I love John the Baptist, such a great saint. This precise verse is one I reflected upon very much in these last months.
I'm struggling with my best friend who is walking away from God, is deeply deceived by satan and is choosing what is bad over the good.
And I try to point to Christ as John did, but deep inside there's always this desire that my friend will think (if he'll convert) I 'contributed' to his salvation, and so he'll love me.
I cannot save my friend: Jesus saves. I also think that maybe I should 'suspend' our friendship for a while for his good, but it's so hard for me. I pray God to give me the strength to do what is best for my friend.
Thank you so much for the litany on humility, such a great prayer; it seems written for me.
"From the fear of be forgotten. Deliver me Jesus!"

Today God gave me message about decreasing and him increasing and I was highly confused by that term until I watched this video. That prayer also definitely made me realize things I need to work on and all glory to God for bringing me across this video to help me understand.

I was feeling down a while ago because of a bit of bad news I got, not getting the job I applied for, but after doing this bible study with you Matt, I am reminded that this may be a lesson in humility...so, as always, thank you Matt for making this a weekly session for us! God bless always!

The song I Shall Not Want by Audrey Assad makes me cry everytime I hear it. It basically feels like you are singing the litany of humility and it is so beautiful.

Thanks Matt. I have a 20 minute commute to work in the morning that I just started, so these are perfect. Exactly what I was looking for.

Guidance in the awareness of the subtleties of our spiritual life and psychology is something more of us need help with.

I learnt the Litany of Humility several years ago but didn't say it consistently until about a year ago - and in the recent months I have left it out a lot, so thank you so much for letting God use you to remind me that my soul needs this prayer.
I would say it after Mass or after the rosary especially when commuting. I have found from saying it often - grace to solve and heal from severe relational conflicts and losses, and vengefulness replaced by great serenity and peace and the letting go of things I would rather have in God's hands.
God bless you and your family.

Hi, Matt. Thank you for a wonderful Bible study. As a Protestant who is on a journey of learning about Catholicism, I am greatly moved by the love and awe for sacred Scripture you have. Keep up the good work! Blessings from Malaysia.

Whoa, that litany of humility brought tears to my eyes before it got to the end... Even if I have nothing to show for in the world -gave up my career, social status and media, and my health - I still secretly think I'm somehow better, more righteous, than most people I know... And I thought I was humble.
God help me. Thanks Matt for the great job you do here on YT

Great question at the end! Would I give up my social media "air time" for someone who was a more eloquent speaker in evangelization? The honest answer is no. Here's is why. I've heard it said the first person you encounter when you start to evangelize is yourself. I'm new to sharing my faith on social media so at this time I think the person God is really trying to impact with my efforts is me. Right now stepping back and letting someone else do it would be the easy thing. The move from being a conveyor of HIS word to simply a conveyor of our own word is a pitfall to guard against. Thanks again for another great podcast!

Wow, this was very good. You didn’t say this (you seem to argue the contrary at the end), but you sharing your struggles in humility before God and then analyzing the verse said by John made me wonder, for the first time, if that was something John struggled with too. Maybe, despite all his asceticism, he was making a statement of proclamation that implicitly acknowledges a deep-seated desire for fame and adoration, but he knows that is not appropriate and he is setting it aside before the reality of Christ. I had never seen John that way before and that perspective really shifts things for me.
I appreciated your sharing your struggles because I think the same way too! “Oh, if I tell people I’m praying XYZ then I’m being prideful and trying to get them to think of me as holy. But if I don’t tell them because I don’t want to be prideful, I will then feel proud of my humbleness and self-restraint.” Sigh! I didn’t know anyone else delved like that so I do feel less alone.

I enjoy a good laugh. But to make a pun regarding a martyr just shows a lack of reverence.
