wrapped in the politics as you have because ALL modern properties are 100% predictably GARBAGE. Know this ahead of time and free yourself from the agony that is watching any modern show or movie.
You seriously believed Jenna Ortega's mouthing off about how she had to rewrite everything? Simping for her isn't going to make her touch you in your swimsuit area, Bub. There's no such thing as "good writers" that do this for a living. a GOOD WRITER writes for posterity. For sharing his story to the world. Or censored writing - or whatever you want to call a worthless piece of paper.
The 80s was hugely creative because so many risks were taken. People were thinking the world might end at any minute due to the cold war, people partied, did drugs and risks happened as a result. For every 7 stinkers they had 3 massive hits which covered the losses for the others.

Newspapers once had HUGE profits, even with lots of reporters and photographers and editors producing good product. Twenty years ago, the big owners saw their profits start slipping. Twenty to thirty percent profit margins dropped to ten or fifteen percent, a level many industries only have in wet dreams. That’s when the traditional owners started selling out to hedge funds which began to dismantle their properties. Today, Gannett content producers are going on strike, apparently not aware that they’re lucky to still have careers. Hollywood has gotten used to ridiculous profits and when they begin to be unsustainable, the studios will eventually be taken over by hedge funds who won’t hire woke millennials…they’ll fire four out of five employees. Many of those striking today will be back to working in food service.

As the worst thing about current TV & movies is the writing, it is difficult to have sympathy for the writers.

It's not going to stop. Why? Because Blackrock & Vanguard Group have political strings to pull and fingers in many pies, so they can basically have ventures like these be indirectly subsidized by taxpayer dollars. Yep, that's right. They're gonna keep pushing "The Message" and we're all gonna pay for it - maybe twice, but at least once...
Continue to use AI scripts.
This video is gold. When the "we used to treat celebrities like gods" headline was brought up, it painted a giant smile on my face.
Dude, Gary is on fire this episode. Production quality and subject matter are always great here, but this video was on a new level. Keep it up, man!
It's the little things - the fine details. The specific episode of Quantum Leap to look into the mirror. The violin players in the background. These are masterpieces of incepting a joke in someone's brain by giving them 2 cross streets, and letting them mentally drive there to see that the address is off a cliff or under a mountain.
Your documentaries are the greatest work you've ever done!
I do like this theory that too much out-of-band exposure to stars is kind of what helped kill the star, because we can see them for who they are now.
Exactly 💯... social media gas killed the Hill stars.
yeah no question about it.
"SCREW YOUR FREEDOM!!"
Internet killed the Hollywood star.
dude, your stuff is infinitely more entertaining than ANYTHING holewould has released in the last decade.
and Hollywood is not the only place where films are made
I prefer watching these videos than anything Hollywood is currently producing.
Same. I haven't watched a single new movie in almost a decade, but channels poking fun at them have been my favorite kind of entertainment.
1:01 wears double facemask, proceeds to talk about truth XD
Pierry deserves an Editors Guild award for this one 🖖🏻 🎥 ✂️
Came to post the same thing. Well done indeed.
Ditto 💯
Unless the Editors Guild goes on strike too.
Gawd, seeing schwarznegger say "screw your freedom" again makes my blood boil. Sitting there in one of his many mansions whilst he's got millions in the bank, makes me despise him and Hollywood as a whole

2020 just proved how WORTHLESS the entire entertainment industry really is. that goes for professional sports as well. There argument that without writers you won't be entertained" is hilarious. they haven't made entertaining programming in YEARS
@Steven DaviesHe is the definitive Mr. Freeze.
“The Sea is always right!” Whoever created that line deserves so much more.
Funny how they don’t seem to accept “bad writing“ as a legitimate criticism.
After calling fans toxic racist misogynist for years, they now think we’re going to support them?
Agreed
Right
Leftists are convinced the world around them can be created out of thin air, all you need is money. Do you want better writing? All they need is money, so throw it at them. Do you think you're a woman? Sure, buy some hormones, chop your gentleman's sausage off (or not) and go and shower with the other women! Do you want a better paid job? Claim racism. Do you want free money? Claim reparations. Do you want to end racism? Pay higher wages.
They don't live in reality, they're vacationing in their own made-up world.
Well when they are convinced so wholeheartedly that they are “on the right side of history” with everything they write, it of course never crosses their minds.
It’s not ‘bad’, we the viewing public just don’t ‘get it’ in their eyes.
true that
💯 as far as I’m concerned BOTH the WGA and the studios can screw themselves. They want my support? Get on your knees, apologize for absolutely nuking characters like Luke, Han, Picard, Spock, Lando, Sarah Connor, and soon Indiana Jones.
If I knocked over a shelf and cost the company I worked for $10000 I wouldn't be able to demand more money.
Most the writers of these woke shows aren’t writers. As that implies thought, planning, story, characters and caring.
None of the above applies when you just want to push the beliefs of a cult.

