No, I am INFJ and a social anthropologist to boot, and for years I have this feeling it's a perfect combination for a spy. Except maybe for my distrust in governmental bodies in general 😅

You are sort of right. In an observational, interrogatory and or analytical intelligence role an INFJ does extremely well. Being an active field officer or under cover operative, especially penetrating or infiltrating a target or group, is uncomfortable as this requires constant fakery and deception.

Great video. I "slammed the door" with my parents and joined the navy in 1950. Put in 20 years and got out at age 37. I knew nothing about Myers Briggs, but when I did, found out I was an INFJ. Now I realize why I do what I do and how I tick. To put it mildly, it was a revelation and validated all the things I did and my thought processes over the years.
Upon honourable discharge from the navy,(1967) I went to northern Canada (I'm Canadian) and worked with our First Nation people in community activism. I got my commercial pilot license and flew all over the western Arctic helping Native people get their s**t together. Also fell in with the local hippies and basically thought I'd died and gone to heaven. Met some outstanding people and fell in love many times. I even got paid for the work I was doing.
Long story short, now 89 years old and living the laid back life on the Canadian prairies. Still do lots of community volunteer work as well. Onward and upward is my motto. Or, "Don't let the bastards grind you down." Peace everyone.

I think the problem for an INFJ teacher would be handling discipline. That’s why I would have chosen lecturer because students have chosen to be there. Your point are good though.
The assumption that we prefer human contact in jobs may not always work out as we hate conflict and we expect others to behave as honestly and morally as us, which they often don’t. This is why I prefer working alone most of the time.

    • @glimmeringsea5105
      @glimmeringsea5105 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

On point for me. I tried teaching and the discipline component as well as dealing with parents and administration were not for me at all. That was too much contact and a headache.

As an INFJ and an instructor, whenever I've detected students who are less motivated and less moral, I've engaged in quiet quitting. This isn't a suggestion, it's a statement of struggle, particularly when the described student demographic persists.

I would go ahead and get the Ph.D. because these days classrooms are battlefields. I had to leave classroom teaching because these days teachers are more prison keepers. You can't teach if you can't get control. I had some of the worst behaved classrooms on the hallway. I would say lecturer may be a better fit. Even when you do get into a debate it is on a higher thinking level. Yet, I will still teach. There are other ways to do that and I am exploring them.

10:59 As a teacher with 23 years of experience, I fully subscribe to these comments. It is lovely getting appreciation from students and seeing materials that you created benefit them.
But boy, if they get arrogant or rebellious, it's super draining... I can see myself doing little else though, as I am a natural teacher (from a family line of teachers as well).
Ren described the difficulties of an academic career (which I used to dream of) very well, I would also dislike the politicking.
Also, the tenure I have as a teacher is a huge plus. Job security is a not to be underestimated benefit. On the other hand it is also a ’golden cage’ that pretty much keeps you stuck... My dream image is being a teacher somewhere in the 1950s, at school in some quiet village, where you were respected in your role as a teacher...
Well, let's try make the best of things as they are...😊 10:59

As an INFJ, i totally agree with your suggestions and those in the comments section. As an INFJ, i have discovered the amazing satisfaction of petsitting and I don't mean ordinary petsitting. In my roster, i had a mix of 12 to 13 dogs, big and small! Including my own one boy! I started petsitting so that I could spend time with my dog Tenzin. What developed (sort of organically) was this set of guest dogs who would come and go and we became a whole group of friends who enjoyed our walks together, eat together and best of all, relax together! As an INFJ, i was on my toes but emotionally it was SO rewarding as dogs love and appreciate sincerity, and i was happy to be myself, not be misunderstood, judged, and more importantly appreciated. In return, I appreciated the love and sincerity of all my furry guests and always inspired by their infinite capacity of enjoying each moment!!!
The human owners of my guests would not think of boarding them elsewhere and that is how i felt even more validated!!!

Thank you for giving a secondary mention to nurse. Nearly every video mentions Teacher, Therapists/Psychologists, and Social Worker without realizing that bedside nursing is the intersection of these 3 professions. As an INFJ critical care RN who precepts (teaches) all the time, I can assure you that this is a good fit, as it involves compassion, social interaction, sharing your passion, deep knowledge, meticulous organization, and creativity within confined circumstances. Thanks for the video!

I was an online teacher for Chinese students for 3 years, and it was the best job I ever had. I had to look for new work just recently due to new Chinese governmental laws.... so i quickly got a call center job.
It honestly is crushing my soul.
I would love to be a librarian in an elementary school. If only I could find that somehow.
Of course, I've always wanted to be a writer. All of my teachers in school all encouraged me to continue writing.. but life got in my way. I still do poetry, but rarely share it, because it's exposing my soul.

