    Tyrion is a perfect example of someone who NEVER forgets the purpose of his interactions with others. Add to this his excellent speaking ability and it’s no surprise that so often he’s able to escape tricky situations.
    With many characters in GoT being complete slaves to their emotions, Tyrion almost always keeps calm and remembers what’s really important.

    About Lommy, you don't say enough for what he's doing!
    1st mistake, when he was yelling for help, he didn't say please.
    2nd mistake. When he was asked, Is something wrong with your leg boy? He answered. LOOK AT IT. He was RUDE!
    instead of saying something like, I got injured with an arrow and I can't walk. And
    3rd mistake, When he was asked, can't you walk? He answered. START CARRY ME.
    HE GAVE A COMMAND! Instead of saying, if you take care of me, I will be in your debt.
    You give FIRST, then you ask!

    Tyrion lannister became my favourite since first season when Jon snow asked him "why do you read so much?" and he replied " a sword needs a whetstone if it is to keep its adge.. So does a mind needs books".
    Often in the show he is shown to study books which I have rarely seen other characters do.
    So since that season I knew this little one is going to last till the end whatever that may be.
    Also he is the only one from the aristocracy to have visited the wall out of sheer curiosity.

Anybody else in similar situations that Tyrion has been whould've been killed a long time ago. Tyrion is like Gold, he doesn't rust. He finds out what other people want and uses that to his advantage. Right or wrong, he knows how to play the GAME OF THRONES.

    I love Tyrion for one reason.
    He proves something I've always said. "Knowledge IS NOT Power... only the APPLICATION of Knowledge is Power."
    Knowledge is merely a tool... and better to have a tool than not... but a Hammer sitting unused on a desk doesn't build a house. You have to APPLY that tool.
    Tyrion applies his constantly gained Knowledge.

    • @sanniez

      Bradley Kell During a brief flirtation with Business Studies, we looked at the Information Society, and a theorist argued for a hierarchy with data at the bottom, then information, then knowledge, and at the top is wisdom. I think Tyrion has this model down pat, because he is never content to assume anything and his drinking allows others who don't know him well enough to underestimate his intellectual and emotional intelligence.

    0:05 You're right. And when you reminded me of this, you reminded me that the reason why he's the most devastating of players is because he doesn't hold power, so he never makes himself a target, instead he convinces the people with power that they want the same thing. He is a persuasive GENIUS. And it's the reason why he's the most interesting character. His "crippled" and "lesser" form make everyone think he has no power, and the fact that he's always in positions where he has none basically makes this a running theme. But because they lower their guard toward him, they lower their guard toward words because they expect violence, he's able to convince them much easier toward his own point. Like you said in another video, their frame is violence, his is a third option, usually "I go, I leave you alone, and you'll get something out of it too".

      MsWrongPerson You're sort of missing the point here. The fact that Tyrion is a Lanister and that so many people know it is only an added bonus. The real trick is knowing what people want an what is within your power to give it to them. Take for instance, you're a bout to get mugged. In that instance, it quite obvious that the mugger wants your money, and could possibly take your life for it. What you should consider is why the person wants that money. It could be for food, drugs, anything. Imagine you don't have that money, and in his volatile state the mugger might harm you or worse out of anger, fear or frustration. Consider what you do have to give him whose loss may or may not be of consequence to you, but will achieve a similar goal for him. ( Like for instance, a snack or something which might not have been planning to eat, and was looking for a way to dispense of).

    It's been 30 years since I finished a 12-year stint as a US Army interrogator/linguist/humint collection, primarily in S Korea. This young man's observations and strategies have been very impressive so far.
    Since it's been so long and as I start to write more fiction, these summarized keys on how to "communicate" with other people are priceless reminders along with maybe a new idea or two. I use communication in quotes because I believe the word encompasses so much more than tone, body language, syntax, and other readily acknowledged nuances. Communication strategies that are portrayed so well here are an underappreciated art/aesthetic. Did I use "aesthetic" right? I don't think so.
    Figuring out what motivates others, applying appropriated incentive in that direction to align with your goals will always be a winning strategy--that doesn't always win. lol, nothing does
    Thanks again, good stuff

    Tywin was the most brilliant player, perhaps only superior to Tyrion by experience, but you should note Olenna Tyrell very much held her own against Tywin, that makes her the remaining major player of intelligence. Tywin was cunning but Olenna is cynical, Tywin fell because he was ruthless towards people who were close enough to put an arrow in him while taking a dump, Olenna isn't that over confident nor cruel, she is a real force to be reckoned with.

