As this is a Grim Dawn beginner's build guide it means that there are no pre-existing gear requirements to start it. You can farm it all as you go.
For end-game try to reach the following stat thresholds:
- 15000 + health
- 2700 Defensive & Offensive Ability (with reliable buffs up)
- 2000 armor - however, I only have 1550 - getting the rest might be hard.
- All resistances at 80 or above, except stun and physical resistance.
To scale the damage of your build get:
- Flat fire damage
- Increased % Fire Damage
- Increased % Elemental Damage
- % Attack Speed
Also, look out for the "of Kings" and the "of Insight" suffix rolls on your non-specific rare gear.
These suffixes each provide a powerful passive trigger that greatly increases damage and more.

@@ericdrake5190 PoE is much faster paced and an actual economy. You'll need a lot of patience for Grim Dawn because it is a lot to learn before you can make builds on your own. It's definitely a fun single player ARPG and a good diversion when a PoE league isn't interesting anymore.

this guide is really good, most of the videos of grim dawn failed to explain why you should put a certain number of skill point in a certain skill, but you explained it really well. its a really helpful guide especially for beginners.! keep up the good work
Great guide Lifting. Love that you did a detailed break down of not just the gear but the actual skill leveling order and the explanation on the Devotion points was great! . I have seen a lot of guides that never do that and just assume that the reader is max level with awesome gear. I was looking at a Eye of Reckoning build earlier today but I think I will use yours. Edit: Been playing the Eye of Reckoning build (awesome BTW). You recommended getting the Barthollem's Gavel if you need a weapon. I think that weapon can only be farmed if you side with Death's Vigil. The weapon drops from Archon Barthollem as his monster infrequent according too grimtools.

I replayed Grim Dawn since like a year break, I had 2 85 characters with my own build Ive tried but got stuck both times somewhere in ultimate. Started this one now, I am currently lvl 81 and going towards ultimate, already did aspirant crucible to 170 and challenger to 130 so works pretty nice, good guide
Can we farm these gears's lower versions (like rare etc.) in the same areas, in elite or normal mod? Im 50 level right now and wanna make more proper build. Thanks for any answer :)
Ok guys! Total noob here that has over 2 days played with this build. I just started it sometime this December, and I wanted to give my feedback so far.

I do not have all of the gear pieces yet, and am just now able to clear SoT at level 94 on Ultimate with the gear I have.
I have died over 170 times learning this build and the game, and honestly, I probably started Ultimate a bit early (somewhere around level 65). My instinct was to rush to Ultimate for the higher level gear, and I did not want to burn through Skeleton Keys, as they are fairly hard to find and craft early on.
Overall, I have enjoyed this build, but it has required a lot of luck to get it this far and a ton of kiting, and only really feels like it has come into itself after getting level 94 and equipping Mythical Infernal Brimstone (maybe better early on with the other two weapons mentioned). Solael's pants cannot go without mention because the additional 3% life leech is a huge boost.
This is definitely not a face tank build right out of the box, and a big problem I faced early on in Ultimate, was that I was not using potions or really focusing much on my resistances (you can still see I am working on some of them). I just learned about the reputation augments for items, and intend to boost my resistances using those sometime after this post.
At first I was very disappointed with the build and contemplated giving up several times over the course of my 170 deaths, however I finally realized that the most important thing that I could do was to keep grinding and farming as much content as I could. This meant farming early dungeons on repeat for both XP, components, and legendary items (finally paid off!). Now that I am able to clear SoT, I still have more than half of the content to finish (both expacs), and at 100 I will begin farming the Crucible, as well.
What I have come to learn not just from this build, but from the game itself, is that it is all about grinding and pushing your character to the limits with potions and resistance components. Farming in Elite would have also afforded me better gear options, which would have likely made the ride to 94 that much easier.
Now that the character feels more stable and I better understand boss mechanics and dodging, this will be my farm character for the next build I create, which I have a ton of legionaries to draw from after playing this guy.
I will continue to max out this build as suggested by Lifting to see how far I can take it before moving on to my next build, and after pushing through to SoT Ultimate clears, I am happy that I started with this build, as it will take me to the next level of play.
Don't forget that your mileage may vary depending on your skill level, so take this post with a grain of salt.

