Dogs are trained to attack the limb closest to them... this is more effective because if the dog busies itself trying to reach the hand raised in the air it will risk more injury to its owner, but if it attacks the closest limb (irl it's usually the lags) it will upset the attacker’s balance and knock him down as they probably will drop the weapon and the pain will be so bad that the attacker will think of nothing but emptying his limb from the dog's mouth
