On his first livestream Q&A, Gorran was asked, "Why did you change Ren's guitar strap during "Wade In the Water"?" As he recalls it, it was because the strap on Ren's bass was sort of tied together, and Gorran was afraid it would give way when Ren "started to flail about". 😂 Dunno, 'bout that . . . Gorran is using the strap later, and doing his own "flailing about"! Did you hear Romain's guitar answer Ren's question? And yes, that is Glen. 😊
Gorran can flail about with that strap because it is an acoustic guitar strap. An electric guitar strap has a hole at each end that goes over a strap button. However, the way some acoustic straps are set up, one end has the hole for the button, but the other end just has ties that you tie around the headstock (like shoelaces). That makes both ends very stable. But when you look at how Ren is using it, he just took the adjustable part and slipped it over the horn. That makes it make much more unsafe. That being said, unless Gorran had a second strap, he may have needed that specific one for himself. His acoustic does not appear to have a second strap button, meaning the strap he put on the bass wouldn't work for the acoustic.
