- The Royal Marines have held a service in honour of former comrades who took part in a daring raid in the Second World War.
The Cockleshell Heroes, Commandos who sneaked into the occupied port of Bordeaux in canoes to blow up German ships, were remembered at the Royal Marines Museum.
It was also an occasion for Portsmouth to commemorate this year's 350th anniversary of the Royal Marines.
Only two made it out
Two were handed over to gestapo
By french police
Others drowned and captured
Better to have used free French
Commandos knowledge of area
And language an advantage!