I’m a cardiac RN who works from home now. This is the best as I get to use my creativity to help solve different health problems daily, but I get to have the benefit of having some distance from people in person. I talk to patients over the phone and I work from home so I have lots of independence and autonomy. We cannot stand being micromanaged. The medical feild keeps me intrigued and I can use my empathy to be there with each individual person I speak to. Lots of times we talk on deeper levels than just their cardiac issues. I thought about switching to counseling, but I know I’d get burn-out. There is some minutiae of charting, care plans and emails…but it’s not overwhelming.

Great picks! Social Worker would be difficult for me. I find immense suffering of others to be very hard on my psyche. There is a program in the states called CASA, it's an advocacy position( actually it's non-paid) in the court system for young children and teens. I would find myself wanting to adopt all the kids though. Nursing is also a great choice. I did this for many years. It will definitely satisfy your Fe's need to be " the advocate/ helper" type.

    • @Bayoubebe
      @Bayoubebe 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

I am a nurse for 20 yrs and I did join CASA once upon a time and I felt the same as you. I couldn’t do it. When one of my CASA kids ended up in jail later, I felt a sense of guilt and failure. It’s too much for most of us. It takes some time for us to get over “not being able to save the world.”

Interesting list. I am just wondering whether most of these professions will actually stimulate our intuition in the long term. We also tend to really join the dots quickly and then tend to get bored. I found myself very effective in management and consulting especially where one is dealing with complex social issues. I also think INFJs could be great spiritual teachers. I think our jobs need to transcend the normal and needs to have societal impact at a systemic level to have long term meaning for us.

Those were all spot on! I am a former social worker. I went into it with such open hearted ideals, but the crushing paperwork and ineffectual social systems broke me. I did clerical work in a school, which I really enjoyed and now I do clerical work for a real estate team. It's less social than at the school, I'm really missing that element. But real estate is fascinating and I like my new ENTJ boss. There's a great deal of psychology in real estate, much more than people realize.

I found the role of hostage and suicide negotiator EXTREMELY fulfilling and satisfying. Thank goodness you didn't mention lawyer or advocate. In order to succeed as such you have to win which means your opponent has to lose. In order to to this you have to discredit, destroy, your opponent and his witnesses' credibility, attack them psychologically. Given INFJ's intuitive ability to "read" people INFJ's can be extremely good at this. But you reach a point of saturation and personal reckoning: when you realize you're abusing a gift and literally selling your soul, destroying people for professional reputation purposes, status and money. Judge or magistrate I believe an INFJ would do very well.

I think nursing commands heavy use of sensing which is not the strong suit of many INFJs. Also all the strict procedures and protocols...I am always critiziced for not doing things the same way twice hahah I think INFJs as paediatrics or psychiatrist, neurologist etc would would be more suitable. But I think any job where there is room for creativity, human interaction (to a certain extent, we are introverts at the end of the day) , not very heavy on monotonous work, and the result of which helps people, could be suitable for INFJs.

I think teaching can work but in smaller subdivisions of teaching, like gifted and talent programs or special education--definitely not mainstream teaching. The discipline and disrespect would be too much for INFJS.

    Hi, Ren, thanks for sharing.
Much to say about this, but let’s start with a practical question that is pertinent to the subject.
What made you so generously share such important material with your non- paying subscribers? What was your logic in the first place for restricting such a vital invitation for reflection only to those who paid for it? At one point Christian Church was selling indulgences and this practice has continued through the ages, albeit in the form of selling books or tickets to talks delivered by the new messiahs or gurus or mentors or psychotherapists or influencers (call them what you want) who sell enlightenment, mental health, basically wisdom and HOPE in one form or another. Those who cannot afford it should be content with their lot and buy into one of the ‘free’ mainstream nonsense that gives them the wonderful chance of selling their dignity for degrading pies in the skies. It’s a whole fcking industry. A very lucrative business.

I dont understand why I'm not an infj if my room is a bit messy because that's highly illogical tbh, just because im not anel about bein a neat freak 24/7 doesn't mean im not an infj, honestly I clean it regularly so it's never cluttered for very long

I've completed different personality/vocation tests over the years and most of the recommendations fell with the vocations you mentioned. However, there was always one that fascinated me but I never pursued. Espionage, Spy, whatever you want to call it. Now that I know I'm an INFJ, it makes sense. What do you think?

When I was a kid I wanted to be sort of Hildegarde von Bingen: a nun in a monastery, but a scholar, a musician, and a herbalist, and a councilor in the same time. It makes a lot of sense, doesn't it? 😅
I became a social anthropologist, and during studies, I had a passing thought that we were trained to become spies...

All well and good. But what about when you don't find out you're INFJ til your early 40s, still have student debts and going back to school isn't an option?

I have an incredibly vivid imagination and was once told by a teacher that I could make a living as a fiction writer.
The problem for me is the precarious nature of a writer and the amount of sacrifice you need to make to create a viable work of fiction with the possibility of wasting years of your life with 0 pay off.