      Tyrion revealed he studied his halfwit cousin to discover what his reason was for crushing beetles. Tyrion knew what he wanted, to crush beetles... But he wanted to know why. If you study hodor you can figure out one of his biggest desires is simply to be safe. With his size you can wonder why... And I don't know the real answer and without him having the ability to talk we may never know. But I suspect this is subject to change if bran takes control of him more often in future seasons. He saw that he killed a man already. This type of thing can lead to him feeling more secure and probably lead him to finding a different desire.
      Tyrion would have no interest in hodor most likely. He's just scared and wants to be protected. But if he did decide to find out more about him he'd probably start by asking hodor simple questions and looking at his facial expressions for answers. He'd attempt to find out who hodor has known the longest and then ask them about hodors story

    We forget that Tyrion has grown up in a powerful situation with powerful people with every disadvantage, i.e. that he's been training for this all his life and if he didn't have those skills, he'd already been dead.

    Tyrion would be good at Sales.

    Mindblindness is NOT selfishness. Being egocentric in varying degrees is part of human nature since we are alone in our own minds. And unselfishness is an unproven hypothesis, whereas selfishness in varying forms of seeking profit is what ALL life seeks. Other than that,great video. :)

    7:50 In the books the issue wasn´t the jailer didn´t understand but more how he is distrustful of Tyrion because he was lied before. So he made Tyrion to write down a document saying he owes gold to him, and it worked. Tyrion had his freedom and the jailer has his the gold.
    8:40 Nah, he knew what Bronn´s like. He already had a castle, lands, titles, even a wife (which by the way she was way different compared with the books version except of her intelligence), and knows very well he can´t defeat the Montain. So he wasn´t surprised when Bronn said no to be Tyrion´s champion again, specially when he doesn´t have nothing offer. He is a sellsword after all.

    You should do one on Jack Sparrow. He is always encouraging people to chase their goals so that his goals are met as well, often without them even realising how they are helping him (he uses Will to help him escape jail, steal a ship, and find a crew by convincing him that it's the only way to save Elizabeth, but not only that - he also plans to get 1) Elizabeth's medallion and 2) Will Turner's blood together at the location of the curse AND 3) the pirates who stole his ship, so that he can make a deal with all three to get his ship back, all without any of them knowing that that was his plan all along).

    I’m a cop. When we have new people in training and they get stuck, we tell them to ask “What would you like me to do?” If what they ask is legal and moral, then do it. If it’s not, explain why. That satisfies most people. It either gives them what they want or helps them set realistic expectations

    The kind of reasoning it takes to be a Tyrion is a mix of sociopathic and survivalist.

    • @jamread1849
      @jamread1849 6 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      I dont know about that. He does try to actually follow through on his promises whenever he is able to. You cant just make idle promises without ever coming through with them. Reputation does matter.

    • @DrSamba1
      @DrSamba1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      He is a survivor, but I would not consider Tyrion a sociopath. When season 1 began, he came off as a total debauched drunkard. Later, when you hear his backstory, we find out he was actually a sensitive man who became a cynic after the incident with Jaime, his father, and his first wife.

    • @jonlimbach6200
      @jonlimbach6200 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sociopathic???? Nope

    • @wizardkitty92
      @wizardkitty92 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I have to disagree. If you think Tyrion is a sociopath then you have never met a sociopath in your life. Sociopaths are incredibly manipulative and also charismatic, they have personality traits similar to psychopaths. Tyrion is not a sociopath, more a diplomat. He uses persuasive techniques to convince people.

  • @Sander3101
    @Sander3101 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I would like to point out one flaw in your reasoning on how Tyrion's ways to succes could be used in every day situations: Tyrion has the huge advantage of being in a position (wealth and power) to be able to (almost) always actually meet the other person's demands/needs, while most people IRL do not. In Bronn's example (asking a friend to do something) most people wouldn't be able to capitalize on the options of money or land even if they figured out that's what their friend would want most. So missing in your analysis is that in order for the '3 tools' to actually work, you need a 4th tool: capital. Capital can be everything: political (land), economical (gold), social (friendship), pressure (pride), etc. Without this fourth one, the first three tools wouldn't work.

    • @danix8538
      @danix8538 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Close but I would say that capital is rather restrictive. That 4th tool should be resources(money, connections, stuff etc) or skills that you have which can get them closer to their goal.