Edit: I forgot to mention a couple of things. 1.) Make sure you choose the correct faction if you are going to use the gavel while you are farming Brimstone. 2.) Don't be afraid to use Nullification offensively! It can be super powerful debuffing your enemies. 3.) Be sure to rotate around your enemies, to avoid cones and single target projectiles.

I went kinda overboard and managed to pump even more damage by dual wielding Mythical Cortosian Invoker by using Blademaster's Talisman relic... yes, both weapons add damage to EoR. Iskandra's set is great overall for elemental damage and with elemental augments from malmouth my dps sits around 300-400k, not to mention the damage done by procs and empyrion bois summons... it's so ridiculous I stopped playing it and went back to Elemental/Aether Ray Spellbinder, feels less cheesy

To get the Barthollems Gavel from Archon Barthollem you have to chose Order of Death's Vigil Faction but the inernet says me thats kymons are the better opinion for fire melee builds. pls help

started playing this. got 60ish and its just really annoying and clunky imo. great guide but the skill its self gets locked on some bosses. even though i have soulfire it still doesn't pass through most enemy's.

Why spend all those points to get to reckless power instead of grabbing divine mandate in the other tree when its so close to being maxed out? using 25 extra points has got to be better spent somewhere else in the tree, improving bubble or some of the other buffs?
I'd like to note that if you don't side when Death's Vigil you can not farm for Barthollem's Gavel the mob only spawns as part of Death's Vigils quest chain. I was very sad to find this out, it's a great stepping stone to the Solael axe which unfortunately requires level 84!?!?!?!

Does GD has something similar to Winter Orb? :) Maybe to Arc or Soulrend?
I mean, some pretty relaxing and strong gameplay, that would allow you to clear areas fast (not sure if it's needed here) and good bossing potential.
It doesn't really have any autotargeting skills to be honest. You could use storm totem in the shaman mastery in either lightning or vitality. Allows you to drop some totems and keep moving (and generally stay out of range of bosses). Can be pretty flexible with what else you combine it with. Another strong option which no one has really found yet is Word of Pain (inquisitor). Its a curse style spell that can do a lot of DoT by itself if you gear it right (all stuff you can find/farm easy). You just pretty much run around making sure everything has the curse on it and it all melts pretty quickly. I can give you further details on that one if ya want.
Or you could just go a ravenous earth (necro skill) build. Powerful AoE that you just drop somewhere and let it melt things. Think you could find plenty of guides for this on utube or the GD forums.
I don't think there is anything similar to that Silver, but if you like summoners then check that out. They can be played very actively, but also rather relaxed when wanting to =)

I am slightly confused. At the 4:47 mark the tooltip shows (and he mentions) Iskandras giving physical dmg to elemental conversion but I do not see that in game. Was it nerfed or removed I presume? Is it still worth maxing without the added 25% bonus conversion?
its worth maxing still, you need insane energy regen in order to sustain the eye of reckoning. its not as good obviously, but the part that is critical for the build (energy regen) is still there.

Hey Lifting, does your link provides a FULL version of GD or without DLCs? I can't get any info about it on the site.
In the Steam it's always Base game + several separate DLCs.
Coz now, at the HB, the undiscounted price (crossed out) is equal to the "full game" link from the official GD site or base game + all possible DLCs at Steam.
But description at the HB equals to the base game at Steam: only 6 classes etc. And no any word about "full game" or DLCs included. This confuses me.

