    I join Melton in a few months- still in school and have to be a part time student because I still need to work, wish it were sooner! Regardless, I’m happy to have found your channel! I hope I get to travel out West like this! Love Arizona. Pretty neat places to see and some nice drives hard work, but from what I’ve seen, a great company that takes care of its people and isn’t afraid to get new drivers out there earning and moving the wheels! That’s what its about! Cheers man 😊

    I basically live in Morenci hauling machinery and necessities from Phoenix, Tucson to Morenci, Safford, Green Valley, Tyrone, Bagdad, Chino and all the other mines. It is my best little secret. As an owner op, pulling 7 grand a week into my bank account is awesome.

    Invest in some movers blankets to help protect your tarps.

    Nice job. I like that area. I've picked up there, as well as another mining area near Clifton AZ.

      Nice! Yeah it’s a cool place to see. It’s definitely hotter than I’d prefer in the summer, but that’s just how Arizona is

    I must have missed it when you padded your edges and corners. I pulled that load and I almost guarantee you had tatters for tarps at the end if you did not.

      Yeah I forgot to include that part in the video lol. But there was one corner that I missed and that copper absolutely shreds right through your tarps

    Thinking about coming to Melton, do they let you go home right after training to get things for your truck or do you have to go right out to get a load?

    • @ianelbert
      @ianelbert  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They’ll route you home as soon as possible. I got my truck, and they got me home within a week. I believe it was my second load they sent me with

    Melton giving Freightliner now? Since when? I'm about to start with Melton here soon moving from heavy haul to flatbed.

    • @ianelbert
      @ianelbert  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, we have Freightliner, Kenworth, and Peterbilt. Not sure how long they’ve been using Freightliner though, I’ve only been here a few months

    Can I ask you how long is that flat bed? It looks too long than normal. Then is it allowed to make the two back axles that far from each other? Hope you ll answer. Thanks 4 the video

    • @ianelbert
      @ianelbert  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s 53 feet long. The step decks at melton have sliding axles, but not the regular flatbed trailers

    Melton doesn't have a training program do they? I've been looking at TMC, Maverick and Swift flatbed

    • @ianelbert
      @ianelbert  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They don’t have a CDL training program, but if you get hired here they’ll pay you back for your school up to a certain amount. I’m not sure how much it is they cover but it is enough to recoup the cost of almost any CDL program.

    Any tips for 45 backing in flatbed?

    • @ianelbert
      @ianelbert  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m far from being an expert, but my best tips would be: 1- it’s all about the set up, figure out a setup that works best for you and stick with it. Then 2- don’t be afraid to do pull ups and adjust your angle. And when you do pull up, go far enough forward that you can set up a straight back (when possible).

    Just curious about the dot driving clock. Does it stop when your waiting to be loaded or is that part of the drive time?

    • @ianelbert
      @ianelbert  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to manually change it, but you can go off duty when waiting to be loaded

  • @truckingwithangel2335

    How often do you use your chains? I’ve been working in flatbed in the North East Regional and have yet to touch chains, we seem to only get strap loads. I’m thinking of switching to Melton.

    • @ianelbert
      @ianelbert  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’d say maybe 30% of the loads are chained. We haul coils and equipment like forklifts, bobcats, industrial A/C units etc.. pretty often and those all require chains

    • @truckingwithangel2335
      @truckingwithangel2335 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @ianelbert
      @ianelbert  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@truckingwithangel2335 I’ve hauled all the above on a regular flatbed, but I’ve also seen it done on step decks. If it was something really tall then I’d imagine we would only use the step deck though

      I think it took about 5 days for me. For some people it was longer, and for some it was shorter.
