      Just look on youtube, there are tons of videos on C1. I switched to C1 early this year, I probably never switch back, C1 is simply better, but it has its learning curve, thus a lot of tutorial watching is required.

    • @alvinpatrick
      @alvinpatrick 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@janric06 how do you feel about library management? I can probably deal with the learning curve but I'm worried about how to manage my library especially with LR CC giving me cloud storage.

    • @janric06
      @janric06 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alvinpatrick About cloud storage, I cannot really tell. My upload is so bad, it would take over a month to get it there. I use locally a NAS, and USB drives. About library, it took a while but now I love the C1 style. You can create catalogs, which is kind of the ones from LR. But in addition to that you have sessions. The difference, well, imagine the session like a catalog, but self contained. You have a folder for imported photos, then you can go through them, correct them, and you can select them (moves the photo to another subfolder "selected") or delete them (more photo to a "session trash" subfolder). Then you can generate your outputs ("output" subfolder, with more subdirectories as you please, the output recipes define all that). My way of working is that at home, I use a main catalog. But away (on laptop) I use sessions. I can already start working on photos, select/delete, tag... everything. Then at home I can simply import the session(s) into my main catalog. And if I took care to have the same dictionary of tags on my laptop and home computer, I even keep tags. It is such an efficient way to work.
      It takes time to understand, and to know how you want to work, but it is highly configurable and very powerful. After watching several lesson videos, and playing around I really got to love it. As for the cloud, you'd probably need to check for dropbox or similar.

    You should try other settings for sharpening:
    Amount = 80-125
    Radius = 0.7-1.0
    Detail = 0-10
    Masking = to your needs/likings
    I made a preset with that settings so it speeds up the all things. And results are very close if not the same as Capture One. But I am not a pixel peeper...
    I am too trying Capture One this days. I like it a lot, but not sure yet if I will switch. Differences aren’t that big in picture quality, it’s different, but not necessarily better or worse IMO... 😉
    And people are too obsessed with sharpening, it’s ridiculous this days... 🙃

    Yes, as a longtime Nikon shooter/Lightroom user I recently made the switch to Capture One when I moved to my current Fuji system. I would say that I still give a slight (very slight) nod to Lightroom in regards to asset management, but a lot of that is just learning curve and slight tweaks to my workflow. Otherwise, I love it! The control I have over colors is crazy and it seems to get better with each version not to mention how well it handles my Fuji raws.

    This is the best answer that I’ve found. I love my new XT4, but as someone who edits on Lightroom mobile on an iPad Pro, it was super disappointing to find out how poorly Lightroom handles the RAW files. I can import them on mobile, and edit them, but the JPEG version looks so much better. I guess I’m stuck shooting in JPEG for the time being. As a new Fuji user, thanks for all your tutorials. I’ve learned so much.

    Great video once again Chris. I always wanted to move to Capture One because of this worming problem in Lightroom, however, I do a lot of HDR and Panorama stitching in Lightroom. As far as I’ve seen Capture One does not have any built in pano or HDR processing abilities. That’s holding me back from the full switch. Capture One certainly processes the Fuji RAW files better hands down.

Then do some more culling and use the Enhance details on the selected files. Only then I'll work on the sharpness. But yeah 150mb raw files hurt!

    Thanks for another excellent video. I am a long-time LR user and Fuji user for about 10 years now. I've never been too fussed about this issue even though it's been well publicized for a while now. After our last big trip, to Australia, I passed my Fuji RAF files through DxO first before processing in LR Classic - essentially doing a Pure Raw. One issue with this, for my workflow, is normally I process all my photos through LR Mobile allowing me to cull the images and do some initial editing and posting a few online and to friends. Why I have DxO as well as Adobe? An offshoot of having used JIK since its inception. Stay well and keep up the excellent work.

    If C1 offered a way to organize images, I might consider making the move. However, I found that the differences that C1 makes over LR, aren't significant. I recently tried Irident X-Transformer, and it does a great job of sharpening Fuji RAF files (if you are interested in improving sharpness). I tried an edit using all three methods, LR Enhanced, C1 and Irident, and the file sizes went like this: LR Enhanced= 120MB, C1=25MB, Irident= 71MB. Images were shot with a Fuji X-T2. Even though I don't use the full Adobe subscription photo Apps (98% LR), I like being able to access PS when heavy editing is desired. C1 costs the same as Adobe Creative Cloud.

    I've been using Capture One Pro since version 7. IMHO, it is the best solution for RAW conversions of RAF's and once you get used to the workflow and tools, it is far superior to LR. Just my opinion as I have used both. I understand why more people don't use Capture One. There are some DAM issues from what I've read but most of that is personal preference I suppose. From the overall experience with Fuji RAF's I will never go back to LR.