pretty sure because of the scaling with attack speed, the skill itself is better for eye of reckoning i think

nice video man! i'm doing a similar build, but with oathkeeper + demo...i was thinking in picking up the solael's witchblade debuff but i wasn't sure if will combo with the guardians debuff...
Look up the Grim Dawn Resistance Reduction Cheat Sheet. It shows the three types of RR and how they stack (or don't) and how they combine together to arrive at total RR. You should be able to figure out if the two abilities will combo from there.
Also, yeah, they do stack. :)
How viable is this build now a days?
Made super tank shieldbreaker fire strike with 1300 hp regen before devotion / gear procs , with everything up and running goes up to immortal status I cannot be killed , also thank to 20% dodge20 evasion melee attacks and 30% chance to evade projectiles and a nice 190energy regen + 6 auras and 98% crit chance, equipped my Mythical Brimstone( LV 97 so not even maxed out) and switched to Spin to win 🏆 saving 10 points from fire strike and used them to buff the Boys Empyrion Boys btw) .
Pooping on Lokar Ultimate by standing still and eventually spin to win .
Still working on fixing pierce red but there nothing to get the sweet spot 87max res ....
I can probably try arcanist instead of demolitionist.....but I love my full physical to fire to lighting conversion ..
The only downside is gear ..if you don't get specific items my build suck from LV 50 .
Ur build LNB IS amazing in the concept and playability, but I don't know if is crucible 170 yet we need to Lift alot like nerds to combine all the raw power ur build is capable of ...on paper .

As a player who always wished there was decent GD guides, this is definitely amazing. If I ever give the game a shot again, I'm following this.

Would just like to post here should there be any late comers this build. As lifting mentioned, his builds are for newcomers and without any crazy end game gear. I would concur with that statement as I hit a progress wall at about level 75`ish on elite Ashes of Malmouth.
I then went on to farm for some gear and then i found a good weapon/shield and decided to transition to phy/fire board and sword. it was not pretty but i managed to scrapped through Elite AoM at level 90. Going on Ultimate is another level altogether as my DPS is not near decent to bring the bosses down. So i dial back on progression and went to farming gears again on routes like Twin Falls / Rotting Croplands / Warden Laboratory. i cleared Ult at level 100 after dying like 70 times in total. This is only my 3rd character and my first to hit level 100!.
It is only after this that i start to look into rare gear sets as my RNG with the cyclone legendaries are none tbh, only a warborn shoulder dropped so far. after like 30+ transmutation, i got a stonefather set going and then I redo my gears and an Atherial Nemesis MI drop gave me a +3 Eye of Reckoning skill points. Currently im sitting at 93k DPS at base with perm buffs on. with fulls buff and procs, i can hit around 145k DPS which is ok`ish for end game item farming. link as below: www.grimtools.com/calc/62ayM1E2 (p.s - im not even close to end game gears)
TLDR: A fun build but can be frustrating at times as the cyclone action can be a bit janky at times. Prepare to farm for gears at certain stages, but once your DPS is up there, its really spin to win.
for those who used to play POE, here is what you will find better in GD compared to POE:
1- loot Drop (rare / etc) is actually useful and rewarding in this game, the game also drops good items even higher than your level, so it keeps you occupied with exiting items you collect. Poe however it takes so long until you get good loot.. and many unique items not suitable to your build or "Very specific".. also less garbage item drop here..plus integrated loot drop filter system you can customize in-game..
2- Many argue that POE skill system is very deep, but honestly i find this game similar, if not even better.. this has all exciting skills you might find interesting in poe.. but deliver it in more straight way rather than linking 5 gems to support it .. it's true that skills might not look as cool as poe.. but still as fun as poe.. there is more tactical feel to it.. and you can actually utilize different moves/skills along your main skill.
3- level design/maps are more fun compared to poe, there is more verticality in levels, bridges and all kind of different stuff.. compared to poe levels which looks as if auto-generated without much soul in it.. graphically GD isn't great looking but good enough..

I just finished the whole game with this build. Normal + veteran difficulty level. All dungeons passed with the Forgoten Gods expansion, the death counter stopped at 8. :D
but how do i spent the points for attributes? all physique?
Yeah all Physique as the stats from arcanist give enough spirit for rings and amulets

Playing on Veteran currently, wondering if I should choose Death's Vigil or the Chosen... seems' Death's vigil would be better because of the fire/physical augments, but as I am new to the game thought I would ask a professional first!! THanks for any input.

