    I am Christian and have dreamed of visiting Israel for 30 years. Finally visiting in May with my husband and two children. We have all enjoyed your insightful videos and ordered your tour books. Thank you for explaining how different groups approach these complex issue. It's amazing that you can make these videos about controversial issues and while you express your own opinion you still seem neutral.

      Here's my interpretation: First there was Judaism and then there were cults, or sects as we call them in Dutch. And not only Christians (and later) Muslims, but also Chabad can be classified as being a cult. What defines a cult? They have one single dogmatic leader, the followers blindly believe in the teachings of the leader and the followers are urged to spread the word. For Christians that was Paul, for Muslims it was Mohammad and Chabad has the 'Alter Rebbe'.

    • @linara255
      @linara255 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@RudydeGroot Except Christians do not believe blindly and their ultimate leader is not Paul, but Jesus Himself. (Sure there are some religious Christians who blindly believe in the Church or someone's else teachings instead testing them with Jesus words, but I'm talking about sane Christians).

    • @linara255
      @linara255 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@RudydeGroot Your question shows that you don‘t understand the essence of the faith. Jesus (Jèshu if you wish) never teached us to practice Judaism but to love the God with all the heart and another human as self. This is what we do. Moreover, Jesus Himsel was constantly criticized and persecuted by religious Jews (Oren mentions them in the video) who blamed Him for not following the Shabat, serving the devil, blaspheming etc, finally crucified. When the only thing He actually did was loving God the Father, the people and talking the Truth. Same happened to His disciples - their comunity was called sect/cult, they were criticized and persecuted by the same religious Jews. Funny or not, same happens today...

With folks like you, it is no wonder that the Jewish people continue to shine in all their endeavors and to kick butt, all over the world. I hope somebody from the Ministries of Tourism and/or Foreign affairs watches your presentations and hopefully makes use of your approach and (very Israeli) style. Fun fact - The Seder also has its roots in the Mass! The Bible tells Jews to eat a meal of lamb & unleaven bread at Passover, but the Passover Haggadah that recalls the story of the Exodus wasn't part of Passover until the 2nd century AD. If was influenced by the way Christians would tell the story of Jesus at their meals to keep his memory alive & teach the young.

The coins from that period are well-documented, and actually include the word “Yehud”. The Achaemenid Yehud coins are followed by the Ptolemaic Yehud coins…over 2400 years ago. I get it. Plan two tours, an eight-day EXHAUSTING bus tour just to get the grand overview, and then (as I hope for myself eventually) a second tour aimed at the museums at a more sane pace. Since museums each need four hours at minimum, a bus tour will leave the academic person feeling exceedingly rushed and thus they avoid the museums. The same for active dig sites, minimum of four hours each. For first timers, skip the Dead Sea and the Galilee boat ride. These are so-so experiences when you have more time to spare. Try to spend some nights in a rural setting away from the dense cities. Oh, and for meals, enjoy the falafel and especially the shawarma!

      I will say, I too struggled to find the true connections of our faith with the old Testament but some 15 years ago I found that connection through the very obscure branch of Christianity called Messianic Christianity. It basically sheds itself of the pagan practices the Catholic/Pentecostal churches do and connects itself to the Torah and to Grace as the first century church once did before antisemitism crept into our faith.

The best example I remember was, showing the the Passover Haggadah and turning to the third cup of wine where we raise the cup and ask for redemption . I pointed out, if you look at the famous painting of Jesus last supper, it shows him raising the glass. The last Supper is believed to be Passover, and Jesus raises the glass to welcome Elijah . There are many connections of course, which you mentioned in your videos.

      That is so cool! My neighbor's Christian church has a passover feast each year. A rabbi from a near by synagogue officiates. It's very authentic. Your explanation just reminded me of that.
      I think one of the most significant connections is between the Old Testament and the Tanakh. They contain the exact same books.
      The Torah is the 1st 5 books of the OT, the Law of Moses.
      The Tenakh is the Law of Moses, prophets and psalms.
      Jesus Himself refers to the Tanakh in the OT, for example: Luke 24:44: And Jesus said unto them, "These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the *Law of Moses, and in the Prophets, and in the Psalms,* concerning me."
      Jesus is clearly referring to the Tanakh (which is divided into those 3 sections. After listening to Oren's insightful videos, the last words, "concerning me" became clear. He was referring to all the prophecies concerning himself, but especially those such as in Isaiah, that predicted his crucifixion. Those last words "concerning me" were directed at His Jewish audience, that "had rejected their own." Also prophesied. Oren is right, knowing culture and politics of those times really does deepen your understanding.

If not worshipping together, then at least respecting one another, learning each others' traditions, and engaging together in humility.

    I went to a Catholic school as a child. When I was eight the teacher brought some matzo and grape juice (no wine, darn-it) and told us that tonight was going to be the start of Passover. She explained the story of Passover from Exodus, and said that Jesus was Jewish and his family would have observed Passover for eight days. So, for the next eight days (well, six school days) we all had a small piece of matzo and a little cup of grape juice every afternoon.

Jews wear Tefflin/Muslim have a giant Tefflin aka the Kaaba stone. Jews and Muslims practice kosher/halaal. Jews and Muslim have 3/5 mandated prayers plus specific prayers for certain days and holidays. Christians cannot be prayed with because they practice trinity aka paganism in the idea of Jesus and holy ghost plus the father, that concept is paganism period. Jews have Talmud Muslim have hadith aka oral law. Jews have nothing in common with Christians Islam is our closest religion

For a Jew, the idea that any human can be God or his son, born on earth to a human mother, elevated to a postion of a trinity, is simply beyond their comprehension. But the vast majority of Jews accept that Christians worship the same God that they do. Both religions accept the Torah - Old Testament as divine revelation.