One of the things I am still not clear about: Are the wormy noise-artifacts present only while viewing the RAW Files on screen while processing in Lightroom? Or are they still present when they are exported into the jpg from the processed RAW files.? Thanks, Andrew (in Cincinnati).

    Hi, are you still using Capture One instead of LRC? LRC has a new version very interesting. You can now work with layers.
    Has this new version of LRC worms?
    Thank you very much indeed for spending your time on these lovely videos!
    Happy New Year.

    Just came across this and immediately subd. I have been using iridient X & N transformer as even the Nikon Files weren't that great let alone the issue with xtrans. Doing a lot of stock stuff I end up with large numbers of images so using iridient can be a bit of a fiddle and takes time. Have been using capture One Pro 12 for a while with the fuji files but its not as quick and can be a bit of a faff as well. I have an old brain (66) and been using LR and PS since day one! It would be interesting to see your work flow using C1 to find out if I could adapt with the different software. Great content keep up the good work!!

    i switched to capture one last month and don't regret it, i wish i jumped ship sooner, no monthly subscription and its way faster than lightroom, oh and working with layers is awesome! I also use affinity photo as a photoshop alternative

    Hey Chris- I've used Lightroom for years. I have my workflow down and efficient. I have downloaded Capture 1 and can see a difference in the image quality. But, I'd love to see the workflow you come up with. As of now, Capture 1 is totally bogging me down. As always, loving your videos!

      Thanks Michael!!! Definitely I'm putting those together. I just published one a few minutes ago that goes over Photo Mechanic / LR workflow with XMP files. Working on others. Great to see ya here pal!!!! A total honor for me!!!!!! Yeah, C1 is the way to go for sure.

      @@pal2tech Chris- I'm basically doing this now. I do use Photo Mechanic to import (ingest) to my hard drives, then bring in what I want to Lightroom, and edit in Photoshop, and save back to the Lightroom Catalog. I guess I'll just need to find a routine that works for me with C1- can't wait to see what you come up up, as I keep playing on this end. Take care, my friend!

    This is a timely topic given the improvements in PS and LR, including mobile and working with the iPad iOS. Can you do a video on using Capture One to do raw processing and using LR to maintain your catalog and for some processing?

    Nice video, Chris. Thank you.
    I was willing to buy an Ipad Pro 11" for travelling light and editing on the go my jpg/raf files from my Fuji X T-4. But, I haven't pulled the trigger yet because of the upcoming new Ipad Pro (maybe March) and the fact I use CO in my MacBook Pro. Maybe for a rookie mistake, I haven't ever catalogued my whole library of years (including Canon files) in Lightroom. So, for me wasn't a big deal changing to the much better (IMO) PhaseOne product.
    Is there any application in AppStore that handles the Fuji files as CO does? I would like to keep the same eco-system, however, no one has a clue if one day they'll develop it for the Ipad OS. I know that the Lightroom CC app is not that bad but still, I suppose it'll have the same issues as in any PC/MAC regarding the worm effects. I mean, I don't want my photos resembling Rembrandt picture because of that!
    Tks a lot!
    Greetings from Spain.

    I am already sold! My problem is that I am slow on the uptake and Capture One does not publish written instructions. Do you have any hints on starting to learn Capture One 20 Pro Fujifilm?

    I have Capture One 12 for Fujifilm. What I'm not sure of is whether or not the default settings are 'pre-set' for RAF files? I had an older version of LR but when I switched from Canon to Fuji I found that I had to switch software too. I love C1 but the learning curve is a bit steeper. It does so much more than LR.

    Hi Pal2tech you still use both LR and CO what usages do you allocate to LR and CC? Im interested in bird photography and I hear LR has masking that is helpful to adjust select areas. Does capture have masking? Many thanks.

    I made up a preset in Lightroom for just sharpening I use with my xt2. Amount 70, radius 1.4, detail 25, masking 55. It enhances the edges but smooths the other surfaces a little. Just open a unedited raw file make those adjustments to sharpening, click develop new preset, title it what you want and save it.

    I do wonder so happen to be doing some review/revision to this topic - I wonder if you create a video about archival - and what's your way to save photos - and how to be able to find photos as quickly as possible instead of trying to waste time looking through each folder

    I found c1 much more better for fuji files, but I also experienced some tech issues on my pretty old laptop. Aside from tech issues, when c1 correcting distortion it could crop original resolution anywhere from 50 to 300 pixels in my experience.