Ghoulish Hunger always triggers before Turtle Shell, so you have a generous margin to work with in addition to Giant's Blood and of course Mirror.
I also take Crown, and I threw in Elemental Seeker, but I don't remember what else I had considered.
Great guide LNB. I hope everything is going ok. Not heard anything out of you since the start of Metamorph league. I know I am late to the party but I just picked up the expansion and started playing a little before Delirium comes. I been following this guide as a hardcore player and I am lvl 56 atm. The hardest content I have done is probably the bastion of chaos rift and had a couple of close calls in there but so far so good. My Iskandra's doesn't give the 25% conversion. It may have been changed or does an item affect it? I assume this doesn't matter much though. I will maybe post again when I die and what kills me.

Hey I'm loving this build so far, but I have hit a bit of a stump in the build... Trying to respect owl into chariots of the dead but I can't respec due to "constellation dependencies." Do you know or anybody know how I can work around this? Thanks in advance.
It's really, REALLY fun and very fast to clear most contents.
It seemingly only good for clear / AoE, but surprisingly, the single target are really good, too.
I'm at level 41 and haven't died, but there's quite a few close call because I couldn't see the Aether AoE aura thing underneath me lol.

will you be making more builds in the future? I know this is 2019 but still jsut curious, im playing this build right now and its pretty damn good. If you are, could you make a necromancer tanky build?
I guess all the farming has to be done on the hardest difficulty (does it also have to be at level 100?) as I've farmed for that Barthollem's Gavel a ton and never got it. But that was at level 75 on medium. Did buy the other but have to wait til level 84.
I wish you still played this game. Your tutorials and builds are always concise and thorough with a side of light humor when explaining for a laid back feel. Still subbed though.
I just get the forgotten gods and can't wait for Arcanist / Oathkeeper combo after i saw it in your video before 6 months. Can you tell me what Addons you are using .
I have made all sorts of combos and this one is too much like PoE's Cyclone build even down to how much dps it has and not even Ultimate gave me issues except on certain bosses and that is because I still lack some gear.

idk if your guide is just so good or this build is so op but this is my 3rd char and i died 3 times just bcoz i was skilling devotion points with enemies aroud :D i m lvl 60 clearing all skeleton keys areas and i m still using explorers helm and boots for exp and total speed and also crafted belt for exp with my blademaster 66 i died 70+ times and i have more dps more hp lifesteal etc idk what i m doing wrong with him :D
I guess I am late to this party, but I wanted to thank you for this amazing build. It was the first one I tried and I eventually made a goal of bringing it to beat defeat SR 75/76 (on patch 1.7.1). The cyclone set + lightning to fire damage conversion to make use of the many fire resistance debuffs and arcanist support paid off. Here is link ( www.grimtools.com/calc/eVLOjM62 ). The dps is around 315K.
Nerd, what is the mod you use that allows you to add and subtract devotion and skill points with your mouse clicks without having to go to the spirit guide?
Is there no text version? Especially since this is geared towards beginners, its kind of a pain in the ass to keep referring to a video that plays
The Blazerush weapon is also very nice for that build and craftable as long as you are not lucky to get the Infernal Brimstone

In the devotion tree is it viable to get the devotion to the bottom left which is a scepter or sword which increases massive amounts of fire damage ??

oh nevermind it really depended on what faction u decide to ally with, U have to choose the "Order of Death's Vigil" or else the unique boss monster wont spawn in Fort Ikon, am I right?
I know it probably does not make a difference, and maybe you said it in the video and missed it if you did, but who is your preference for Blacksmith for this build as far as the extra stat rolls go?
So eye of reckoning is strong and can do most content? I keep reading comments where people say it sucks and does terrible damage, seems powerful here though...
I'm trying to pre build this on grimtools. Can't quite figure out how u get the erectoes to match the behemoth CD time. Also will the Murmur's kiss be a good belt to go for or would you recommend something else?

Are you sure linking Mirror of Ereoctes with Giant's Blood is a good idea ? Mirror lasts only for 3 sec and Giant's blood only has 15% chance to activate when hit during this short period.
It's not a bad bet when surrounded by plenty of trash who constantly hit you, but not so much against a single heavy hitting target like a boss. Do you have another suggestion for Giant's Blood ?

Had several builds which crapped out already at warden because i suck at this type of games. But this one is fun to play and actually works pretty good for an absolute ARPG beginner, thanks for that!