Also, being graduates of liberal colleges, with no actual experience at anything, colleges that have softened & lowered standards of college level writing, editing, and literature classes to keep their students happy & unchallenged in their safe spaces. Also while turning teaching into a popularity contest, with students rating teachers, so the college professors that go easy, tell them what they want to hear, and suck up to the students , get the good ratings. Further lowering standards. A college professor did a video about this.
Goddamnit Gary, Pierry, Garret... what an amazing video. This should be shown to everyone involved in Hollywood business... at least once every year.
Garrett has two T's. He's touchy about it. It might be the man bun.
Dude, the quality of your editing and writing is really outstanding. I edit videos myself and I wish I had your chops. Bravo.
That beautiful reading by Orson wells made me miss real actors
Imagine if the Pipe Fitter Unions collectively did shotty work, were constantly behind schedule, and causing problems on EVERY job… then imagine those same people go on strike because they want to get paid more and receive more work… now do you understand why we don’t want to hear from WGA?
The pipe fitters I've worked with, on average, do a decent job, are usually behind schedule, and cause problems on every job.
That said most of the projects they work on don't implode, explode, or leak constantly.
Don’t forget to blame the customer too
'We have the truth on our side!'

1:00 Whoa whoa whoa... Did I hear that right? "Getting paid less and doing less [work]"?
Well, NO SHIT!! If you're working less hours, OF COURSE you're going to be paid less! This is something I expect to have to explain to the kids at my fast food jobs, not these guys!!
Huge kudos to Pierry for shoehorning the entire FF6 PSX intro into this beastly video apropos of nothing in particular! 😌👌
Apropos of nothing? No, no. Clearly, he's subtly contrasting good writing with the trash we get more recently.
@@Placeboshotgun LOL in my entire life online I have never seen the word "Apropos" actually used in a sentence.
I almost forgot the meaning of the word, props to you guys for the creative writing.
This is where studios should just open ChatGPT and prompt: “Write a screenplay that isn’t sh*t.” Whatever comes out will still be better than what most of these “writers” keep churning out.
Yep and remember GPT-4 is actually not that good at writing as people have proven even with its regression capacity. But its outputs are WORKABLE unlike what the writers are making. Heck the writers are getting to the point they cannot even keep continuity in the same scene let alone across the series.

Nerdrotic said, ".... a lot of very hard work and dedication has gone into destroying a lot of the things we love and destroying the relationship between Hollywood and its audience, this was no accident..." That is the key to understanding why this is going on. If you can back up to the power that be, well beyond people like Kathleen Kennedy and even the CEO's of Disney, that is where the answer lies. Those are the people that are putting their resources, like Disney, into "destroying a lot of the things we love." It is painfully obvious. It's been going on for many years now, even before COVID in 2020.
Thing is Kathleen Kennedy used to be good at her job, she was producer on the 3 good Indiana Jones,
The quality of writing in Hollywood right now is IN THE GUTTER ... and they want MORE pay ... bring back the people who knew how to write a good script !

Thing is, even if the writers weren't woke wackjobs, there are currently requirements for films getting any approvals, and there is a whole diversity checklist that every script has to pass right now. This essentially guarantees that films will keep getting the whole "design by committee" treatment.
Shred the f***ing lot for toilet paper.
America is starting to become like a communist little by little its sad to watch i mean i hope the actual creative people can move on to European media or somewhere more free
Yup. So even regardless of the writers, the ONLY media we will EVER get now will be full of LIES and ANTI (YT) messaging.
I wouldn't be suprised if they get paid for this strike at this point.
It sounds like you are referring to the requirements that a film needs to meet in order to qualify to be nominated by the academy to be eligible to win an Oscar.
As for these woke writers alot of them probably went to west coast schools where their professors indoctrinated them in wokeism.
Some of these writers may not be able to write something free of wokeness because it's just so ingrained into their own writing sensibilities .
THEY HAVE BEEN BRAINWASHED TO THE POINT THAT WOKENESS IS INTERTWINED WITH THEIR CORE CREATIVITY.
Wait...2 masks...outside...in 2023? I give up.

@John Klise I think they thought we were all equally stupid enough to flagellate ourselves on the altar of st George the Floyd but unfortunately some of us in reality know what an overdose looks like even in a video. Some of us also understand what drug trials are and aren’t supposed to look like as well. I refused to support people that tell me to act against my own best judgment. Ever again. Wokeness has shattered my perceptions of some actors and actresses revealing just how two-faced and opportunistic they are when their careers are pressured into becoming "one of us" or doing the more common sense thing of being an individual and taking a stand. This writer's strike should go on for as long as it has to if it dissolves the bad workers making movies and series unwatchable, financially bloated failures.
