    When I was in Phitsonolok, we used to go to a little shack at lunchtime for noodles. Nothing fancy, but really good bowl of noodles.

    I still cant believe Tony isnt with us anymore. His is definitely the celebrity death that has affected me the most, it kills me to hear him and think that he'll never make any new content ever again.

    Lotus of Siam is one of Vegas’s best restaurants. I hated the fact that one of my fave restaurants in Vegas was placed on the culinary map by the late Anthony Bourdain 10 years ago, when he revealed this hidden jewel to the masses on his TV show the northern Thai delicacies served at The Lotus. Can’t get a table these days unless you make a reservations days, sometimes weeks, in advance. That garlic prawn dish? They don’t peel the shell off the shrimp; that shell stays attached to the shrimp and also gets breaded so it’s like you’re getting 2 dishes for the price of one - a crispy on the outside but succulent on the inside breaded shrimp, AND an equally tasty shrimp chip which is what that skin essentially becomes. Also try their Crispy Duck Khao Soi (a tasty duck dish served on a bed of noodles in a coconut curry sauce) and the rib eye in the Panang curry sauce

      I agree about difficulty of getting reservations. They now have 3 locations-one of which is currently being renovated. I would eat there whenever I visited Las Vegas in their original location in a semi-seedy strip mall-long before all the celeb foodies started to publicize it.

    Can someone tell me why these videos are only 1, 2 minutes long and always cut mid sentence or mid word with no rhyme or reason? At least play the entire 3, 4 minute segment or scene and cut at a sensible place - kinda like your mom walking into the den and snapping the TV off!

    • @tom4wlt

      Because people that work at CNN are incompetent. This video was posted 9 years ago and in all that time someone must have complained. I even hate to even admit that this is one of their few shows I watched.

    I am a chef and find the attitude by the Asian chef to be very arrogant. If you order this or this you should get a punch in the face. If you shouldnt order it why is it on the menu ? Not everyone has the same tastes.

      Because pad Thai is a tourist food no Thai really enjoy this dish in Thailand and somehow it was invented for foreigners and marketing in tourism in 1900s by the prime minister during that time and it sucks because there a lot of better food than pad thai like krapow , somtum and larb

    • @ZagnutBar

      They do this because their clientele in Vegas is not primarily of the Thai diaspora.
      When you have a large non-Thai customer base that doesn't understand your food and you want to keep a viable business model, you have to include menu items that are familiar and not necessarily the things you are best at cooking
      When Lotus of Siam existed as Renu Nakorn in Norwalk, CA they could keep a primarily northern menu because their customers were the local that community and not tourists.

      @TXtoCAtoTXtoCA 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They aren't in their countries, but to Paula's point, they fall into the Americanized bucket of the same sometimes here. Take the examples of tamales that are made differently in El Salador vs Mexico. That said, Laos is North of Thailand, so the food is very much the same in far North Thailand, so it is on point at Lotus. I live in CA, but have been to LoS at least a dozen times. I don't eat on Vegas Strip. I go to the horrid strip mall with the best food in town, in the state, and as far as I'm concerned the best Thai in the country....then I go have fun under the lights of the city. Highly, highly recommended.

      @@jeffrey-f The culture has changed significantly since they moved locations. Service and respect are basically gone for the average patron. I'm sure the food is still edible but there are multi great options in Vegas (Komol, Ocha, Prommares, Weera, Krung and Le Thai.). Your money is green everywhere and I won't ever return to this establishment.
