Quite impressive takeoff by the Boeing 747-400 of our national Airline, Air India. Due to maintenance work near the main taxiway of Mumbai Airport, all the aircrafts got a short runway length for takeoff.

Short runway, picked up speed to lift up.... Almost vertical climb, pretty impressive.
I'm pretty sure this video was made so the Indian pilots can flex on us
Vertical? If almost means nowhere close to being vertical then yes that was almost a vertical climb.

The beautiful B-747 is not flying here anymore, just flying as a cargo plane and airliner in foreign countries. I really liked that aircraft!

I worked on these MAGNIFICENT PLANES at Boeing in Seattle Washington and PAINE FIELD in Everett, Wa. It was as rewarding to watch these mighty beasts come in and go out EVERY time I watched. If you think this is HO-HUM .... your missing out on a whole lot in life ... trust me !
I used to work out at LAX and never tired of watching these planes take off and land.

1982, the first trip I remember on the flying Maharaja Air India Boeing 747 from JFK to Mumbai, via Heathrow. The jet was named Ashoka, as in the legendary Mauryan Emperor. I still am in awe when the queen (oops king) of the skies takes off. I still wish to fly on the Boeing 747s. Will see.

B747 is a majestic airplane from the Boeing company.
Looks as though its hardly fast enough and then takes off. Its quite amazing how they get such a large structure off the ground.

its also distorted by a zoom lens making the distance you see seem smaller and the speed of the plane seem slower than it really is.

Recently flew Air India (first time) from Paris to New Delhi and loved it. The bilingual flight attendant was Indian/French and wonderful---I didn't get her name (I should have written a thank you note). She was superb.

747 is the best aircraft...had class..
This was not a shortened runway. You can clearly see that the Air India 747-400 uses the displaced threshold (1:43) for a longer takeoff run, granted it is not the whole of the displaced threshold available but that is only another 100-200 metres. So not a short runway.Also runway 27 is just over 12,000 feet long and one of the longest in India.A fully loaded 747-400 needs 9,700 ft for take off at sea level, this will be longer if the temperature is greater than 25c. So this is not a shortened runway takeoff , but a normal one.
Had the opportunity to fly the magnificent 747 twice out of mumbai (to Hyderabad), incredible experience indeed
A 747-400 has 6 million parts and 171 miles of wiring. If that isn't impressive, you are missing out.

The 400 can carry a total maximum load of 482,000 pounds, with an empty weight of 393,000 pounds. Considering that the engines provide approximately 240,000 pounds of thrust, near empty performance of the jet should be impressive..
unfortunately you are preaching to the non aviation enthusiasts who don't understand that every aircraft isn't always full on takeoff and the thrust power capabilities of such an aircraft.
not entirely. Even aviation enthusiasts like me know. The amount of fuel and load onboard will calculate the takeoff. I assume the fuel or cargo was either low or down to its minimal to allow such a early rotation..
Elevation and temperature also affect performance.

It amazing that something that big can fly, but other than that , an fairly standard take off.
Viewed from behind, it looks so effortless for this ship to take to the skies; though if you were viewing it side-on, you would have seen the plane going lickety-split before lift-off. And, an incoming plane only 45 seconds on her tail.

Wow it flew away...incredible but it happens in every airport
That's SOP for John Wayne Airport in Orange County, CA. USA due to the proximity of all the expensive housing in the area. They hop out at full military power, takeoff at maximum climb then they level off to 80 percent power and continue their climb at a shallower climb rate. Sort of scares you when you first experience it as the reduction in power and climb rate gives you a sense of stalling.
Autopilot engaging does cause jet engines to spool down . And that sound is a lil scary for first timers but for me it's like music.
Full praise to that pilot.
